I love the fact that valve intentionally added metal armor pieces on charger's hip so you can very clearly tell just from the metal clanking sound when they walk that a charger is present (in addition to how loud the footstep is, that is)

you know, given a closer look at their model in game and through that in depth video you made, I am still confused why their shoes make a clank clank sound. Although that makes them a very Iconic combine heavy with their own unique footstep sound, I am still lost on how that works

It's not their boots that clank, it's the metal plates on their hip. If you look at the top left/right of the charger's thigh pads you'll see the blue metal plates.
