As a baseball fan for 45 years, I can say Barry Bonds was the best all-around player I've ever seen. He's the only player I've ever seen intentionally walked with the bases loaded. He's the only player with over 500 home runs and 500 stolen bases. I think a very underrated stat of his is that in 2004 when he hit 46 HRs he struck out only 45 times. Steroids can't help hand-eye coordination to hit the ball. If he's guilty of PED use, it would have been 1999 and after. His career prior to 1999 is a Hall of Fame career.

All true things Lance. But it's really good for kids to get the message: You can't just get by in life on talent, treat people terribly, and expect to be honored. Character matters. And when you lie by not admitting what you did that you knew/ should have known was something corrupt.... and you never repent/ show remorse.... This is what you get. People don't vote for you. That's a great lesson for kids as they grow up thinking about how they behave in school, or on the playground... when they get their first jobs.... let that message sink in: Be an honest person. And try to be respectful in an honest way. Barry went WAY out of his way to be DISrespectful. Maybe if Barry admits what he did, and does community service for some years...maybe the Hall should think about letting him and Pete Rose etc in. .... But would they repent?? That's a huge question.

Barry Bonds is the greatest and most feared hitter I've ever seen. I mean it literally looked like everytime he stepped up to the plate he was gonna hit a home run.
@SporaticPulse
@SporaticPulse 5 жыл бұрын
Bonds, Griffey Jr., Pete Rose, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Jose Canseco, and Alex Rodriguez are the only hitters I've grown up watching who were killers. They had that hitting mentality of "I'm gonna hit the ball off of you" no matter who the pitcher was. Today, I see that in Mike Trout, Jose Altuve and JD Martinez. Very seldom and very rare in the game of baseball.

I always find it peculiar that we focus on Barry Bonds and Roger Clemons as the faces of the steroid era, but the entire game has been and still is juiced. Why do we get so emotionally upset with the home runs that Bonds hit or the wins and Ks that Clemons had, but we don't acknowledge that Bonds was hitting homers off of juiced pitchers or Clemons was striking out juiced batters. They were not the only 2 players who were using stuff.

He was so good and he was overshadowed by Barry. Nobody realized what he was doing until bonds was Gone. He started his career with at least 30 homers, 100 rbi and a 300 avg every season for ten years lmao. He hit 400 home runs his first ten years. Nobody has ever done those things and we barely acknowledge the guy smh. Not comparing them because Barry had hand eye skill on his own level. But albert was more consistent to start his career than anyone ever. He played in more meaningful games and won championships. I’d take alberts career and the titles even tho few know who he is. Right or wrong, I think the reason the steroid era players have such a hard time getting into the hall is that they collectively tainted what was the most important legacy of baseball: the records. Before Maguire, Bonds, Sosa, etc those all time records were venerated by the baseball community. By achieving their “tainted” records these players forever broke what had been one of the cornerstones of baseball fandom. I think the Hall of Fame voters have a hard time getting over that, whether they are right or wrong to do so I can’t really say.

Regardless of breaking a record of any stat. or not breaking a statistic, a cheater is still a cheater, if the sports writers let one in, then the Hall of Fame becomes the Hall of Shame. Just as bad as those trying to get into colleges by cheating, either on their entrance scores or buying their way in. It just doesn’t mean anything any longer by those achieving something on their own.
