🤣🤣🤣 it always felt that way to me🤣 I've seen it so many times and when i talk about the movie with friends-aside from a few scenes- I'm like, ummm... 🤷‍♂️ 😆. Yeah i used to lump H4 in with H5 because they both had the Jamie Lloyd storyline and they were always on AMC back to back, but H4 is wayyyyy better than H5, and was underrated for a long time until some years ago. Honestly, I love this franchise but as I've gotten older I've been trying watch them and forget my attachments and biases towards certain movies, it's not easy! 😆 i used to be weird about 6, watching both versions the past few years with new eyes i totally get why it's so watchable even with it's flaws, 2018 i just love and I like it more and more everytime i watch it, i used to associate 4 with 5 because it always played back to back on amc during halloween, so because of that and the mask i always thought it stunk...watching it as i got older i was like, wait whoa! Where was this movie?! I was totally wrong about this movie!

Different Take I’m the exact same, I say the same thing as you in my own ranking of the movies that my ranking tends to go up and down through the years as I appreciate certain things more with different movies. 6 was the scariest of the franchise for me for a long time even though it has MANY faults, and I actually really disliked 4 for a good while but over the last few years I remembered how much I loved it as a kid. Particularly with stuff like the rooftop chase scene and that ending with Loomis screaming.

I can completely relate because I have H6 pretty high up even though the story is all over the place. I just enjoy watching it so much and I even made my own hybrid cut. Hey what's up KF fam! Thanks for callling it out! Yeah, I think it's time us as movie buffs/fans/critics/ to start recognizing when we like a movie isn't great but we have a preference for it because of a technical reason or because we're emotionally attached to it for a number of reasons. That's awesome that you did your own H6 cut! Unfortunately i blame Akkad for H6's problems. As crazy as H5 was before reshoots, the director had Michael killing Dr. Death killing after he brought him back to life in the opening, so they wouldn't have had to explain the mark of thorn or the man in black or anything. But Akkad thought H5's original opening was too weird and too much into the occult, so he had the director change it. Good list! We're almost identical! H3 would've been way higher on my list if it was objective. Looks like the only thing we really disagree on is H18. Other than that they're pretty close!

Different Take I have a few problems with H18 but I do like the movie. My biggest issue with it is that it felt so much like H20 to me, so I didn’t think it was that original. But ever since Kills and Ends were announced I’ve been thinking I might like it more after this new trilogy is complete and I’ll be able to judge it better. If you’re interested in seeing my H6 cut I could message you the link on Facebook. If not, no worries. The movie isn’t for everyone so I don’t expect everyone to devote their time to watching a fan edit.

@@DifferentTake Well, honestly I like H1 and H2 pretty equally. I give the slight edge to H2 for a couple reasons. I like Dick Warlock's portrayal of the shape the best out of the entire franchise. His slow, almost robotic movements come across as very unnerving and eery. I also like how the whole movie is set during night-time and the hospital setting is just super creepy. I think the chase between Michael and Laurie is on par with the first film. The ending with Loomis sacrificing himself to take out Michael at the end is great. Idk, I'm just very partial to this film.

Also without question the best movie theme of all time! 2. Halloween 2018: They nailed it! 3. Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers 4. Halloween 2 (Carpenter's) 5. Halloween H20 6. my issue with H20 is that Scream 2 was CGI'd on to the girls dorm room tv...so the Scream franchise exists in the Halloween universe? when in Scream Halloween gets talked about and they say Michael Myers name too...weird choice. my Halloween run down is pretty much the same as your list too-great video.

I agree with you in 2018, people don't realize how hard it is for writers to make a good sequel without going to far in any direction. They did Michael Justice in today's world, while managing to create something original. That's what should matter. It's better to want more after an ending, than to have had enough.

John carpenter despised the fact they made this but he would've been froze out of residuals so he drank a 12 pack of beer each night band sat in front of his typewriter and forced himself to write a few scenes and composed the music. Heard he directed the ending sequence and the part where cowboy hat kid with the boombox runs into him and you kind of follows him in that famous over the shoulder shot as he walks out towards the hospital.

true. JC did reshoots to up the gore because of all of the movies that spawned from Halloween. i didn't know he added more suspense too. if that's the case, i wonder the original cut looked like...yikes

I almost go movie for movie with your list and agree 100% that the people whining about 2018 looked for things to complain about all while defending the H4 mask and wooden Myers! What Rob Zombie did to Loomis in his H2 should ban him from this franchise for life! The only change I really have is I put H2 1981 as #3 and H4 as #4! But 78 and 2018 are the class of the franchise and with how violent Michael will be in Halloween Kills James Jude Courtney will no doubt be the 2nd best Myers of the franchise

Oh wow, I have a bunch of reasons but I'll try to keep it short. Plus it's my favorite film of all time! -Some say that it’s bad that the film doesn’t have Jamie go full on evil, it’s the same thing with Tommy in A NEW BEGINNING. The film does just enough by having Jamie be ostracized by the town as evil. -The twist with killing Rachel deep into the movie works well, a) she’s a likable enough character here and in RETURN and b) she lives just long enough for the audience to believe she’s safe from Michael -Tina is often labeled annoying, which I disagree with because while she’s a bit much - she’s also deeply sympathetic and protective to Jamie which I find to be heartening. -Up to this point in the franchise it's the most pissed off Myers we've seen

@@DifferentTake Halloween 2 felt more consistent with the first film, like a extension, you could watch them both as a 2 part movie. 4 seemed unnecessary, and since they were gonna go for an anthology franchise, fans just wanted the same thing over and over again, so they brought Michael and Loomis from literal death just for $$$. The mask was terrible and it felt a bit more action focused than the first 2. No Laurie Strode either. Wasn't a bad film though, still a fun film to watch and one of the more likeable sequels.

True. I feel like H1 is it's own entity and different movies and timelines can exist and branch off of that one so it doesn't restrict creatively what they can do. I personally feel like H2 only feels consistent with H1 because of Dean Cundey's DOP, if you take that out it doesn't feel like H1 at all. It moves reallyyyy slow-too slow, Laurie's hair changed in the same night (wig), Michaels mask turned yellow and he walks slowwww as molasses, and it retconned the H1's story with the sister angle 🤬. I agree with you about H4 being more action focused than horror focused, and he mask was terrible. As far as H4 being unnecessary, I'll say this: when it comes to great ideas or great characters in horror films or any films for that matter, there's always a story to tell and a demand for those stories. Not a lot of people care about retread sub-par horror villians. Yeah sure money plays a part in it, it's a business, but to me, stories are stories. It's like, imagine you're around a campfire telling scary stories and you come up with a good one one night, after so many nights of telling the same story it starts to not be as scary, you start to tell more stories, but it's like "tell us another story about the boogeyman in the white mask! Yeah! Give us a new one of that one!" So when it comes to "sequels" or different visions, i say why not. My feeling is, when it comes to film or anything involving art or something creative, there should never be a creative cap or limit. If someone wants to do their version of what they think would've happened following the original film, i say why not.

I do like him walking on fire, and continuing straight after the original is a plus too. JLC, Donald Pleasance and cinematography definitely contributed to it feeling like a continuation more than anything, at least that's my opinion

@@DifferentTake well the problem with the Halloween 2018 is its decisions of story following. None of the entries in the franchise (except the original) is either believeable or logical, the only purpose is to give the audience a good time and hell of a fun. Halloween 6, for example, despite that it has one of the stupidest storylines and plot credibility in the franchise, it has a GREAT atmosphere, a style (whether you like it or not), a creepy Michael and cool scenes to watch, overall it's a good film. Halloween 2018 lacks all above, it doesn't give you an atmosphere to feel, the cinematography is totally basic, the soundtrack is bad, the editing is safe, the story is absurd etc. To bring the original protagonist back to the franchise, there must have been a BETTER excuse like it was in H20 (a good amount of PTSD symptoms, a new life, a character who's been moved on since 20 years and such) rather than having her preparing for the final battle for 40 YEARS exercising shootings. Yes. I hate it cause it was dissapointing.

I was on board with your rankings until you placed Halloween 2018 as second best and failed to understand why so many people have problems with it. It's a poorly written film. There isn't much to not get about the issues with it. Over half the runtime is spent with characters that serve absolutely no point to the overall story, the script struggles horrendously to bring Michael and Laurie together again, and it does absolutely nothing new or innovative whatsoever. You may like it for its fan service, but it's not a good movie at all from a technical standpoint

😂i swear the sheriff in H18 wore the black hat in reference to the man in black 😂 personally, i liked the Sartain twist because it wasn't really a twist, he was showing hints that he was obsessed with Michael but in the opposite way, he was coddling Michael. It made sense because he was the anti-Loomis. That's just me though.

😆 i think they tried to give little nods to all of the halloween movies as a sign of respect because they were "ignoring" them with this timeline. I think they also know that some fans really like some of these movies so they wanted to acknowledge them in some way. Yeah 4 has slowly become one of my favorites. @@DifferentTake In my head cannon, H4 was the last we see of Jamie Lloyd. Much happier ending for her that way. Loomis too. Seriously though Loomis going completely insane at the end of 4 would of been a far better send off for the character imo then what we got with H6. Dont even get me started on Jamie lol

Agree that Halloween 2 is extremely boring... Hard for me to get through it even though it's a good movie

It has moments, but it's a real chore to get through. And i have no agenda, i used to love H2, it used to be my #2 when i was younger. It wasn't until the past few years that i took the nostalgia glasses off for a second, and i realized how much of a drag it was.

Nice list. I honestly can argue too much with it. I'm glad you put H3 in the middle of the pack, it's underrated but it's tough to rank it against other halloween movies. It really stands on it's own.
