Thanks everyone for watching and for your comments! I'm interested to hear what you think we missed. There are certainly more Goth looks I would have included if time/budget was no object. What Goth Styles are your favourite in this video? And which ones did we miss that you wish were here?!
@thenekomimi38563 жыл бұрын
You missed taking criticism into account. In the original video, there were plenty of comments and videos made explaining what could be done better or what could have been replaced with something more appropriate, but none of that was applied. You're only listening to the small echo-chamber and taking any other statement as an attack when it's not. Remove styles that didn't stem from the Goth scene/already have their own separate subculture and include music that is actually Goth music. Many of the styles were influenced by Goth musicians. Perhaps then these videos wouldn't be misinformative to the still active music subculture that Goth really is.
@LiisaLadouceur3 жыл бұрын
@@thenekomimi3856 Thanks for stopping by! This comment was very informative. In all seriousness my videos are about the evolution of goth fashion. If you're judging them based on goth music you will be disappointed. And if you don't see the many changes we made between the original and this that did in fact take criticisms into account. I don't know what to tell you. My work isn't and has never been for the elitist purists who don't evolve.

I honestly hate when people spout "Goth is a music subculture," it completely erases us Literature Goths. Goth is Music, Literature, and Fashion, and these circles constantly overlap. But you're not any less Goth if you're exclusive to one.

In fact, I used goth style as an excuse to put on makeup before I came out. It was a scene that celebrated the frivolous and obscure, and at the time I felt like a monster. Goth clubs felt safe, even if getting there was always a bit of an adventure. People looked at me stupidly or even called me names. In the scene I also learned how diverse black can be. There were many styles and unique individuals that I will never forget even though I didn't exchange a word with some of them. It's a pity that there is no club where I live now.

The music is kinda wrong, why rap? Should've featured goth rock and other subgenres of goth music. Because the music definitely matters. Without it, we wouldn't have a modern gothic subculture. But I do like the diversity being shown here and the different ages and sizes of the participants.
@roxyvail58993 жыл бұрын
Goths can be any race and can listen to any other genres they want. Non-racist Goths listen to rap all the time. Shitting on ethnic genres isn't the flex you think it is. Evolve with the times. Goth has tons of POC influence, especially modern goth - including music.
@LiisaLadouceur3 жыл бұрын
You hear a rap track. I hear a spooky industrial gothic metal track with rapping on it. I loved the way it captures the mood of 2020, to match the modern fashion styles. But then again, I'm also not offended by mixing genres. Music is how I got into this whole subculture and it definitely matters to me and I love introducing new songs to people in my videos. But I would argue that a huge percentage of the modern gothic subculture has little to do with gothic rock or other traditionally goth styles of music. A whole generation has come to this through fashion alone or other visual inspirations and they are equally interesting to me. Thanks for your comment and for watching.
@ravenzombifiedbunnykitty22193 жыл бұрын
@@roxyvail5899 I'm not racist. I love poc goths and all our lovely gothic folk. And I didn't say that you can't listen to other genres, I listen to metal and punk and regular old rock, as well, of course as goth music because that's what makes you a goth in the first place; there are other aspects too but that's the most important part. Just like listening to metal makes you a metalhead. And being a fan of punk rock is a must to be a punk. Other wise, you're just a poser playing dress up. The 90s would call you out on your bullshit, but nowadays people can't take it. And no, I'm not an elitist, I just take the origins of the goth scene very seriously because it still definitely matters and people disregarding it is just down right disrespectful.
@antlessa70123 жыл бұрын
@@ravenzombifiedbunnykitty2219 👏🏾👏🏾I'm black myself and don't worry I 1000% agree with you. Linking this with racism is totally dishonest. There are tons of POC musicians who produce incredible goth rock, deathrock, post-punk and dark/coldwave. (I don't include industrial/"cyber goth" or gothic metal because these genres have nothing to do musically with goth for me even if some bands are exceptions or played in parties). They are goth because they identify with the history of our subculture and they have this sound. They can even add rap and they will still be goth bands. People who enjoy goth music can listen to everything they want in their lives, there aren't defined by this taste, but goth will not be everything because you label it as "goth". As an example, spoken Word isn't rap because there is an history and common influences behind this type of music. I think that we have the right of wanting people to respect the history of the type of music we like. I'm in my twenties, but I think that this is the base of the strength of a subculture. Why for other music genres the debate isn't open and in the goth subculture we need to accept the fact that some type of people don't want to learn and to respect the base of the subculture?

I’d definitely add the cowboy look that was pretty prominent around’84(?)-‘90 inspired by Sisters/Cult/Fields of the Nephilim in your next video. Though, the Cult added the Indian/First Nation element, I don’t think that’ll float as a look anymore. The cowboy thing also starts to adopt/evolve into Steampunk I guess, which you did document. For a few years there, there were definitely leather/suede jackets with the fringes, cowboy hats and cowboy boots. Anyway, fun videos, brings back lots of good memories.
@LiisaLadouceur2 жыл бұрын
I agree! I included this in the original 40 Year's of Men's Goth style video and got flak for it - but I distinctly remember the cowboy/Western influence for Gothic Rock bands in the late 80s. Never thought about the connection to Steampunk before but that makes sense. Thanks for watching!
