🎯 If I understand right, Michael conceived the music, and Kenny Loggins is the lyricist. But that's just formality. Michael got to a point with the music before he got stuck, & that's when Kenny helped him finish writing the music. Both men collaborated over the phone to write the lyrics "The wise man has the power" or "No wise man has the power..." works either way, musically. Anyone who can't accept that both statements can be true is just narrow minded

Man ‘o man…it’s cool that the music that was just apart of my upbringing is just being discovered by you two! So the Doobies were named just for the reason y’all think. There were 2 versions of the Bros., early Doobies we’re led by Tom Johnson/Pat Simmons (Blackwater, China Grove, Long Train Running, Jesus Is Just Alright..) the second version evolved after Michael McDonald came aboard. A more refined sound (Minute by minute, It keeps you running…). What A Fool Believes won best song at the 1980’s Grammy’s and was their biggest jam! Check ‘em out this summer, they’re still touring!

The lead singer Michael McDonald has collaborated with the best like Ride Like The Wind by Christopher Cross, Ya Mo Be There with James Ingram, Ever Changing Times with Aretha Franklin and On My Own with Patti LaBelle. He has an amazing solo career with I Keep Forgettin which was sampled for Regulate by Warren G and Nate Dogg. Sweet Freedom is another great song too!

Jai was having so much fun. I love it! What A Fool Believes (Lyrics) He came from somewhere back in her long ago The sentimental fool don't see Trying hard to recreate what had yet to be created Once in her life, she musters a smile for his nostalgic tale Never coming near what he wanted to say Only to realize it never really was She had a place in his life He never made her think twice As he rises to her apology Anybody else would surely know He's watching her go But a fool believes he sees The wise man has the power to reason away What seems to be Is always better than nothing And nothing at all keeps sending him Somewhere back in her long ago Where he can still believe there's a place in her life Someday, somewhere, she will return She had a place in his life He never made her think twice As he rises to her apology Anybody else would surely know He's watching her go But a fool believes he sees The wise man has the power to reason away What seems to be (if love can come and love can go, then why can't love return once more?) Is always better than nothing (Who got the power?) There's nothing at all (oh, now) But a fool believes he sees (I believe she's never gone away) The wise man has the power To reason away (to reason away) What seems to be (oh, if love can come and love can go, oh, mama) Is always better than nothing (better than nothing) And nothing at all (oh, I believe)

Old slang "Can you spare a Doobie, Brother?" Michael McDonald is a legend. "Minute By Minute" is another good one with him in it, or "I Keep Forgetting" is a solo one (Regulate sampled it, Warren G and Nate Dogg), OR his duet with Patti LaBelle "On My Own". Have a great day!

It's "NO wise man has the power to reason away what a fool believes." The song is about a guy that runs into a woman from his past who he was always in love with, but never gave him a second thought. He saw the opportunity to rekindle something that never was to begin with. The line "As she rises through her apology, anybody else would surely know......" He's regaling her with past memories and she's just like "I'm really sorry, but I gotta go!" What a fool believes.

In 1970 they teamed up with bass player Dave Shogren and singer, guitarist and songwriter Patrick Simmons. Johnston has said that the Doobie Brothers name can be credited to a friend who thought it served the band's fondness for "doobies" - a slang for marijuana cigarettes.

Michael McDonald was with Steely Dan during the early 70's on Pretzel Logic before he was with the Doobie Brothers. Also had an exceptional solo career with several other artists. Minute by minute, Long Train Running, Taking it to the Streets, Listen to the Music, China Grove, Black Water amongst others. He's done collabs with Boz Skaggs and Donald Fagen. Rob Johnston (who's actually from Visalia, California) was the other lead singer before and after Michael McDonald.
