Learning that some of my ancestors are from this tribe, meeting people, and now seeing this video. I hope I get to visit someday.

The citizens of North Carolina, of all backgrounds are attempting to preserve the indigenous history and fight for natural rights. There’s a whole lot to unpack.❤

“Black” people do your family history by paper genealogy. My family documented free since 1600s. I’m not the exception. We ain’t die we were RECLASSIFIED.

Can anyone guide me to learn more about the Sapponi tribe from the Warrenton/Charlottesville VIRGINIA area? I am sorry to be so ignorant, I have seen Tutelo-Sapponi as well and I am having a tough time finding more information. But my grandfathers spirit is crying to me so much lately and I miss him so much. He was orphaned at age 3 and was Sapponi but never knew more about this as he was put into WWII at age 16 and then had several children a few years after and had to work labor jobs and was treated worse than dirt due to his skin. I have such a strong pull to all of my grandparents people, he is the one I was the closest to and the one I know so very little about. I recently visited the Seneca nation in New York and was so inspired and wish I could know and take pride in his honor. thank you kindly, and I apologize for my ignorance.

The natives from Charlottesville are are likely Sappony, a mixed race tribe of Eastern Cherokees, Saponi, Upper Mataponi, Seneca, even some Lumbees. The Powhatan Confederation consisted of all sorts of Virginian/Eastcoaster.

My family name is Richardson on my moms side. She was not an enrolled member. I’m not sure if her other family members were because she deceased and we aren’t close to her family. How would I determine if I can enroll?

@CHI APAS the "$5 indian" phenomena happened in Oklahoma and wasn't as wide spread as many think. The tribes themselves determine who is and who isn't. What tribe are you enrolled with?
