Try and find some that resemble local baitfish. I use the Sexy Smelt and the one that looks like a Grunion. I also have a completely white one with a hot-pink stripe on the belly...Cherry Berry I think its called. Good luck!

@@donniedarko1345 I have one that looks like a grunion. I heard the Cherry Berry is the best for halibut. Been casting in Del Mar on both sides of the bridge with using swimbaits and Big Gulp so far. thanks!

I only have tried agua hedionda lagoon and guajome lake, only 2 small rock fish on the lagoon.

Everywhere I fished in this video is legal. They expanded the zone where you could walk a few years back. You cant go beyond where I hooked up.

Ponto beach in Carlsbad. The spot he is fishing in the begining is technically illigal. Not sure if it was back then, but it's a wild life preserve now. I just got a ticket for fishing that spot. You can only fish that spot closer to the west, pretty much under the bridge and on towards the ocean. If you go to that spot, don't walk past the green run down fence. Beyond that fence is the preserve

Several years ago, fish and game started allowing people to fish beyond the fence-line. You just can go beyond the sandbar and onto the rocks towards the railroad track.

As of today, no. Game wardens will give you a ticket. I found out the hard way about a week ago.... He said if you fish here you have to stay west of the green fence.
