Back in the 1960's I lived in a little Lancashire Town Called Failsworth, it lies between Oldham & Manchester. I could guarantee when ever I was working nights the Salvation Army band would strike up their music outside a house five doors up from where we lived. How I cursed them under my breath. The opening scenes of this series brings it all back to me. I left the area in 1968.

This makes me deeply nostalgic. I’m Catholic but I used to love the Sally Army band at Christmas and the stuff they did for people was almost like a mini voluntary welfare state. I miss them a lot because the Citadel in our town closed for want of members

The Salvation army were the only church that went into the trenches and helped the soldiers in both ww1 & ww11. They were and still are the only church who go into the hotels to help not just preach people with drinking problems. They have dry out drug centres around the world. They don't just dress to be seen in the front pew. They don't have gold on their church They don't judge. I am not catholic I am methodist. But I must say St Vincent de Paul does the best welfare with planned meals. And care of the people whom honestly are in need. Love the sense of humour this show has. A breath of fresh air

I haven't seen this in decades. Nice to see a lovely awkward cameo from Twice Nightly Whiteley as well!👍

I didn't know that was Phillip Jackson until the TV interview scene.
