Halina Zimm (née Drexler) was born in Lodz, Poland. In September 1939, the family was forced to move to Zarnow, Poland. Fearing his family would soon be deported, Halina's father acquired a Christian birth certificate that allowed her to survive the war by "hiding in plain sight."
