Holy shit this was really good. People often forget that Gordon's not some action hero, he's a physicist in a hazard suit surviving through almost impossible odds. The subtle way he started walking quicker towards the doors after hopping over the first exposed wiring, the jump scare in the vents, hell even the very brief one-liner of his name are all super in-character. Excellent job!

Like in Sherlock Holmes Gordon calculates everything in milliseconds foreseeing all the consequences of every action based on deep knowledge in physics and then turns into a cold killing machine eliminating every threat. He is completely silent because he is doing it all the time in his mind and emotional relations enfeeble his intellectual potential.

Very nice! I like how bulky the suit looks and how that's reflected in Gordon's movement. It's realistic. The slender skin-tightness of how the HEV is usually portrayed really doesn't lend itself well to the reality of armor.

I only recently went through the HL games for the first time (finished Episode 2, 2 nights ago now). I found the longer I inhabited the HEV suit, the more and more amazed I became at the world I found myself in. As a lifelong diehard Halo fan, I can say that Half-Life is now easily tied for my favorite sci-fi universe. I've never played a game quite like HL1 in such that it let me PERFECTLY put myself in Gordon's shoes - or, like I said earlier - inhabit the HEV suit. I was Gordon, and Gordon was me, there was no distinction. I'm really not sure how to round this one out, but for as little time as I've spent with this 26 year old franchise - I love Half-Life and you're an absolute legend for allowing us to re-experience Gordon's journey in such a cool way. I absolutely can't wait to see this finished. Keep up the amazing work my friend! 🔥🧡

please, never stop until the end of HL1 at the very least. it's clear you have a passion with every episode of this retelling and it shows in how you portray gordon as a mostly silent protagonist. only one line from this scared, scarred scientist trying to survive. and it's to a random co-worker we can bet he's never met until this moment forced them to cross paths in this hellish moment of Half Life history no thanks to how huge Black Mesa is. it's not even cheesy, it's simply stating the facts, as if using the question the guard asks him about his name, to reassure himself he's still Gordon Freeman. we all know how the story ends. but Gordon isn't *the one Free Man* yet. and it shows in the voicework.

Seriously underrated work dude! Movement is still a bit stiff, but It's actually pretty good for a one-man project (and in the case of Gordon, it can be explained by the HEV Suit making movement a bit harder). One gripe I have is the voice acting, I understand you're alone on this, but maybe try and find some more people for the next episodes? I'm sure at least someone would be kind enough to volunteer. All in all, great work on the episode, can't wait to see how you interpret the rest -λ-
@SoulFreeman3650

He's a good animator, but he completely misunderstands the half-life universe. I would show it in a diametrically opposite way, in principle, I will do so. By the way, the costume should not restrict movement at all, if this were really the case, then Gordon would have been killed long ago. However, it's still interesting to look at it)
@stellarbastard98
@stellarbastard98 3 ай бұрын
@@SoulFreeman3650 *"...he completely misunderstands the Half-Life universe..."* In some instances, I agree, but the series, mainly Half-Life 1, doesn't really have much to go off-of, leaving most things up to how the player (or in this case, the animator) interprets them. Of course, if you have a different interpretation, I ain't taking it away, I'm just saying it doesn't necessarily need to match up with the others. *"...the costume shouldn't restrict movement..."* Now, this is really nitpicky, but in the Hazard Course, Gina tells you, and I quote "Moving around in your H.E.V suit may be slightly disorenting at first". Let's think about it. The suit is mostly metal, which I assume is lined with rubber or plastic on the inside, I don't think it would be the easiest to move around in. Now, sure this is jumping to conclusions, but, again, HL1 leaves a lot to be desired in terms of what we know.
@SoulFreeman3650
@SoulFreeman3650 3 ай бұрын
@@stellarbastard98 At the same time, she says exactly that at the beginning your movements will be constrained, besides, I found a muscle booster in the game files , and so on. The fact that moving around in a suit for the first time will not be awkward does not mean that it will be permanent. You just have to get used to it.
@SoulFreeman3650
@SoulFreeman3650 3 ай бұрын
@@stellarbastard98 Yes, I also confirm that the author understands the universe only partially, but I would just change a lot, down to the atmosphere, queries, and even the anatomy of mutants. My first change would be zombies, because in half life they are practically harmless, and I would make them a real threat, no less dangerous than headcrabs.
@SoulFreeman3650
@SoulFreeman3650 3 ай бұрын
@@stellarbastard98 In fact, I wouldn't rely solely on the game. The Black Mesa disaster is a terrible event, very, very frightening. Contrary to the canon, I would try to add additional creatures, even the same Gonome. To limit ourselves to a modest selection of half-life mutants means, in fact, to show the same thing in every episode. It can get boring, and I'm worried that it might happen. We need an improvisation that will not strongly contradict half-life and will fit perfectly into the plot.

I'm always delighted to see you're still working on stuff. You have a very unique way of portraying the series as very grounded and human, letting Gordon be an actual person going through this shit.

Great job! Some really really nice shots in this... especially in the vents: the cutaway to the gunshot flashes, and the blair-witch feeling of the first person vent crawling Also feels like the animation went up a notch too.

I feel when gordon gets to the we got hoatiles chapter and meets the US Marines. Their probably be evident conflict among the marines who believe they have to follow their orders to kill everyone accept Gordon, and the ones who believe this is wrong.

This is fantastic, like a Hollywood movie. I've loved Half Life since its release, thank you for bringing this experience to us. I'm really looking forward to the next episodes. I'm especially glad that you used some original sounds (e.g. alien slave), I hope the voice of the commandos in We've Got Hostiles will also be the original radio chatter! Thanks!

i like how this video reminds that gordon is a human being just like everyone else. He struggles, fumbles, gets panic, and all he ever wanted is to survive.

Man, am I glad to see you uploadin' another Half Life video onto the new beginnin' of the year. This is fan freakin' tastic! I've watched throughout the video and noticed references, could be more but I will list down the stuff I saw while watchin'. 2:51 Freeman Chronicles Episode 2 Part 1 (The head movement and checkin' over at a place is a nice key detail I've noticed) 3:28 Freeman Chronicles Episode 1 (The frames of Gordon lowerin' his handgun from the front view) 8:41 Freeman Chronicles Episode 2 Part 1 (The whole ceilin' turret scene with Gordon puttin' his hand out to see the turret's mechanism, Gordon runnin' towards the ceilin' turret and under to turn off the switch gives the vibes from the video title mentioned) 11:41 Freeman Chronicles Episode 1 (Givin' the Security Guard his name, a really nice touch, and I highly recommend people search up Freeman Chronicles vids.) Keep this up Animux, you're the only guy keepin' the whole animated series of Half Life for the Half Life community with it bein' one man. It's crazy and I absolutely love the stuff you provide so far.

Amazing, great work. The only giveaway that it isn't 'real' is the eyes. It's always the eyes. But everything else seems so solid and tangible. It's incredible really. I've watched computing and graphics go from simple line drawings to such splendor as this over the decades and it makes me proud to have been able to see it happen. Same with audio recording. I had always wished for a 'recording studio in a box' for years before the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) came along making my life so much easier. This video is fantastic in so many ways to me. Thank you.

The only critique I have is the sounds of the zombies, they are not classical zombies, under the headcrab they are people in pain, but I understand the cinematic choice for this one. Amazing work, so happy to have stumbled upon this! Instantly subbed! Thank you very much for making this!

I propose an idea in the blast pit during the battle over the tentacles using a thermo-burning generator on top of the tentacles, after turning on all the necessary components - oxygen and and some gases or mixtures, Gordon, approaching the final combustion, Gordon approaches the aisle where the tentacles continue to knock where the sound source is, the blast pit 3 track turns on, but then the music stops at the beginning of "whoosh" and the frame rate showing where Gordon is preparing to turn on the main button from the generator faster until the tentacles do not crushed is turned down, and then simultaneously turns on the moment the blast pit 3 music starts after the start of "whoosh" and the frame rate returns back to normal, and an epic scene with music is shown, where Gordon was almost crushed by a tentacle, but he still goes to victory, and when he turns to the control panel, the final sad part of the music of blast pit 3, you know, must be equalized with the beginning of the frame where he burns tentacles, then there is a sound where he makes heart-rending tentacles sounds during burning, and during mute if the guard completely approaches him except the blast pit 3 music itself, which will soon end, while simultaneously showing Gordon's cold-blooded calm angry expression, even if he is at a high temperature distance, and then the camera shows how the tentacles burn down, but now in the following frames from a short distance it is necessary to show behind Gordon's back who is watching from a distance how the tentacles are burned, and at the same time the last touching part of the blast pit 3 track ends at the same time where another camera shows far from the control panel at the bottom of the hole itself after the burning is completed. I propose this idea so that it looks at the same time epic, cool, but at the same time touching, sad and with mistakes where Gordon almost crashes the tentacle in some cases. Thank you if you read it, I hope this idea will be clear to you and you will turn this idea into the best shots that will be remembered by almost the entire KZbin who know about Black Mesa. Black Mesa.
