The 2005/6 GSXR 1000 was renowned for particularly strong mid range torque. Modern day Sportsbikes have sacrificed some of that mid range torque to run higher revs and subsequently higher potential BHP figures. This means that theoretically newer Sports bikes can have a potentially higher top end but in some cases can take longer to get there/ use that advantage. You may find that the mid range torque (ofDave) is part of the reason why the GSXR 1000 K5/6 beat the Panigale times on the track.
@paulyC2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. It also depends on the track. If the track has a lot of slow/mid speed corners, the mid-range power will pull you out of those corner quicker. If a track has more high speed corners or long straights, the top end power will assist you. The Panigale can't use its power as effectively compared to the GSXR.
@me_ca136 Жыл бұрын
@@paulyCi agree! The track plays a huge part. I think if the panigale would be set up correctly, it can be quicker on this track as well, but in the end there is more to consider than just two bikes at its own.

Euro 5 has entered the chat. The k5 is a lot more free breathing. To get a good match, you'd have to do an aftermarket exhaust and tune. And even then the Catcon is much more restrictive on modern bikes. Also a lot of modern bikes have perma traction control on even with the setting turned off. It's kind of not a fair comparison. I own a k5 gixxer race bike that I run regularly, I’ve been to this track plenty and even have a race there in august. What I can say for this comparison is that the track had a huge part in it. Having lots of horsepower on tap at Buttonwillow won’t get you very far. I can only go full throttle in a few areas and they aren’t really the key areas. I can usually hang with V4’s and R1M’s at that track. As a matter of fact I ran a full second faster on my 08 R6 than on my k5. At tracks like willow springs the k5 does well but can’t hold its own in the straights. I can brake late and enter corners as fast or faster than most modern bikes. I love my k5 but I can tell you how frustrating it is to out-ride your competition and have 1st in the bag only to end up with 2nd because you get smoked in the drag race to the finish line. I love the looks and sound of the Ducati but everyone I know that owns one spends more time messing with it then they do riding it. If you guys ever take that k5 out on track again try a 200/60 rear tire. The extra height of the 60 makes the bike turn so much nicer than the 55.

Greetings, just watched and enjoyed the video. Kudos to Evan, perhaps the most knowledgeable person commenting here. Having owned 2 ninjas , a zx7 from 1995 and zx6r 636 from 03, the particular racetrack used makes a huge difference. My home track is road America, and if you enjoy going really fast this is the track to be on. One lap is just a hair over 4 miles, and there is a total of 3 long straightaways. This would slightly probably favor the Ducati , with it's over 200 b.h.p. So, any SLIGHT advantage the gixer would have in cornering and braking, the Duc would compensate on the straights. But still, I was a bit surprised of the outcome, I wonder what would have happened if they would have thrown a 2010 zx10r in the mix. Thanks to all for sharing, and if you ride be safe. Cheers!!!!

Had a K6 and an '11 busa (w K7 gsxr tail kit and race tech gold suspension) and I commute only, I have a 200/60 on my Busa now and it makes the mid corner stuff insane for the big 1340 bike. I dont track but I do miss the $old K6 for its rowdy top end and ride/balance, but i dont miss the lack of torque in traffic lol. I loved switching between the Busa and the K6 commuting to appreciate what both have to offer. I ended up sticking w Busa w suspension work/quick throttle tube/regear w 200/60 and gsxr tail kit, ecu flashed w Brocks full system, transforms whole vibe of it. K5/6 bikes were the lightest litre bikes from suzuki ever, last years of the catless no smog stuff + full Ti header from factory plus the thin/small frames. Id say a set of Carbon Wheels would really transform the K5. BMW benchmarked only the K5/6 for its 1st ever S1000rr - thats enough proof how good the bikes are.

Problem with this super high end bikes is that only top 1 percent of rider can ride them fast make no mistake the v4 is a fast beast its alot faster technically then the gixer ducati test rider Alessandro valia rode it in valancia with slick and a dre exhuast kit and clock 1:36.84 wsbk bike does around 1:33 and motogp 1:30 so no a gixer is not faster then a v4 far from it but the ducati is hard to ride its power is imense and only the best rider can make use of it there a reason why reasonably skilled rider are riding old fireblade and raping the daylight of uber race machine like ducati and bmw

As a lifelong basher of Suzuki, I have to say that this truly changed my mind about at least the 05 1000. Obviously that bike is super well sorted, not just for it's time, but PERIOD. Alongside the CBR from that era, you have to give the nod to the engineers of the early 2000's superbikes. They cracked a code that apparently you really can't improve on with some electronic fiddly-doo settings. Good old fashioned proper hardware is the ultimate equalizer and sub $5000 bikes beating $28k bikes is a big TSK TSK to the motorcycle manufacturers of the world.

Agreed...loved the flashback. It made me realize that maybe, just maybe my 2006 CBR1000RR isn't so bad after all these years. As Ari's said it best, "unadulterated". There is just something about that pure riding experience, power without all the gadgets that come on new bikes these days. It's like dumbing down the skills required to actually ride these beasts. I am sure they are great, but if I don't know what I am missing then I will just keep on my "classic" sportbikes...thank you. Recently I was thinking about trading my Yamaha MT07 for a Ducati Supersport S. I'm more into nakeds, but I'd like to try something different. I called the best shop in my state and talked to the mechanic to see what he had to say about it. I ride between 800 to 1200 miles per month (highway, trips, city, etc.), my Yamaha is getting up there in the mileage department, but NEVER gave any issue. The mechanic immediately said that was a very bad ideia. He said the Ducati could not handle being used as a "normal bike" like I do with my Yamaha. He told me the amount of different Ducatis they have to fix on a daily basis due to the most absurd problems are insane, so there was a very good chance I could have lots of different issues that would leave me stranded. He told me: "If you want to try something new, just choose another Japanese brand, but leave european brands behind. Try a Z1000 or the new GSXS1000." So that's it... I'd still like to try a Ducati someday, but seems I need to have another bike on the garage to use when the italian certainly breaks down.

Then i bought the (for me it was a) Beast ! Suzuki SV1000s ! Hydraulic clutch and loads of torque grunt ! All the big 4s left me for dead on the autobahn as it only did 140mph but it was how it got there which was so satisfying ! You take your time and be careful! The streets are not race tracks !!! I knew an 18 year old who passed his test and within a month he was dead. Its worth crashing on a dirt bike to learn respect and to feel the energy involved when you lose control ! Now get out there and live your dreams man ! P.s. in the end i managed to crash all of my bikes and am lucky to be alive !
