Hi Liam, just like to say how much I enjoy your videos and was glad I caught you playing at the Colne festival...great stuff! All the best, Paul

Thanks Paul! Colne was manic - two gigs there and then dashed off to Cheshire for another that night! Keep up the practice and hopefully see you at another gig in the future 😎

Great video ; I think a power bender Tuning would be a better choice 👍 What do you think ?

One of my harps is half valved, it just happens to be in 'A'!😂 It's a Susuki Promaster M350. It's the most comfortable harp I own both to the hand and mouth. I still struggle with bending the tougher phosphor bronze reeds but I like it a lot...🤪

Sounded a bit like that Charles Brunson chromatic lick when you bent the 6 blow

Hello Liam, nice video, will be something about chromatic harmonica?

So are these a good option if you can’t overflow (as you get the same notes if I’m not mistaken (on different locations)??? I like the idea of the Will Wilde tuning so you can bend into your notes on the higher holes but I’m wondering if this is a better option
@Learntheharmonica6 ай бұрын
Yes this is an option to avoid having to overblow. But you will still need to get used to the extra bends because they will feel different to the "normal" bends. There's no perfect solution with harmonica, different harps suit different people. Give it a go!

I was wondering about half-valved harps. The way they interact with over blows/draws was one of the main concerns I had(can you still do them?) or are they un-needed due to what the valves offer?. Thanks for the explanation.
@Learntheharmonica2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jawan - you can't overblow/overdraw half-valved harps, but you don't need to because the "missing" notes are all available via bending.

Nice instrument. What do you think about diminished harp? In my opinion it is great for jazz and classic music.
@Learntheharmonica2 жыл бұрын
Oo I've never played one. I'll have to try it sometime!

What is interesting for the diminished tuning is you can get the chromatic scale only using simple bends (you don't need valves) but what is not very great is that you don't get the whole diatonic scale without bending.. Thanks a lot Liam for this video, I am working for a few months on a half valved harmonica, I think it's very great, I only had troubles with hole 7, I thought the problem was me, thanks to you I know it's not only me.. I will think about others special tuning like bebop tuning and circular tuning which allaw to get the chromatic scale with easy bends and valve bends, and avoid the tricky 7 hole valve bend; and unlike the diminished tuning, you get the diatonic scale without bending..

just a suggestion, instead of a diagram showing the note change from red to green, you could also show / include a guitar tuner.

I wasn't aware you could blow bend on the low end of a harp or draw bend on the upper end. Been at this awhile too.

Please. In all your videos that mention some benefit or chance also discuss the trade offs. What will I NOT. I mean all the information is there but with so many choice I need a summary ... or a lot more money and a bigger harmonica case (and sherpa).
