Thanks John Peel for introducing the world to the awesome sound

I grew up in Birkenhead. I was 15 this year. Been watching them locally already. Used to go to Tranmere Rovers when they used to be regulars. I remember the night I'd set my video recorder to tape them on The Tube on channel 4 , then saw them at the game. When I asked em ' aren't you supposed to be on live telly now?' ...and they replied 'yeah , but we couldn't miss the match lad!' 🤣 Friday nights at Prenton Park back in the day. 😊 God bless you lads and thank you for the music 🙏

They played Stow Hill, Newport in 1986, venue now burned down - God I was stoned, but a great live band and hearing Trumpton Riots live was really something else for those of us who actually grew up watching Trumpton.

Great song, tremendous performance and hilarious lyrics. What gets me though is the utterly deadpan delivery. A unique band.

My once best friend Nigel. I knew all the band well. In fact I have some early recordings from them on my tape. I'll have to find that, then I need to find a tape player! I have a video of me with them at one of their first gigs. I remember we went to see them all six of us. Next time people were turned away because the venue only had a 1000 people capacity. Some say they did the Tube things on purpose saying about Tranmere. Nope that was 100 percent genuine. Thanks for putting this up. I rememember it well.

I've just posted on our 6th form WhatsApp group...about 10 of us covering 1985 to 1988....this was the melody of our 6th form. The song fits perfectly. Darkly comic, a kids programme we all watched in the early 70s...but the tune is the alarm, u2, simple minds, big country....all those 80s bands...

Trumpton was a famous kids TV show and there was heavy riots, workers strikes all over England when this song was made in the 80s. So it’s a kind of comical/footy lads song about a hypothetical riot in Trumpton, all the characters are mentioned in the lyrics

Is it true that they turned down a coveted Glastonbury slot once because Tranmere Rovers FC were playing an important match that day?
@ACCPhil Жыл бұрын
Not quite. They turned down a slot on C4's The Tube which was on a Friday. Tranmere often play on a Friday evening (and the gates are low) so they turned it down.
