From the original trilogy's beloved arc of Luke Skywalker’s rise from a humble farm boy to a hero that redeems his father and dismantles the Empire; the flawed prequel trilogy chronicling Anakin Skywalker’s tragic fall and the destruction of the Galactic Republic; "The Clone Wars" series. And thousands of novels and comic books that added more details and offered deeper dives into the galaxy’s lore
When Disney acquired "Star Wars" in 2012 for a hefty $4 billion, it sparked a fresh wave of anticipation and anxiety. From the moment Disney signed the deal, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, aligning with Disney CEO Bob Iger, sidelined George Lucas's original vision and dismantled the expanded universe.
Under the leadership of Kennedy and Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni, Star Wars has seen a transformation with the Sequel Trilogy and Live Action shows that many find disheartening. The franchise, once a beacon of intricate storytelling and character development, became a breeding ground for "live-action con jobs" and "Mary Sues."
This is epitomised with the newly released Disney+ series The Acolyte, brought to us by Leslye Headland, which is quite possibly the worst live action Star Wars property made by the flailing production company and the focus of our discussion today.
In essence, The Acolyte is symptomatic of a broader trend within Disney's Star Wars: a deconstruction of the elements that originally drew supporters to the franchise. For original fans, the series and the current trajectory of Star Wars-feels like it's moving away from them, reshaping a once beloved universe into something unrecognizable, where the magic of the original lore is lost in translation under the new guard’s vision. This transformation might cater to new audiences, but for many long-time fans, it feels like the Star Wars they grew up with is fading away.

Galen Marek was never canon to begin with. If you recall, in the DLC, he replaced Vader (forcibly, by Palpatine) and was sent out to kill the Star Wars heroes, from Obi-Wan in Mos Eisley and Luke Skywalker on Hoth, to Chewbacca, Han Solo, and Leia on the Forest Moon of Endor. Hell, he even killed Boba Fett in Jabba's palace! NONE OF THAT WAS CANONICAL!

The beginning of this video captured the heart of the problem. The Star Wars George Lucas created was tying into universal mythological concepts most of humanity historically loved and still does. In our “modern” age the powers that be are more interested in sexual orientations and destroying concepts like “a good side” which is a perversion of humanity’s shared history, our shared mythology, thus alienating the majority of viewers because they don’t identify with a world where evil is really good, and a persons identity profile is the most important thing in the universe.

This is absolutely NOT the worst SW show. Book of Boba Fett was much worse from a fan standpoint. That weird rambling uncharacteristic continuation of one of the biggest characters in the SWU was a kick in the fan balls. Obi-Wan was equally disappointing and had just as many baffling decisions made (if not more). The high $ cost is from not locking everything down before filming. Look up any marvel production and you can see why everything is so expensive because they agree on something then change their minds at the last second on any number of things from costumes to story point and everything in between. All that is spent on vfx to fix and correct those last min decisions and reshoots to change entire chinch’s of the story leading to a big budget and uneven and confusing pacing and tone. 8:21

Just because it’s a different perspective of the force (the witches don’t have jedi training/knowledge, shock horror I know) does not mean it is contradicting lore. Whip sabers have been in lore since the 80s. The “new” species have been around since KOTOR and an EU novel from the 80s.

I genuinely feel sorry for the guy playing Sol. He's not a bad actor. He was a fan of the Prequal Trilogy, and his favorite Jedi was Qui-Gon Jinn. In fact, he was hoping to recreate Liam Neeson's character for his own by copying Jinn's behavior and mannerisms. He tries so hard, and he's in a show as terrible as this. He deserves so much better than what he got.

I cant say if he is a good actor or not (apparently he learnt english just for this role which is pretty cool), maybe its the writing and the dialoge or the directing, but he has just one expression, on vocal inflexion and tone. In half of his scenes he is saying a semi suprised ''OSHA'' with a deadpan worried face while walking towards something, and he has the same delivery for both exposition and reaction scenes in my oppinion. I would say he is being told what to do, the directors are asking him for something like ''intensity and tension'' while what he wants to go for is, as you say, the calm and collected but still focused Qui Gon. Lets hope it gets better from here and we can see what he can do.

We also can't forget the fact that Jedi generally don't train students after they reach a certain age. Osha, is about as old if not older than Anakin was in Phantom menace but the Jedi are keenly interested in making her a Padawan? Anakin was an exception and a begrudging one at that. It's like they didn't even do the bare basics in their homework and watch just the original movies before writing this tripe. Then they wonder why the fans are rejecting it like they are.

Dune 2 released earlier this year to massive fanfare, Amazon is working on a 40k show that if successful could push the universe well into the mainstream. Meanwhile Disney has spent over ten years making terrible decision after terrible decision with star wars. You've had a few hits of course but the franchise is just not able to pull itself away from corporate cynicism and a lack of any love put in to their products. Now Star Wars actually has competition I don't think it's gonna be a financially successful franchise for long. Maybe one day some other company will buy it out and some fan will get the reigns similar to Denis Villenueve and Dune but I don't think we're gonna have any decent star wars media for the forseeable future.
