Just to clarify for people who take everything we say dead seriously for no reason: We're not reviewers, we play mods and we laugh at the random junk we find funny about them because we enjoy it. That's our content style. There's plenty of people taking the mod seriously and showing it off properly if that's what you're looking for, but we've (almost) never done anything like that, we're just here to goof off.

it's honestly the thing I (and I'm sure a lot of people) watch you for. it's this verys specific type of goofy in-the-moment comedy mixed with pop cultural references (that i personally almost never get) along with references to your other funny wacky moments from other videos. I don't think you guys should be serious, honestly. not that it wouldn't make you less fun, but it just kinda strips you of your personality if that makes sense.

A pal of mine named "Khat" was a VA in this game, He told me that he was given not the *best* direction for the lines he was given. Prime example would be the scene where there's the guy who is wounded and laying on the mattress in a small house near the end of the game. He is wounded and nearly dead yet speaks completely casually, That is because he wasn't actually *told* that he was indeed wounded. He was only told "The guy is with his wife". He later re-did these lines to fit the scenario, but the mod maker(s) didn't use them for whatever reason. So if the Voice acting is a little shoddy, try to remember this.

Привет из России! After your video, I was interested in this mod. This, of course, is not Entropy: Zero 2, but in the absence of anything, it looks quite good. Particularly interested in the atmosphere of the post-Soviet space. That strange flat hat that surprised you at the beginning of the game is called a "тюбетейка" (tyubeteyka / skullcap). And that round "Soviet doll" that you are interested in is called "неваляшка" (nevalyashka / roly-poly / non-falling creature). According to Wikipedia, in different cultures there were many analogues of a similar toy that does not fall. And I was quite surprised that you were so surprised by that upholstered door. Yes, we can often find similar doors. To be honest, I never thought about why they make them like that. Perhaps this is such a style, and perhaps it has a practical meaning, like protection from the cold. I don't know. But not all doors are like this. There are also simple metal ones without any decorations. I would like to translate the textures in Russian for you, but I guess you are not interested. Plus, I did not find any important information in these inscriptions. Mostly instruction posters, shop names, warnings like "High voltage" and other funny names for things. In some places, not Russian, but some other language appeared. Considering that the mod events take place somewhere in the city of Central Asia, then it is probably one of these languages.
@jakedill1304
@jakedill1304 11 ай бұрын
I absolutely think you should translate them for the mod team... like clearly the English actors that spoke English better probably modified their dialogue which is why it's so contrasting.. I'm assuming they just would have taken what was provided for them and and you know turned it into something easier to say.. but.. clearly or perhaps or something or another because this is all over the place.. possibly.. the actors that didn't.. didn't. There's tonal inconsistency all over the place, and it actually kind of works in its favor because it's kind of adorable.. there's definitely a lot of enthusiasm and love that went into this.. and the fact that they did audio localization as well as text localization.. that's really going above and beyond and.. really didn't feel like anything was a half measure or anything like that out of laziness or just what not. Like the whiteboard reminds me of mission improbable.. but in mission improbable it was clearly a joke.. in this case it's kind of like I don't know if changing the actual language on the whiteboard would have actually made it any less funny because it was also combined with the visuals.. But then you had that overlay of the OverWatch weapon which was like genuinely serious and effective.. So I'm just I'm just curious if the original language actually feels like it's very serious.. and it's just the combination of a lack of English familiarity, multiple people working on the same project in isolation, and genuinely not really knowing there was a problem in the first place perhaps? Or maybe even a time crunch who knows.. probably all of the above.. but if it kind of one to ones in its original language.. that's even more mysterious because... Like the tone isn't because of translation on its own.. there's like art presentation that tonally juxtaposes.. Also what do you mean by a doll that doesn't fall? Did the Soviets invent hover technology? Cuz I could see that being a thing... And just only ended up as a side note for a line of toys or something.. I could also see that being Slavic sorcery.. and it's just you know normal.. cuz like.. I don't know... It just would surprise me less than you might think.. this is only half joke and can be converted from that at any point.. like I really genuinely can go either way so.. well maybe not about the hover technology thing.. but certainly about the witchcraft thing LOL dolls are.. they're not natural.

@@jakedill1304 (Answer. Part 1) I did not expect such a detailed answer. Usually it's me who likes to type so much :D Unfortunately, I haven't had time to personally try the mod yet (although I would like to) and therefore, unfortunately, I cannot answer something specific about the text in the game. If I personally see him during the passage, it will probably lead me to the necessary conclusions and assumptions. I don't know how they translated this game into English. As you know, there are many different situations. Was the translation done by another team that collaborates with the developers of the mod, or someone among the developers has some knowledge of English and translates to the best of his ability. Or someone just used Google Translate and some of their knowledge. But if the translator did not clarify the details of the context of some lines, then it is likely that they may not be translated correctly. Although, in my opinion, there are not very many words in Russian that change cardinally from the context of the sentence. Usually the words are self-sufficient and therefore do not need to constantly learn the context, as Japanese translators like to do. Although, perhaps there are other difficulties in understanding for a person who is not familiar with the Russian language. For me, this is commonplace, but for someone, there will probably be many questions. I correctly understood from your text that the translation into English turned out to be strange? If I play in Russian, I won't be able to know this...and I wouldn't understand even if I played in English ":D Except, probably, obvious mistakes, if any. But yes, I agree. I was surprised that the mod team not only translated the game into English, but also voiced it. I think it's very commendable. I am personally aware of how difficult it is to translate my creation into another language, while I originally typed the text focusing on Russian. To answer one of your questions, yes. As in any language (as far as I understand), there are words that have no analogues in another language. That is, the word itself can be explained, but it will not be one word, but a phrase, or perhaps a sentence. I don’t see a problem, but if you need to fit the translation of words into the timing, then this will be a problem, of course. Therefore, sometimes translators replace words with others that are not entirely accurate (and sometimes very different), but plus or minus preserving the context and timing of the spoken word. Damn. I hope I explain correctly. This is a rather long topic. Plus, I'm not a translator. I only describe the information that I learned from real translators and what I felt from my own experience.

They should have added a gunshot to the Foley for that guy that dies in the window.. I think he gets hit with a stun baton, but you can see the cop behind him, and he dies on a trigger as soon as you get within a certain distance.. I almost would have had the trigger go off earlier because by the time it does you can't really see the combine.. but a gunshot sound just in the background environment would have made that scene work a lot better.. it's super creepy though actually if you haven't triggered it and actually see the whole thing.. There's so much good combined with so much combined with so much just unadulterated adorable mess in this and it's weird how much of it is intertwined.. like I can't hate it.. and for everything where you're like wow.. this is garbage.. there's something that's genuinely good, sometimes in the same scene.. and it really benefits from the almost unfiltered enthusiasm.. For everything that breaks the darker tone of the actual events on screen happening, it's always done in this unabashed and almost unaware Glee.. or maybe entirely unaware. If this had like a mean and cynical tone to it.. it really wouldn't work in any way.. it's it's weird too cuz it's like it takes itself seriously, but it doesn't always know what serious is.. but it's also not mad about that.. and maybe it's just far too common where everyone's trying to be an edge Lord.. and it's just annoying as all get out. Both in professional and in the modding scene.. this really isn't that and it's almost got extra credit maybe just for not doing that whether intentional or not. I'd be curious to see the original variants to see if that completely changes maybe.. clearly there was some language barriers going on, but again applauding the effort here to do this full localization thing, even with subs in multiple languages and whatnot.. it's just also kind of weird because you'll have good voice acting, and better dialogue combined with very very... strange voice acting.. and dialogue that clearly feels like it was translated.. in the same conversation. Perhaps the voice actors that clearly don't have a language barrier for English were able to course correct it, which makes sense cuz it would be difficult not to.. but it's like.. maybe maybe one of them should have done the translation LOL.. What again makes me kind of look at this with a endearing smile is how well some of the jokes work in how awkward they are.. like the lady in the stairwell, there's dialogue that doesn't really have any functional purpose, but it's delivered with such a casual tone thatmakes what should have been a light quip somehow funnier and it's absurdity like pulls it back from the brink of being laughed at instead of laughed with.. where you're kind of tossed back and forth between them and every time you're on the with side of the fence, it kind of neutralizes the other side.. Some of the signs and posters and whatnot remind me of that speech to text character from Mission Improbable and his brilliant whiteboard plans.. which were clearly meant to be a joke.. and it's kind of the same style here.. except it doesn't feel like it's meant to be a joke.. but it's still there LOL.. and it's like not just the words but the picture styling and everything LOL.. If anybody that speaks the native language reads this.. ( LOL someone's going to read this..) I'd love to know if the OG language feels more tonally consistent, not just the voice acting but the graffiti and posters and whatnot.. cuz like.. that screen with the OverWatch weapon Auto showing itself is like genuinely polished and legitimately kind of creepy.. almost like from a completely different world as all the other text and dialog. I kind of Wonder though if this would be good if it was tonally consistent, and the dialogue didn't suffer from the translation inconsistencies and whatnot.. and it was like good even let's say for hypothetical sake, rather than tonal and bad.. which is the worst possibility.. I don't know.. like it's not overtly bad in its storytelling.. it's not great or anything to write home about but it's functional.. and it actually does have a logical progression more or less.. which is.. well the dream logic statement is funny because with Half-Life 2 mods there's a ample example of many many dream logic moments.. this actually does provide some sort of pre-planned concept that each event leads to the next event and to its credit, actually lands more in the 'because' rather than 'and then'... It's not the highest ratio, and probably wasn't a sticking point when coming up with the story.. but, as far as like bare Bones skeletal narrative goes.. if you have a positive ratio of because over and then.. you're doing a heck of a lot better than most of the garbage big budget media out there.. I genuinely would not be able to come up with this many words about something that didn't have so many weird juxtaposition.. and I really wouldn't care to if it wasn't so adorable to a point where I feel like I need to defend it but.. when asking myself why I feel like that, with what we're actually seeing and playing.. I don't know that just made it generate an essay.. and I again the weird thing is is I don't feel like I want this to be better.. well I mean I don't really have any expectation on that I didn't know it existed until like a few days ago.. but it's not insultingly bad either where your like wow what a wasted opportunity.. (looking at you half life overcharged). I'm really glad it's getting this particular reaction though, like nobody's been mean or anything like that in the general circle of Half-Life talking heads.. which is kind of an achievement for both anything involving Half-Life and just the internet.. I remember the guy that made the episode 3 mod and it was actually not terrible.. it wasn't good either... But there were far more technical limitations on that project in particular given the time it was worked on and what not.. and as far as the actual playthrough experience it was actually really good.. for a mod.. with some really stellar sections.. a fair amount of bloat but.. because the guy called it episode 3 like people tore him apart like he had just burned down their house and grounded them and took away their Xbox for a week.. I really don't get some people on the internet.. like I know we got to this point.. but.. and maybe this is a feature but I feel like I've managed to avoid by the narrowest margin actually interacting with anybody like that in reality.. despite some close calls.. and you just kind of sitting there like.. it's a free mod for a video game.. y'all are acting like this dude just up and boned your significant other while getting you fired from your job and doing it with violent Glee or something like that.. Y'all are right.. it is genuinely odd this is getting the reaction it is but that makes me very very happy because I don't really think these people are the kind of people that understand what mean is LOL and those are the kind of people that you want to see rewarded for their efforts.. and forgiven for the errors.. of which again it's a free mod LOL. I have no idea why I just wrote all this..

(will update as i watch) 1. the intro is THE worst thing in the mod (the one where you hit your head) 2. this "weird" door is actually very common in contries like Russia (i know it because i live there), and considering that this mod takes place in Kazakhstan I'm pretty sure it makes sense 3. GRRRRR I AM SO ANGRY AT MAHOGANY BECAUSE HE SAID THE HL COMMUNITY DOESN'T LIKE GOOD GAME MECHANICS GRRRRR I AM MAD (well actually everything source is usually janky, but it's a good thing because it's source, ecen still there are a lot of good game mechanics in source games so it's worth to play them (yeah deadwater gaming definitely don't know that already)) 4. damn that guy really looks like somebody not gonna lie 5. karl (wall-e) my beloved 6. is that is that is that a rat though 7. CAN YOU SHOOOT? I THINK YOU KAN 8. as a sitcom person, i can confirm that i use fire exits to have meaningful thoughts instead of escaping fires 9. how is mahogan gonna get out of this one? quit game 10. noooooo they missed ez2 reference, i am so saaaad :(((((( although i don't even know if there was an ez2 reference to begin with 11. VERY POSITIVE REVIEWS 12. YOU KNOW WHEN IT'S HOT AND THEN YOU GET HOT BECAUSE IT'S HOT 13. damn didn't know english had different forms. dead water education 👍👍👍 14. yooooooo hl2 mods multiverse, i knew it was real all along! 15. IT'S SWELTERING TIME (said the swelterer when he was sweltering) 16. it's the meytrik 17. that does kinda look like a fire extinguisher, not even joking 18. I love quirky funny action movie moments with kayano rives 19. me when I see puzzles in source games: THIS IS A CERTIFIED PORTAL MOMENT 20. 36! 36!!!!!! (so sad it's not 3650 though) 21. naaah there's no way a washing machine killed somebody in the entirety of human history, timbles is right, there's definitely no way 22. YOO WE GOT A NEW TIMBLES QUESTION: HOW'S YOUR LIFE! IT'S A SEQUEL WE WANTED, BUT NEVER KNEW DESERVED! 23. YO LEON HL2 EP3!!! THE MULTIVERSE EXPANDS! 24. GOTTA TUCK THEM IN FOR BEDDY BYE TIME 25. thanks! *shoots in body* 26. YOU KHHAAMM TO WROOONG KHAAAMMP WRONG TIME 27. lmao that reaction mahogany had when he saw the girl from beginning 28. if you're wondering what this poster on the wall says, it translates to: don't extinguish electro motors with water. water is a conductor for electricity (but timbles did a good job translating it though) 29. bill' klinton' 30. i love when random people i just met tell me their whole tragic life story. best people in the world 31. did i disconnect him from life? (lmao this is such a good thing to make a joke out of but i'm too stupid to do it) 32. i can't believe you wasted a 357. bullet. *GET OVER* . (best skill issue type of answer i've heard so far) 33. Hey below! Move up! 34. we all know that when you turn off your fan you instantly die of swelter, right guys? 35. *holds a teddy bear* why are you talking to us like we're five? 36. he besy right now 37. i mean, it's such a stereotype that russian people wear a lot of adidas, i guess every russian mod dev desides it's their job to include at least one guy wearing adidas in their mod 38. VERY POSITIVE REVIEWS (again) 39. me when i see what's around me: I'M A GEOGROPHIST 40. this crack looks really important, dunno why would you point an arrow to a useless main puzzle 41."comrades! your vigilance is the safety of the whole commune!" *SNEEZES* 42. WHAT??? A BROOM MADE OUT OF BROOM??? never seen this in my entire life (well actually it's a very common thing in Russia-like countries, it's a broom made out of some very specific sticks that I am unsure of where they come from) 43. that's... kahthinghfhhfhhue and it smoked pig fat 44. bad internet car jumpscare alright, thanks for reading all of that. i love your videos so much, deadwater gaming, plase make more of them guys. and you should totally do more scp gmod videos, i freaking loved those

Привет! To answer the question at 13:10 , why there are so many WW2 weapons: The Great Patriotic War (the german invasion of USSR) is a huge thing in the culture of post-soviet countries. The things soviet people had to suffer under nazi occupation, the grueling and bloody effort our people had to make to finally reach victory, and all the lives lost both on the battlefield and in nazi "death camps", is why this period earned the name of "the sacred war". May 9th, the day of Third Reich's capitulation, is a national holiday, "Victory Day". When Timble exits the underground pass on 22:53, you can see the posters on street lanterns, celebrating the date (with "May" written in kazakh and russian). So, hence the WW2 guns. The heritage of our Victory. P.s. honestly, I really like this mod from what I'm seeing. The level design of a soviet town alone is top notch, no wonder it has so many positive reviews. The translation could be better, but overall, I love it.

I love the middle eastern environments since the series and most other mods haven’t explored that kind of environment yet, but the voice acting is a bit weird. But I love the entire sequence on the assault of the Combine base near the end with the rebels, it actually feels like a realistic assault and it has a nice feel to it. Unlike in HL2 when you storm a strongpoint and all you need to do is take out 3 generators and suddenly it’s under rebel control

So funny enough.. metro cops are immune to the buzzsaw of the manhacks.. you can shoot it at them.. but you can't cut them up.. but everybody else.. like how could you not? As soon as you get the gravity gun manhacks go from annoying to a problematic best friend that you're still happy to see.. then when you're done with them.. shoot them into the last guy standing.. I really don't know why I haven't seen more people do that..? in fact I almost never see people use the gravity gun just to deal with them in general.. it's like I can shoot them for the next 5 minutes.. or I can punch them all into a wall in 5 seconds..
