Sheriff Leigh Brackett is named after screenwriter Leigh Brackett. She wrote several movies directed by Carpenter favourite Howard Hawks. Hawks/Brackett's Rio Bravo was the inspiration for Assault On Precinct 13 which also featured a character named Leigh. (Leigh Brackett also wrote the early draft of The Empire Strikes Back shortly before her death.)

as we seen Laurie Strode opened the double doors leading outside and hid in the closet locking it but instead of falling for that trick he finds her in the locked closet assuming since it is locked she was in there. which she was .....ok makes sence. what she really should have done lock the closet then run outside letting Michael waste time braking into the closet it since it is locked and assumed she was in there. but she really is not..

He doesn't want to kill her. Hes obsessed with her though. He only decides to kill her when she turns up at the house of horrors were her friends bodies are & something snaps in him when she gets away from him. Maybe its because shes his sister that she survives? Maybe its because she doesn't seem to be sexually promiscuous in the way his older sisters & her friends were? I'm presuming, had Laurie not gone over & found the bodies, Michael would have taken off the mask after midnight on Halloween & left Hadonfield & would only return the following year & every year until he was caught or killed.

Not to mention, Michael pulled Judith's gravestone out of the ground and somehow got it back to the house. The immense amount of strength it would take for one person to do something like that. Carpenter might have done that intentionally.

One thing that is always impressed me about the original ‘Halloween’ is the close attention to detail using the colors orange and black to symbolize Halloween-if you look closely at the board review scene in the directors cut you can see the color combination of orange seats and black desks in a lecture hall + Dean Cundey’s cinematography and clever lighting techniques gives us the appearance of an orange couch in the living room of the Doyle house during the ending montage…great subtle tie ins in my opinion 👀

If you've ever been in a traumatic, violent encounter where you had to use a weapon there's a feeling of dropping after and it's probably disgust at the knife that Laurie felt and is why she dropped it. She thought he was dead and she is horrified by the situation and doesn't want a reminder. "Get this away from me." If it was real she would probably have thrown up too. To me it's some brilliant acting work on Curtis's part. Not sure if that's what she was going for. I've been in quite a few very violent struggles, yes PTSD, and I hate what I get from that scene.

Just a little thing I've noticed, and I mentioned to Nancy Loomis ( Annie ) when I met her. When she " accidentally " gets locked in fhe laundry room, if you freeze frame it, you'll catch that she is actually locking the door just before she starts tryimg to open it. It's as clear as day. Just a minor thing, but thought it was cool when I first caught it. Very much enjoyed watching this.

I enjoyed your breakdown and some details and things that I had missed, even though I watch it every year. I watched it on its' initial theatrical release, long ago. I always interpreted it as Michael was initially a normal child, who was invaded by the spirit of Samhain, or the Boogie man. The Boogie Man was always a mysterious and frightening figure in scary tales , and it was never explained how it came to be, or why it attacked children. I like the idea that some things, like evil, can NOT be explained or understood, they just simply ARE. That's why Loomis stops trying to help the murderous child, as he recognizes that it is no longer a child, it is an evil ancient entity. To me, most of the sequels and remakes miss the mark, as they try to explain ad nauseum. Good job!

@@Vicus_of_Utrechti disagree.. although the original concept is peak, it was copied by and predated by just about any slasher ever. the slasher being related to the protagonist is actually rare amongst the icons. freddy-revenge killing of kids tied to adults who killed him, then eventually everyone in the town Jason- anyone who comes to crystal lake or escapes his grasp along the way chucky-anyone, then andy/whoever he told his secret to 1st, then anybody he could pinhead-anyone who solves the puzzle ghostface-multiple killers all linked to the protag in various ways really the best example of a family based drama/horror besides michael/laurie is Vader/Luke so id argue the only thing better than michael hunting laurie is michael hunting jamie(his niece) and that’s more terrifying because she’s a younger more vulnerable character and even easier to root for and be afraid for while the relationship is perfect to mine for drama and tension

I don't agree, at all. Has no teeth to that, and I get that Carpenter never wanted a sequel nor the idea of Michael being related to Laurie, which was perfectly brilliant to leave as is as a one off movie, but he DID the sequel so now there needs to be more meaning to things since he decided to have Michael continue after Laurie. That lil brother-sister twist, I thought, was "genius," even tho Carpenter said he hated the idea when reluctantly coming up with the sequel but, again, he DID the sequel so there needed to be some weight to things.

I watched it Nov 78, aged 10. I recall masturbating for the very first time upon watching the character Annie (Laurie Strode's mouthy girlfriend) get strangled and stabbed while wearing panties and a white shirt, by Mike Myers, while she was about to put the key into the ignition. My very first fap, Nov 1978. I believe the actress is called Nancy Loomis and was born in 1949. I fapped to a female a full 19 yrs older than myself. Great times, the 70s.

Laurie was always the intended target, from the moment she stepped on the Myers house porch and he saw her. He sits outside HER classroom window, not Annie’s. After he sees ALL the girls walking home from school, he decides he wants all the girls dead. Maybe he stalked Annie most because she yelled at him. But saying Laurie was never a target is borderline insane when it’s very clear she was.

This was fantastic. Halloween is one of my five favorite movies. I always wondered if there is a continuity error from when he got the mask to when you hear the alarm at the Hardware store. He was presumably wearing the mask for at least a couple of hours before Laurie and Annie see her dad at the Hardware store with the alarm going off.
@deanpurdie4010
@deanpurdie4010 Жыл бұрын
I'm glad somebody else has noticed this too - I think it is clear he is wearing the mask when he sees Laurie drop off the keys before she goes to school - and the hardware store alarm is still ringing when Laurie has finished school. Assuming the store keeps normal opening hours, surely he would have broken in (hence the alarm) in the early hours when it was shut. So although the sheriff could have been there in the afternoon takings statements, the alarm would surely not have been ringing. Maybe they did it for the joke about "he shouts too"?

He grabbed me and my mom by our shoulders and yelled "Rawrrrrr!!!". How I didn't fail an underwear check is beyond me. My mom and I screamed and jumped and freaked out. It wasn't until I saw it on TV that I knew what happened in the station wagon. I had no idea for 20 years who was in the station wagon, if they were killed, none of it.

One thing you have to remember is that the budget for this movie was only 320k and was filmed in under a month. A lot of the subtle details and hidden meanings people like to point out are purely coincidence. John carpenter has been on record saying this. They had no idea this movie would ever be what it eventually became. They John was still fresh out of film school and only agreed to make the movie if yablans would put John’s name on the opening credits. Another thing was the face in the promotional poster of the knife and pumpkin. The artist said the face in the hand was neat after being pointed out but never did that intentionally. It's crazy how Robert Englund worked on the film and became a big star of his own horror franchise. Full Circle.

I love the videos, but what I really have to applaud you for is finding really funny, different ways of telling us to subscribe and like. It's really refreshing to hear that. I get that you have to remind people, but my gods I cannot hear that in any other video. It's so annoying. Your way is THE to do it. Thank you for being funny.

I think Laurie was intended target simply because she walked on his porch. He stalks her all day, he also knows Laurie is the only one to notice him multiple times stalking her. When they split off onto babysitting houses, he goes after Annie 1st. Why? Because she's Laurie's friend and she is distracted not noticing him a single time. He knocks her off 1st, Linda and Bob show up. He's incredibly patient and methodical. Its worth saying the ghost sheet (& his horror spook house for Laurie to find) is like a real evil version of a Halloween scare prank a 6 year old would think of, presenting the bodies to Laurie as her Halloween Trick is his Halloween Treat. The trick/treat swells a bubble and bursts when he misstabs Laurie and her falling down the stairs. Laurie is the intended central target. Annie, Linda, Bob are props for his big haunted murder house scare for Laurie. He very much intentionally intended to create enough ambiguous concern for Laurie to come over alone so she can find his big Halloween prank: her dead friends on a Halloween display of his haunted house scare. He intended to scare her just before killing. Annie, Bob and Linda are relatively fast efficient kills, with Laurie he wanted to give her a big Halloween scare. I'm sure her evading the stab twice, needle in neck, Hanger in eye and finally knife in the heart was an utter shock to him expecting this to go quicker. This is in my opinion what, how it went. But just like asking was it MacReady or Childs, its an answer of what is in that head of his basing it off intention and action, we just will never know. And that among others is why this film holds up and is still genuinely scary, unlike ALL of the sequels.

During the scene with Loomis in the phone booth, a train goes by. I think it's in at least one other scene and can be heard in the background of a few scenes. Possibly as a metaphor for the unstoppable force of evil or death.

What you said about our minds creating the violence has the same effect in the film, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. People swore they saw a bloodbath of people being slaughtered which there were but not in a gory fashion as most modern horror is today. It’s a crazy effect. I had the same feeling watching Texas Chainsaw and Halloween. Thinking there was a lot of blood. Really enjoyed this. Nice work 👍

Plot Hole: The mask theft doesnt make sense. Michael is wearing the mask when Laurie drops off the keys before school, and it isnt until hours after school that Annie pulls off, and that alarm just happens to shut off during that convo. Meaning: that alarm had been on for over 9 hours, and that the sheriff was just getting there, which makes no sense.

Sheriff Brackett (Lee Brackett) Named after Leigh Brackett who was mostly a science fiction writer who wrote the novelization of The Empire Strikes Back but she also was a writer of the screenplay for Rio Bravo, the movie directed by Howard Hawks, which John Carpenter based Assault on Precinct 13 on. Possibly she is where he got the name. Just a theory.

Yeah that’s true. Carpenter also used the alias John T. Chance as the editor for Assault on Precinct 13th, which is John Wayne’s character in Rio Bravo.
