And still lame compared to the studio recording. The sound quality and clarity is just not there
@thesean319416 күн бұрын
@ still lame? You have never been in a band or played an instrument before have you? I bet you a thousand dollars you couldn’t get on that stage and pull off anything remotely close to this performance.

Old Grey Whistle test was a BBC programme, bands invited to come play live. A small studio audience yes. The back catalogue features some truly great artists and fire performances.
@MoMoMyPup1016 күн бұрын
@@thesean3194 since when is it a requirement to play in a band to know the difference between Live and Studio sound? It's laughable that you'd even bother to think about something so idiotic, let alone type it for everyone to see
@thesean319416 күн бұрын
@@MoMoMyPup10 LOL says the non music person stating this performance is “ still lame”. Having no idea the amount of practice, patience and motivation to play these studio songs live in front of live. I bet you go to concerts and boo the bands because their studio tracks sound better than their live tracks.

I remember seeing them about six months after the song came out, at a small theater in Columbus Ohio. They were the warmup act for Flo and Eddie and The Turtles. These guys were incredible, they got SEVEN standing ovations, and ran out of songs to play, had to start over, the new band they had didn't know any of their newer album! When the 'main' band got up, half the audience got up and left! And then we saw John in the parking lot and partied with him for twenty minutes or so!!! What a great guy. While Daryl shines the most, check out some of John's work over the last couple of decades. And he continues to be a really decent fellow.

If you notice the crowd was small in 1975, or the hall they chose was small, because they were not very famous yet. A Black R&B group named Tavares had a hit with She's Gone in 1974 also, and Lou Rawls sang it, so they figured why not rerelease it now that we have some name recognition with Sara Smile. Good choice. I had actually heard the Tavares version before the H&0 version.
