I'm not gonna trash my scissors guys! Seems to be common concern 😂 It still works well cutting other materials, just not fabric. I've already tried sharpening them but the issue is more that the blades have become quite separated! I've got spare craft scissors to keep me going in the meantime
@sarahbynum973 жыл бұрын
Get them look at by a professional scissor sharpener there should be one or two around your local fashion district they might be able to fix the separation issue too
@crypticlish6717 Жыл бұрын
I know this is a year old but invest in a pair of sewing scissors and then ONLY use them for fabric and thread etc and nothing else. The scissors you sew with should be scissors you only sew with. Tip I picked up from my mom and nan

To sharpen my scissors I cut aluminum foil (typically left over from covering leftovers so I don’t waste new foil) with them and it works like a charm
@halfsoybean3 жыл бұрын
I tried all the hacks I found online but the blades became very separated as I pulled on some staples..after a sharpen it's still good for cutting paper, but not fabrics 😭❤️ thank u tho!!
@sincerelysof3 жыл бұрын
@@halfsoybean you should’ve used pliers to take of the staples!😥
@anindirizky57113 жыл бұрын
Maybe you can start by trying to sharpen your scissors with a glass cup or glass bottle to keep out the trash.

I'm currently in the middle of reupholstering my bed. A staple remover didn't work for me, I'd recommend a tiny screwdriver to loosen the staples and a pair of pliers to pull them out.

Bravo! You did an amazing job. Your sofa is 100 % more beautifull the way you did it. It seams more cosy with that color. The black part is named a dust cover what I learn in an other video. Thank you so much to sharing your work. Again great job 👍♥️🙂

I would recommend getting 'kitchen scissors' as well as replacing the fabric ones, I use my kitchen scissors for everything and it will preserve your fabric shears, keeping them safe from the rough stuff. - They're like $20 at woolies and coles.

I've always been interested in modern furniture restoration processes because I've seen cases where they actually look better than they did when they left the factory, in an aesthetic sense. Sometimes people don't know what they're missing by throwing away furniture that may still be in good shape. I have a Bellini sofa from Manhattan Home Design whose technical characteristics I love, and I'd like to be able to restore it myself when necessary. Thanks for the tutorial!

I'm glad there is measuring and cutting of material in this video, although it is more tracing from the original material, it is still an improvement on the other upholstery videos that don't show measuring or cutting, but only show how they attach the material to the frame.

Tip for the future, or just anyone doing apulstry. If you don't have a staple remover and need to get them out, you can use a flathead screwdriver and any kind of pliers to get them out. At least, it's always worked for me. You could also use a butterknife(if your desprrate and can't get to a store), just make sure i'ts not one you care about and take it slowly because they can bend.
