I used to see some of these large ships when I lived in the high Arctic as once a year we would be delivered our yearly supplies. They couldn’t dock though, they stayed out in the water and boats were used to deliver the containers to shore. I even had a vehicle delivered this way. It was like Christmas Day when the sealift arrived, everyone was so excited.

I worked at DSME in Korea and helped build this boat back in 2010. Nice to see it hit Canada. But this is a baby now.

@@tylermcnally8232 its actually really cool how it works, we use a system similar to sweden, and its actually so effective that if we wanted to we could actually buy trash from neighbouring cities for an extremely low price and use it for energy. Keeps electricity bills low and keeps the city clean.

This vessel is rather " small" to-day so when those ports are only able to handle ships of this size, it also shows their late development when compared with the ports in the Far East!

If it is sensationalized people will be emotionally invested for a week and then forget look at every world crisis They are all still happening but only are reported for a short time until people stop caring. But yea maybe your right some people just get super excited to see a boat with rectangles stacked on it float up stream.

So didn't we raise the bridge (when under construction) so this large boat could pass under it? One day we were going to move this terminal and get rid of the truck traffic downtown. The next month they bought two new billion dollar lifts.

We get 4-6 off those coming each day to Port Of Antwerp, ive seen 8 of those being ofloaded at the same time (more then once) And we aren"t even close to being the biggest port of Europe (in terms of containers that is) North America is seriously lagging behind the rest off the world in terms of port infrastructure

Yep, one of her sister ship in same class also recently visited Shekou and Hong Kong ports. Not as wide as the newer ships.

@@randomboi8218 idk, but at the suez canal theres an image that says thank you on google maps. So maybe something important, they also blacked out the ship on the maps while it was stuck.

I’m pretty sure CMA CGM has dock a vessel in this class in Vancouver a little while ago. It was almost 400 m in length. Suggest checking your facts with the Port Authority.

As we pay more in carbon tax to save the planet, everyone gets excited at the latest consumerism vessel to hit land in Canada. Each containing represents what we cannot or won't do in Canada. Do not complain about off shore junk. Oh, a container ship is like a bus. Various containers get off and on at each port.

And the second another port further south builds the ability to handle these ships; Halifax and it's deep investment in new port facilities get forgotten once again. Same mistakes; decade after decade. At least we are consistent.

Its not cheaper when you add in the cost of channel deepening, larger cranes, and bigger tugs. Which is paid for by us not the shipping companies
