You're absolutely right! Halloween isn't about buying decor, it's about enjoying the season. I wanted to start doing something that mattered this year. I started rescuing reptiles that were not being properly cared for and spending my money on them, they have brought me far more joy than any piece of decor ever has. I can't believe I wasted so much money on it in the past. Never again. There are so many better ways to enjoy Halloween and now I have some scaly friends to enjoy the season with! Sorry for the rant.

I use this same mentality to prepare financially for each season, and it has served my family so well! The questions I ask are: 1) Can I buy this secondhand? 2) Can I easily repurpose other items into something similar to the item I want? 3) Is this a truly unique item that I would lament not buying? 4) Does the item complement an activity my family enjoys? It means purchases are made with more intention and carefully considering our budget. I'd definitely love to see more spooky crafting videos this Halloween season!

You are so correct! I wanted to add that estate sales are a great way to find actual Halloween decor at cheep prices and find spooky looking things that can add a spooky feel to the season.

Thrifting and DIYs are the way to go to really save money on any kind of Halloween decor and also just using items around your own house that you can flip and create into Halloween decor. It's so much fun! I hope you join me for June Oween😊

The FOMO is always so real. I have learned the past few years that I am not a code orange creator. It’s so anxiety inducing for me and it’s so transactional with my audience rather than relationship building. Coming to peace with that helps me move through any comparison trap issues like you mentioned. It’s a huge reason why I focus less on Halloween decor hunting and more on Halloween physical media/hobbies/experienes!! Omg ghost in a jar!!!! Iconic. Remember I tried it myself? I still have him in a cabinet and somehow he has stayed perfectly together for an entire year 😂 Can’t wait to bust him out!!

Oh my social media and fomo is so real. I’m glad I’m not the only one. I get so depressed every year when I can’t buy all the fancy Halloween stuff. This year I’m sewing my own Halloween folk art dolls to decorate with.

I am known for my Halloween heart 🧡 in the beginning years of making our house a home I did a lot of homemade decorations ( and still use many ). I also repurpose items around the house to use in my decorating which brings so much life to older items. My favorite homemade piece is an old picture frame that had multiple spots for photos. I went to dollar tree and bought 2/$1 Halloween greeting cards and cut them up to place in the frames. Some I used the cover some I used the sayings written on the inside of the card.
