Seeing them in person blows every recording of them completely away. One of the most amazing moments I've ever seen at a concert was them, in the Arco Arena, with a packed house, asked the audience to be quiet, turned off their mikes, and by the light of a single candlelight, sung "Light In the Hallway". It filled the air to a perfectly silent crowd of literally thousands of fans, and you could hear it echo off the walls and surround you like a soothing hug good night. I will always remember that night, and hold a very soft spot in my heart for that song. It was pure magic. And yes, they really are that incredibly good.

Kevin has his own KZbin channel where you can really hear him sing. He is also a classical cellist. You can also here him on “Imagine” he’s a tenor, not a bass like most people would assume he is. Scott is a Barritone with the ability to be a bass or go higher into tenor. Kirstin is Mezzo-soprano and Mitch is counter-tenor, Avi/Matt are Bass obviously but they are both classical trained.

Dude, do some research. 1. Artificial limbs Innovations originally designed for space vehicles, including artificial muscle systems, robotic sensors, diamond-joint coatings, and temper foam, make artificial human limbs more functional, durable, comfortable and life-like. 2. Scratch-resistant lenses After NASA developed scratch-resistant astronaut helmets, the agency gave a license to Foster-Grant Corporation to continue experimenting with scratch-resistant plastics, which now comprise most sunglasses and prescription lenses. 3. Insulin pump Needing to monitor astronauts' vital signs in space, the Goddard Space Flight Center created monitoring systems that have been adapted to regulate blood sugar levels and release insulin as needed. 4. Firefighting equipment The polymers created for use in space suits have been valuable in creating flame-retardant, heat-resistant suits for firefighters. Newer suits also feature circulating coolant to keep firefighters from succumbing to heat and advanced breathing systems modeled after astronaut life support systems. 5. DustBusters During the Apollo moon landings, NASA partnered with Black & Decker to invent various battery-powered tools for drilling and taking rock samples in space. This led to the creation of the ultra-light, compact, cordless DustBuster. 6. LASIK Technology used to track astronauts' eyes during periods in space in order to assess how humans' frames of reference are affected by weightlessness has become essential for use during LASIK surgery. The device tracks a patient's eye positions for the surgeon. 7. Shock absorbers for buildings Shock absorbers designed to protect equipment during space shuttle launches are now used to protect bridges and buildings in areas prone to earthquakes. 8. Solar cells Out of a need to power space missions, NASA has invented, and consistently improved, photovoltaic cells, sharing the advancements with other companies to accelerate the technology. 9. Water filtration In the 1970s, NASA developed filtration systems that utilized iodine and cartridge filters to ensure that astronauts had access to safe, tasteless water. This filtering technology is now standard. 10. Better tires After the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company invented the material used in NASA's Viking Lander parachute shrouds, the company began using it in its everyday radial tires. The material is stronger than steel and adds thousands of miles of life to the tires. 11. Wireless headsets Along with two airline pilots who'd invented a prototype of a wireless headset, NASA built a light, hands-free communication system that would allow astronauts to communicate with teams on Earth. The technology was utilized in the Mercury and Apollo missions. 12. Adjustable smoke detector In partnership with the Honeywell Corporation, NASA improved smoke detector technology in the 1970s, creating a unit with adjustable sensitivity to avoid constant false alarms. 13. Invisible braces After NASA and Ceradyne invented a clear material that could protect radar equipment without blocking the radar's signal, Unitek Corporation/3M teamed up with Ceradyne, using the material to invent invisible braces. 14. Freeze-dried foods During long space missions where every ounce of weight and inch of space aboard a shuttle must be maximized, freeze-dried foods have become a staple. Freeze-dried foods are incredibly light, and they retain their nutritional value. Once reconstituted, they are also easier and more pleasant to eat than former meal sources that were packed into squeeze tubes. 15. Camera phones In the 1990s, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory invented a light, miniature imaging system that required little energy in order to take high quality photographs from space. This technology has become standard in cell phone and computer cameras. 16. CAT scans NASA's digital signal technology, originally used to recreate images of the moon during the Apollo missions, is the underlying technology that makes CAT scans and MRIs possible. 17. Baby formula A nutritious, algae-based vegetable oil invented by NASA scientists who were searching for a recycling agent to use during long space missions is now an additive in many infant formulas. It contains two essential fatty acids that cannot be synthesized by the human body. 18. Lifeshears The pyrotechnic mechanism used to detach a space shuttle from its rocket boosters after launch is the same used in Lifeshears, but in a smaller scale. Lifeshears are a tool that can be used in emergency situations to cut into cars or collapsed buildings to rescue people trapped inside. 19. Grooved pavement The requirements for landing space shuttles led NASA scientists to do extensive research on minimizing hydroplaning - when vehicles slide uncontrollably on a wet surface - on runways. They discovered that cutting grooves into runways helps channel water away from the runway and significantly reduces accidents. Many highways and airports now have grooved pavement. 20. Air purifier In the sealed, artificial environment of a spacecraft, attempts to grow plants have led to ethylene buildup. NASA invented an air purifier for the International Space Station that is now used widely on Earth - everywhere from restaurants, to hospitals, to refrigerators - to remove ethylene, which hastens decay, as well as other particulates and pathogens. 21. Memory foam Memory foam was originally invented as a pad for astronaut seats that would mold to their bodies during the high forces of takeoff and landing, then return to a neutral state. This eliminated the need to customize seats to individual astronauts' body sizes. 22. Workout machines Because prolonged exposure to zero-gravity leads to bone loss and muscle atrophy, NASA created workout machines to enable astronauts to maintain physical fitness while in space. 23. Home insulation NASA began experimenting with insulation technology for the Apollo space crafts and suits, leading to the invention of common construction insulation. 24. Infrared ear thermometers Infrared ear thermometers, which allow for instant temperature capture without the risk of picking up pathogens and causing cross-infection, utilize the same technology developed for assessing the temperature of distant planets. 25. Ice-resistant airplanes Ice is a real threat for shuttles in space, and NASA has devised multiple electronic solutions to prevent ice formation on spacecrafts, some of which are now used on commercial aircraft. 26. Portable computer The first portable computer, the Grid Compass, was used on multiple shuttle missions in the 1980s. Nicknamed SPOC (Shuttle Portable On-Board Computer), the computer could communicate with onboard devices and was used to launch satellites off space shuttles. 27. LEDs Intended for use to help in growing plants aboard space shuttles, NASA's LED technology has been utilized in the development of LED medical devices that relax muscles and relieve pain in soldiers, cancer patients, and those with Parkinson's disease. 28. 3D food printing The ability to cook food on long space missions is no longer impossible with the invention of 3D food printers. This technology is now being refined for commercial use for the production of chocolates and other confections as well as to create nutritious foods for diabetics and others with specific dietary needs. 29. Computer mouse While searching for a way to increase interaction with onboard computers and allow users to perform tasks like manipulate data, NASA and Stanford researchers developed the first mouse. 30. Athletic shoes A shock-absorbent rubber molding designed for astronauts' helmets inspired what is now a common feature in the soles of modern athletic shoes.1. Artificial limbs Innovations originally designed for space vehicles, including artificial muscle systems, robotic sensors, diamond-joint coatings, and temper foam, make artificial human limbs more functional, durable, comfortable and life-like.

@@lachimiste1 Not to mention the incalculable benefit space exploration brings for future creativity, imagination, and innovation here on Earth. When Apollo 11 landed on the moon, that single event created an entire generation of scientists and engineers who were thinkers, creators, and problem solvers. @@TiaMargarita tootsie rolls were originally a military food as a shelf stable treet that could be both carried in battle and stored for long periods of time between conflicts. An interesting side note, they could be kneaded like silly putty and used to patch bullet holes in the fule tanks/lines of jeeps and trucks to save the loss of fuel so the troops could still use the vehicles to escape heavy enemy fire. The fuel lines back then were not pressurised from the tank, the fuel was drawn like a straw by a cam driven pump on the motor, so suction, not pressure between the tank and engine compartment, allowing such a patch to work.

@@thomasarussellsr Others have chimed in but there's one thing I'll add. Virtually all digital communications, including cellular were first developed for military application. Further, the funding for scientific research that underlies all this stuff is tied to national security. The kicker is that the US government does not patent any of these allowing private production (and subsequent development) to proceed unimpeded. I still deeply oppose the military industrial complex. When I listen to a live version of any vocal piece, I listen closely to hear if the singer(s) change any rhythms, enunciations, etc. I can’t say I was shocked but I knew Scott would mess with some of his parts. He did it right off the bat. Kirsten took a large breath in one spot where they are usually phrase sharing. I’ve never heard her breathe at that spot and it exposed the blankness of that moment she usually carries through beautifully. Those are just little picky parts that stood out for me, as I have adjudicated music for many years. But my Lord! If you have such a God given voice, who cares where she takes a breath or if he fudges the notes of the melodic line, for whatever reason made him make that choice. The whole point is yes, they DO sound the same in recordings as they do in live performances. I have greater respect for a group that has control live, as they do in a recording studio. AMAZING!!

Kevin is actually a tenor when he sings. But he does the beat so it often coordinated with the bass singer’s gorgeous voice(avi or matt). Also in pitch perfect, every single actor or actress was actually singing. That’s one of the reasons I love those movies. I’m not roasting but I do disagree with your human waste decision. There actually has been a pretty decent return with the space exploration thing. We have tons of innovations and inventions that were produced because the engineers were trying to get to space. Just throw a google search out there. From the time we acquired the nazi scientists after WWII to the present day, our human innovation numbers have skyrocketed. No pun intended. One of my college professors worked for nasa before coming to my university and there are so so many things, small and large, that have been discovered or invented. Without more resources, it’d be hard for me to quantify the cost/benefit analysis and maybe these days, the investment is overblown. But overall, I think the human advancement has been mostly worth it.

I am glad to hear that about pitch perfect haha I was hoping that was the case, but with hollywood, you never know. But hey, now I know!

@@SuffiReax I do agree that the world is a mess in many ways. But I do personally believe that Space Exploration is still a major thing. I agree we should focus on Earth Bound things. But the research done by NASA, (And other groups dedicated to space based research) Have improved things here on earth, (Better understanding of radiation, allowing better treatment of certain medical conditions. for example, and technology that is used in Military and Space Exploration eventually Funnel Down to commercial level after something better has been discovered or it becomes easier to produce on a larger scale.) I can understand your opinion though as for example, Manned Exploration of anything in space, other than Low Earth Orbit and the ISS, has basically ended since the last person to land on the moon. But instead of cutting it down, i think we need to start getting ready for more manned missions to deep space. As i said, I understand your opinion, and as such, have nothing against it, But i am a Heartfelt believer in advancing those assorted fields because of both the technology gain we can earn from it, and the future possibilities it can open up for future generations.

Great reaction. Cudor for knowing the names that early! Just one flaw: Kevin is a tenor. Avi and Matt are the bass. When one of them sings, Scott takes over the bass.

Leonard Cohen, the author of this song, heard it shortly before he died and he apparently said it was a favourite version of his and I have to agree

Have you heard Pentatonix do their original song Love Again on Soundcheck? It’s truly amazing.

When Ahhhhvi sings, Scott does the bass. You can see it better in the live version
@linneafrangipane57854 жыл бұрын
so Avi and now Matt are actually the ones who do the bass. Kevin makes the beat. And when the base sings the lead vocal, Scott will actually do the base as he has such a wide range! Either way they're amazing

Yes. I agree. They hum in harmony better than a lot of bands sing at their best. Their talent just keeps growing as they mature. Love that you did the studio and live version comparison in one video. Kudos!

Wow... never saw a video from you this old... glad to see you grew up. I mean that in the nicest way ;) Your reaction to Tim Minchin's stuff about 2 years from now is what I'm used to... funny how the internet goes, lol.

Great reaction. It is incredible to think that on this song there are 4 different arrangements of the verse and 6 of the chorus, and each spectacular. In the live version, the phrasing is ever so slightly different.

Hallelujah was written in 1984 by Leonard Cohen. Way before it was used in Shrek. Many singers have covered this song in fact there are 300 versions recorded.

You're wrong about the space program. There have been so many technology spinoffs that have made things better. Digital watches and cameras, digital radio transmission and satellite TV and radio, insulin pumps, solar cells, LASIK surgery, artificial limb advancements, scratch resistant lenses, wireless headphones, infrared fever thermometers, water purification and recycling, ceramics, wearable medical monitors (like FitBit), thermal insulation, battery technology, and many more. All of these technologies either were developed or greatly improved by the space program. As for the homeless, look at San Francisco. Not all homeless are like this but a significant portion are. A huge number of public restrooms were installed and they're still taking a dump in the middle of the sidewalk, sometimes within feet of the restrooms. Millions spent on free housing, even taking over whole motels and hotels. Many destroy the property and some use the rooms for drug labs and move back onto the streets. A friend of mine in LA had to stop walking to work. If you got near the edge of the sidewalk the homeless would sometimes shove you out in front of passing traffic while you're sidestepping used needles on the sidewalk. Many with mental health issues refuse help or won't take their medication. If they are involuntarily committed they often sue. There was a famous case of a homeless man who stunk so bad that he would cause all other patrons of a public library to leave to avoid getting sick. When the library kicked him out a "public interest" group sued on his behalf. He received several million dollars and a place to live. A decade later the money was still in the bank and he was still living on the street.

Avi and later, Matt are the Bass singers. Scott sometimes covers the bass parts when they sing lead though. he has an amazing range too. Kevin is a Tenor when he sings, but most times he does the beatboxing and sometimes plays the Cello

They do a small group performance for their VIP audience members and there is a clip of them singing Valentine to maybe 10 people. It's AWESOME. The NASA budget is a fraction of a percent of the total US budget. Also we have gotten many useful materials and increased our knowledge in medicine and other fields because of it. In my opinion the biggest waste of human potential is racism. Liked your reaction and suscribed.

Pentatonix is THE acapella group. great reaction. I would like to see allot more reactions to pentatonix videos. Pentatonix followers (pentaholics) are very loyal and the more you react to their videos the more subscriptions you will get. There are so many videos you could react to....far too many to list but here are some cool choices...They've won 3 grammys for these videos..daft punk, dance of the sugar plum fairies, jolene w/ dolly parton...some originals could be...sing, love again, and happy now (their newest release)....also there is bohemian rhapsody (the finest cover of the classic rock song ever made), attention, sound of silence, little drummer boy, god rest ye merry gentlemen, your'e a mean one mr grinch, wizard of ahhhs (a montage of 16 songs made to tell the classic story of wizard of oz), i need your love, cruisin for a bruisin, starships....off their home album (which was recorded entirely in their own homes separately and mixed...home, blinding lights, dreams, break my heart, when the part's over...there are so many more....look forward to watching more reactions

Great Reaction! I agree up to a certain degree with you space exploration opinion, especially when it comes to timing. Right now we, as a world, have bigger fish to fry right here. In the long run I think it is valuable, since it could improve our resource situation and options. Even though we are a very long way away from getting return on this investment, these are no achievements we can make on short notice. And I second the request for "imagine" ;) Thank you for your reactions!

Sound of Silence is also on Jimmy Kimmel LIVE.... now, for outdoor production, Kimmel added drums at the END, but you do hear Kevin LIVE, and he’s started using an amplification mat for his foot stomps ?,& has gotten really good with the placement of mics to help with amplification, too

For the full score of what Kev can do, I always recommend Say Something. He celloboxes (beatboxes as he plays cello) and sings on that track, true triple threat.

In the chorus where Avi (the bass) sings, Scott (the man who sang the first verse) takes over the bass, it's amazing how they don't fake that many of their vocals (except for the last chorus deep M sound ofc) Amazing song to react to!

Kevin is the beatboxer and also a tenor for the group. Scott, the baritone, is the one that replaces Avi as bass when Avi sings. Avi is the bass and known as one of the best basses in modern music! You should react to Avi’s music after he left the group!
