This makes me rethink stores like Party City and Spirit Halloween. Fun fact: I worked at Party City during the Halloween period a while ago, and it was DREADFUL. The costumes are complete trash, and lack creativity, and nevermind the awful parents rushing in at the last minute to get whatever’s left for their little monsters lol. I’ll likely never shop at Spirit Halloween or Party City again. (PS, if you’re in NYC check out Halloween Adventure and Gothic Renaissance!)

Love what you have to say here! I used to manage one of those pop-up stores and part of why I left was because of how disposable everything was - not only the crappy costumes but the employees. Miss a day? I was told to fire them. I did it because I love Halloween, but it really sucked the joy out of it. I did it for 2 years because I needed the cash, but never again. I would always try to put all the awful costumes together in "cultural appropriation & racism corner" then do my best to get people to avoid it. So gross. I did have fun when a mom came in with her daughter, who wanted to be goth for Halloween. The daughter and I were having fun picking out some 'cool' stuff for her and mom was complaining about how weird goths are. She slowly started noticing that my hair was actually dyed those colours (not a wig), my piercings were real, etc. Mom turned bright red while daughter and I giggled at her. I like to think that young girl is now driving her mom crazy and rocking an alternative look! And to end my long ass comment - yay Toronto folks! I'm new to your channel and it's always nice to find 'neighbours' on KZbin :)

I don't know why it took me almost a month to watch this. Please more ranting videos!! Also I entirely agree with you and Miss E. My favorite Halloween memories took place with costumes from indie shops who put soul into their wares. And they smell timeless and alive, whereas pop-up stores smell like toxic fumes. Besides, Halloween needn't be only one day a year... Awaiting your next video! The eye shadow here is transcendent. It all is transcendent. Eye shadow, rant, gloves, all.

Kylie Taylor this year I went thrift shopping for a costume(Heather Chandler from Heathers) and was so much cheaper, looked accurate, and was better quality. I made a scrunchie, a croquet mallet, and made my hair look like it was from the 80’s. It has been my favorite and most accurate costume I’ve worn. The best part was I spent a total of 25 dollars and it was actually comfortable.

YES! I would smash that like button 1000x if it were possible. Those pop-out store costumes are tacky garbage. My Halloween costumes are a mixture of stuff out of my closet, thrift store finds, and a couple of items from a local party store. And I recycle them for a different look, every year.

I totally agree with your points. Was never real fond of buying costumes at those stores (especially their wigs), they just look so cheap and basic.

I’m not goth I’m kind of normal dressing but with autism, but where I am from there is a small craft store they went out of business a few days ago so I feel you!

St. Louis is lucky, we have a year round local costume business called Johnny Brock’s Dungeon and they do rentals and they sell contacts but you have to be cleared by an eye doctor first

These are very fair claims to the pop-up Halloween stores. I wish I had a local costume shop, because I'd be there like every day. However that's not the case for me and many where I live. Though I did spend money at a spirit of Halloween, the quality of what I bought wasn't TOO bad for the price, however I'd be lying if I said it was great. I do agree to support local businesses though. Just wish there were some that were local to me.

I agree with you 100%.. Miss E's video was from LAST year... and it would have been nice if you had posted this... MAYBE in Mid- September. (And) not 4 days before Halloween.... just say'in. (Day late.. Dollar short)
