Casting Notes Fact: John Carpenter considered the hiring of Jamie Lee Curtis, her theatrical debut, as the ultimate tribute to Alfred Hitchcock who had given her mother, Janet Leigh, legendary status in Psycho (1960). The adult Michael Myers was portrayed by Nick Castle in almost every scene, except for some pick-up shots and the unmasking scene, where he was replaced by Tony Moran. Castle was a school-buddy of John Carpenter, and was on set just to watch the movie be filmed. It was at the suggestion of John Carpenter that he took up the role of Michael Myers, as he was tall and had what Carpenter considered an interesting walk. Castle admitted he was disappointed to not be the face shown, but understood that Carpenter wanted a more "angelic" face to juxtapose with Myers' ghastly deeds. Castle has gone on to become a successful director.

Some fun facts, the little girl Lindsey is one of the Beverly Hills Housewives (Kyle). Also, the movie is supposed to be set in Illiniois, but it is actually filmed in Pasadena, California. They had a hard time conveying the fact that it was Fall with the often sunny skies and lack of folliage. So they had to use a lot of smoke machines and drop dead leaves in front of the camera by hand.

10:26 Well that's the thing about this movie, the story takes place on Halloween! That means seeing people with masks or dressed in costumes doesn't concern anyone - and when one of all those dressed up people is an actual killer, noone would notice, at least not immediately. That's why the protagonists are more confused than concerned at first and that's what makes this situation so scary. ^^

Halloween cemented many of the horror movie tropes taken for granted today. 911 didn't exist in 1978. To call the police or the fire department required dialing all seven numbers and that could take several seconds to do on a rotary phone. Carpenter made this before he made The Thing, which is a remake of a sci-fi movie from 1951, The Thing From Another Planet.

Someone probably already answered this, but Jamie Lee Curtis turned 20 in November 1978 so she was 19 when they filmed it (in May). So JLC is 64 (soon 65) and still hot. Don't we just hate people like that? Well, of course we can't hate Curtis. She's just too lovely!

Here's the basic rundown first there was a story called Who Goes There then the movie The Thing from another World is based on that story Who Goes There. John Carpenter often writes (and perform) his own music for his movies. He's one of those movie makers that writes scripts and produces his own movies too. He's even had some tiny roles (usually uncredited) in them too. If you put him on a desert island with enough equipment, he'll have a couple of movies done when you rescue him. :D Not sure if he's done any editing since the 1976 Assault on Precinct 13 though...

Other John Carpenter tips: 1981 - Escape from New York (With Kurt Russell in the lead as Snake Plissken.) 1986 - Big Trouble in Little China (Also with K Russell. Him and Carpenter work well together.) 1988 - They Live (Has one of the best, and funniest, fighting scenes in movie history.) 1994 - In the Mouth of Madness (Together with The Thing and 1987's Prince of Darkness*, this ends Carpenter's Apocalypse Trilogy.) 1998 - Vampires (Dirty and gritty vampires. Kind of similar to them in The Lost Boys. Not very glamorous or sexy.) * Prince of Darkness isn't a favorite Carpenter movie, and the "trilogy"-movies has no real connection other than the apocalyptic theme. So you can watch In the Mouth of Madness as a standalone movie. You don't even need to remember anything from The Thing. In the Mouth of Madness is my absolute favorite of his movies.

@@Nicolas.Vincent I completely disagree again. I understand the idea of leaving the reasons of Michaels actions a mystery but the brother/sister thing gave the story a reason. And by the way, good job in giving away the plot twist of part 2 before the beautiful young lady who runs this channel even got to watch it. And not all of them are crap. To me part 1 and 2 are one big awesome movie. I always enjoyed part 3 even though Myers isn’t in it. It should have been a stand alone movie without the Halloween name attached to it. Part 4 was good except the that the mask sucked. Part 5 wasn’t good. The Tina character alone ruined the movie for me. The theatrical release of part 6 was ok but not great but the alternate version of part 6 worse. H20 could have been better, especially the title. Not only was Resurrection a terrible movie, it was one of the worst movies of all time. Halloween 2018 was a good movie and Kills was less good and Ends ranks slightly above Resurrection.

Myers gets his eyes shot out by useless Laurie, saved again by Loomis. 3 isn't a Halloween movie, but it is a joke pile of garbage! So that tracks. 4 is OK, 5 is on shaky ground, especially when they killed Rachel, and Myers magically grows his eyes back for his little weeping scene 😂 6 just garbage culmination of bad writing and passing the buck to the next Director. 7, shit, 8 shit's sequel, but nowhere near one of the worst films ever made. Halloween is knows as the un-fun pretentious franchise, but Resurrection is fun and unpretentious. Resurrection subverts all expectations, and I appreciate that. H40 was totally forgettable pretentious crap again piled on more pretentious crap, Kills was fun for the kills, and nothing else. Ends would have been better with no Myers at all, but I like that they crush his melon at the End. I know you probably Hate RZ's Halloween 2. That's why your opinion is as valuable to me as your content 🤷‍♂️ You probably have no taste. But you're right. The "twist" is a spoiler, that goes on to even taint and spoil and ruin RZ's stories.

Halloween was inspired by Psycho. When creating Halloween, Carpenter took major inspiration from the Hitchcock classic in terms of story structure, cinematography, and scares this is why you don't really see any blood or gore in this movie. Those films usually had a shadowy, faceless villain dressed in a leather overcoat, wielding a knife. Also, the scene where Laurie runs from house to house from Michael is almost a frame by frame copy of a scene from Night of the Living Dead. Halloween drew inspiration from lots of great horror flicks.

Actually here's what the inspiration was for the movie this comes from. This information comes from two places first. The Shout/ Scream Factory Collector's Edition of Black Christmas 1974. On the audio commentary an bonus features with its writer and director Bob Clark. He tells the story of telling a young John Carpenter who asked him if was was going to make a sequel to Black Christmas. How would he go about it Bob Clark said he would have the killer get arrested and sent to a mental hospital. Then a year later he would escape the mental hospital an stalk an kill more girls from that same sorority. This would happen in October. Then just a few years later John Carpenter released a movie. About a psychopath that escapes a mental hospital an stalks and kills wemon in October. So John Carpenter basically got the story plot from Bob Clark. Because that was the hypothetical sequel story plot for the sequel to Black Christmas 1974. Now for the inspiration for Michael Myers himself. This information comes from the audio commentary on John Carpenter's original Halloween on Blu-ray. On that audio commentary John Carpenter said when he was on a school trip. They went to a mental hospital an he seen a hospital patient that just looked at people. With black emotionless eyes that looked like their was nothing behind them. So that patient was the real inspiration for Michael Myers. It had nothing to do with the movie Psycho or any other movies.

This was a very low budget movie that grossed very well at the box office and started a phenomenon. This would be the beginning of many horror movies using holidays and dates such as 'Friday the 13th, Silent Night/Deadly Night, April Fools Day and My Bloody Valentine to name a few. You should watch the sequel, it gives details why Michael Myers is going after Laurie. 'Halloween' to date is one of the most successful independent films in cinema history.

Laurie is so sad, needs saving again, and then they taint and ruin the entire franchise with the Brother/Sister retcon. Halloween stops being a worth while pursuit the second it ends. It has got to be the single most pretentious and lazy franchise in all of cinematic history. 1st one is good tho!

He was getting ready to name the movie ' The Babysitter Murders' It was the executive producer that gave Carpenter the idea to rename the movie Halloween since everything took place Halloween night. My point is the success of that movie started a phenomenon. You ask many about Black Christmas and Halloween, the majority is gonna be more familiar with Halloween.

Bob Clark, the Writer/Director of Black Christmas stated on the commentary track that a young Carpenter asked how he would imagine a sequel to Black Christmas. Clark told Carpenter he'd have the killer arrested and hospitalized for a year, then he'd escape and terrorize the same Sorority house, but this time, during Halloween. Halloween, aka The Babysitter Murders is a direct sequel to Black Christmas! Every plot point and especially the POV killer perspective, was lifted straight from Black Christmas and directly from Clark himself, by John Carpenter. 4 years later, we got Halloween. Carpenter didn't want to continue the franchise so he wrote Myers' death into the sequel. 2 blood shot eyes and an explosion. He didn't invent an unstoppable killer. He tried to drop the franchise, but they made 12 more. You're right, Halloween is much more a popular flick than Black Christmas, however, Halloween is a direct sequel to Black Christmas 🤷‍♂️

Talk about someone not paying attention when they watch a movie. You take the grand prize because this movie shows Michael Myers as a kid kill his sister. Then Dr Loomis and the nurse talked about how he's been locked up in the mental hospital. Since he killed his sister so clearly Michael Myers has always been a real person. Did you even see this movie because it sounds like you. Just made up a movie from scratch right now. Because the movie itself completely destroys everything you just said as made up bs .

FYI, the whole concept of the killer not dying after "being killed" originated with this flick. Carpenter invented an entire genre. and the point is that he's pure evil, not human at all, which was on original concept at the time.
