The brutality of this scene alone is really what sells it for me that this is a crotchety, old Boogeyman. It's still ruthlessly efficient, terrifyingly claustrophobic, and incredibly voyeuristic, like he is back in 1978, but there's just this level of realistic brutality that I don't think I've ever been more terrified of; it even extends to the other kills in this movie; sure, some of them are a little more gory than Halloween 1978, but you still get that really simplistic, almost primal feel to his kills.
@surround834 жыл бұрын
Halloween 78 had no gore at all if not little plus this one is much more fast-paced which is why it surpeeds the original.
@NagandEmerald4 жыл бұрын
@@surround83 Eeeeeeeehhhh...being fast-paced doesn't necessarily mean it supercedes the original. This film has its flaws, just like Halloween 1978 has its flaws. The only major difference is that the flaws of this one are a little more obvious, and more just bad story angles, like the twist of Sartain's allegiances which literally only served getting Michael to Laurie. It felt jarring and unnatural to the story. Instead of dedicating time to that, they could've dedicated time to the Shape stalking in the daytime before we get to the major brutality of Halloween 2018, same making the final confrontation at Laurie's bunker that much better. Is it a good film? Absolutely. Is it better than the original? No. Is it a flawed film? Absolutely, just like Halloween 1978 is flawed in the approach to some of its characters. But, for sheer usage of the Shape, and the nature of evil, I think Halloween 2018 hits the nail on the head for the first time since Halloween 1978.
@surround834 жыл бұрын
@@NagandEmerald I've personally never found H78 to be all that great and Imo it's re-watchability is quite testing due how long it takes to set up things which is why I prefer H18 but each to their own.
@NagandEmerald4 жыл бұрын
@@surround83 I suppose that is a fair criticism, but one that's primarily based in audiences that don't like the prospect of waiting. Waits are boring and, therefore, the tension-building in the original is boring because no one's getting killed. What H78 excels at is the looming sense of dread. H18 takes that looming sense of dread, and makes it into something that's palpable for modern audiences. As I said. Not a bad choice by any stretch of the imagination. I'd honestly say it makes Halloween 2018 a little easier to digest as a movie, but you look at the success of films like A Quiet Place, and you can see how well a Michael Myers almost entirely true to his roots could be, especially if focuses are kept on the actual characters he's stalking, with Myers simply looming in the background, giving that sense of dread and doom again.

The most horrific part of this scene to me is how aaron originally came into save her, but as his head is continually slammed against the walls, his face becomes covered in blood, the damage to his brain leaves him in shock as he loses control over his body, leaving him almost confused, and ultimately he loses his strength as hes slammed through the door and he begs her for help, his voice so weak and shaky due to the shock.

I understand it’s not for everyone. I’ve heard all the voices on that front. But personally I just never understood the hate. All three movies connect and bleed into each other so beautifully yet still have each film H, HK & HE all stand on their own as great films in this series. I’m so happy and satisfied with what we got given. Even if the last film was especially violently polarising for people. Personally loved it.
