Half-Life: Done Enormously Warped - Speedrun in

A new world record speedrun of Half-Life, completed in 6:26.133 by the SourceRuns team, done on Hard difficulty in 1226 segments, utilizing the "save warp" glitch.
On the 4th of May, 2016, only 3 days after the release of the Half-Life 2: Done Quicker speedrun, Rama discovered a new, game-breaking glitch known as "save warping". 3 months later, once the use of this glitch in real-time speedruns became more prominent, shar sought out to begin a new segmented speedrun of Half-Life, with the goal of beating the previous Half-Life world record of 20:41 by abusing the "save warp" glitch. The original time estimate clocked in at just below 20 minutes.
In the project's infancy, the runner, "hlstuff", created some handy tools that simplified the routing process. This made the discovery of potential skips involving the save warp glitch much easier and faster. Shortly following, once the "wrong warp" glitch was discovered by Centaur1um, we quickly learned that the majority of the game could be skipped. Thanks to the hard work from those involved in the routing process, and hlstuff's "Save Warp Tool", we were able to bring the expected time down to a shocking 7 minutes.
Our biggest obstacle was retaining morale and motivation, despite early expectations of how extreme this speedrun turn out. Due to segments requiring near-perfection for warps, or generally being very short, many runners/SourceRuns Members expected this run to be completely unwatchable, possibly even unenjoyable to the viewers. This run was made possible due to the dedication of those few runners who put in the massive amount of work and hours, progressing trivial warping sections of the run, to bring us to this final product. Despite everything, the project went inactive for 7 months once we reached the last map of Lambda Core (This was around June of 2017), which caused us to miss our 2017 deadline as listed on the trailer.
However, despite all difficulties, and almost 2 years later, we have finally managed to finish the project and we are excite to finally show off our hard work!

Technical details:
This run was performed on a clean, unmodded Steam version of Half-Life using the latest build (6153) at the time of commencement (August, 2016) on default settings. This version has a 170% speed cap, meaning that if the player tries to jump with their velocity exceeding 544 ups (units per second), their speed resets back to 353 ups. To avoid the speed cap, we use a scripted ducktapping technique, instead of bunnyhopping with high velocity.
This run heavily abuses the "save warp" glitch. A brief explanation is provided in the intro. For a more detailed explanation video, check out:

This run uses scripting via in-game console. The most common scripts are:

180º turn script (for quick gauss boosting)

Ill try to RE EXPLAIN THIS (Edit) Lets get the basics. In game we have Cordinates, For example 999/999/999 X Y Z. These cordinates determinate the player position in a 3 dimensional Space. Level warp is an Abuse of commands that allow a player to change from a level to another with cordinates taken from somewhere else in the past map. For example 0a1b0 to 0a1b1. To pass from the first level to the next you touch a trigger wich leads to a console command that changes the level. Now in this run They Use the WAIT command, This allows to make all Commands wait until the Wait command is over, Ussualy some ticks, Now if we use a bind that makes a lot of Wait commands you can make a Change level trigger take place for example 10 seconds later. Now the trick of the run is that between the bind command there is a Save file load command that allows us to change to go back to any area you saved. So bassicly they do this. They go through the level and Make a save file at the cordinates 457/297/378. Before they touch the level change trigger they use the bind Whit a LOT of waits and a Saved file load command between those, Now they touch the trigger making a command pop up, But it has to wait till the Wait commands are over to Process. The Save file load command will send you back to the cordinates 457/297/378 and then the wait commands will end will finish and the Level change command takes place. NOTE: When changing levels your Cordinates are the same as before, It means that it will load the level but not move the player from the area. So now the level loaded and now here is the tricky part, if you managed to get your cordinates match with an In bounds area of the next level, You level warped.

C'mon, in the commentary they admit they willingly forfeited a 10 millisecond optimization in the first Xen chapter, because it's more difficult and they were fed up at this point and wanted to get the run going, so they went for a slower but easier technique. So you can still beat them by 10ms if you repeat their feat but also execute the harder, better strategy for Xen.

The funniest thing is that in this timeline, the entire Black Mesa incident actually lasted only 6 and a half minutes, meaning that everyone else involved had to be moving at warp speed just to keep up with Gordon. Not to mention that the Earth literally had to spin faster for the day-night cycles to match up.

I just realized this is exactly like traveling through a wormhole. The x y and z axis exist and there is another axis: "Time". Using godly powers to create savepoints (wormholes) and using time as a dimension and travelling through parralel universes. The position of Gordon in the current universe is different in another, he is using time to travel to the desired universe and changing position to his desire. Very cool.
