I prefer the masks in Halloween 4, 5 and 6 over 2018, Kills and Ends.. Being since everyone is currently high off the hype and critic's riding the wave paid to promote these new movies as the best since the original. A lot of new fans actually believe this regardless of all of the overlooked cringe.. Halloween H20 was once critically acclaimed said to be the best since the original, but now its one of the least ones fans talk about and even trash it. H20 did have one of the worst masks, 4's mask is underrated actually... The new masks in Kills and Ends looks like they been pooped out of an elephants butt. A crossover between Rob Zombies version of Myers mask and Leatherface. And they constantly want to take his mask off when it's best not knowing what his face looks like. The only shot of his face should of been left in the very first film. After that director's force us to be interested in seeing his face Even Michaels mask in Halloween Resurrection is better than the mask in the last couple movie's.

Carpenter caught lightning in a bottle. He had a serendipitous moment, with an excellent crew, and cast. The idea is simple, and the biggest thing that the original benefits from is the score. Carpenter is a master at scoring his movies. The shots, with Michael watching, stalking just out of sight, as a few perfect notes from a synthesizer go off, in what is an anti-jump scare. The movie has jump scares, but it also had music cues, that give a chill, alert us to what’s about to happen, or not, and the movie’s low budget, would’ve been much more evident without it.
@chasevids142 жыл бұрын
Short answer: laziness, to make a quick buck and cash in on a popular franchise at the expense of accuracy and love that went into the original. As much as I love 80’s movies, executives really had a field day with beating a dead horse. Films that were inspired by Halloween like Friday and Nightmare upped the stakes with bigger body counts and gorier kills so Halloween had to match that because it was popular at the time. It’s really a case of when your idols become your rivals. Lots of kills and gore work well for those franchises but not Halloween. What made the original so great was the simplicity. When there are excess budgets with money flying left and right it can sometimes go into the wrong places.
@Mer0lk2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, laziness & greed. The make-up/costumes on Freddy & Jason kept the quality or even improved(Friday part 7's Jason looks amazing!), meanwhile the studio making Halloween sequels couldn't even get a simple mask right and it looked worse and worse for every sequel(maybe minus Halloween 2).

I agree I think it's the fact that all the others have some personality. The animalistic Jason, The Maniacal Chucky and The dream demon Freddy all have a personality trait that sets them apart. Mickael though is the polar opposite, he has no personality and is just a pure embodiment of evil. There's just something more frightening about that. Knowing that when you look into those eyes, all you'll see is your reflection. The supernatural elements too like not dying, being able to vanish and being insanely strong without providing an explanation (when they do it removes part of the appeal which is the mystery surrounding him, is he just a man or is he more than that. That's why for me it doesn't matter who wears the mask and boiler suit but only matters that they are wearing it. Also the fact that he doesn't kill for a purpose, he doesn't kill out of defence, he doesn't kill because he likes it, he doesn't kill out of revenge. He simply just kills (aside from Lorrie). Michael will always be my favourite slasher villain. And I won't complain when they milk the franchise because I just like to see him on screen again. I'd love to see Jason and Freddy return one day too. Freddy especially if they can find someone just as amazing as Robert Englund.

I think H20 was a great but i really think it would have added to the story and Laurie's paranoia that she had to abandon her daughter and Michael went after her 3 times until he succeeded in killing her. it would have added an extra layer of Both paranoia and her protectiveness to John
@hashbrowns7188 Жыл бұрын
Tbh that would’ve made Laurie a terrible mother. Why abandon her daughter but keep her son? Also a plot point in H20 was that it was unsure if Michael had been alive all those years. In 4, Michael was known to still be alive since they were keeping him alive at the sanitarium. A lot of the Thorn trilogy would’ve had to be retconned in order for that to work, it was probably best to just ignore them completely.
@travis_mitchell2 жыл бұрын
Always viewed the Thorn Trilogy as canon in H20, before I knew it was supposed to be a retcon. Not only did the comics connect the two, But H20 contains several references to Thorn trilogy, including Laurie’s car crash from H4, and showing a picture of bloody scissors on the wall, either being the ones Jamie used in 4, or the ones Michael used in 5. The script contains a scene in which those events are referenced, and the writer himself, Robert Zappia, even stated in interviews that the intention always was that the Thorn trilogy was canon, and that Jamie’s death was part of what motivated Laurie’s overprotection of John. Watching the films as one continuous story, it just makes Laurie’s behavior make more sense when the previous 3 films are accounted for. Also, Michael and Loomis surviving the fire in two separate timelines feels stupid. Knowing that Michael escaped in H6, presumably to never be seen again, Loomis going crazy after the Cult ordeal, having to be taken care of in his final days, Just makes a lot more sense. As Loomis didn’t go crazy in until the end of H4. The character he died as, lines up with the character we ended H6 with, not the Determined and logical Doctor we knew in H2.

@@DepressedRabbit20 In H20, it’s a random cop who says “That was like 20 years ago” In response to the idea it could be Michael. And the other cop doesn’t respond. That can be taken as the younger cop just not knowing the full history of Michael, and exaggerating, Making it odd the older cop would even assume it was Michael, as it has been 20 years. Unless of course, the older cop know Michael has been seen much more recently than that. If we’re to go off the Producer’s cut of H6, The last person seen wearing Michael’ Myers’ costume, was Terrence Wynn, And it could be argued that people assumed he was a copycat. However, for the fairness of the argument, we have to go off the theatrical cut. The last thing we see is Michael’s mask on the ground and Loomis screaming. Michael is presumably gone, leaving only a hospital full of dead cultists, including Terrence Wynn. In Halloween 5, Michael is briefly arrested, but for whatever dumb reason, his mask is kept on. It’s safe to assume that given how quickly Wynn shoots up the station, That not a lot of processing was done in terms of records. But it is safe to assume, pictures would’ve at least been taken upon his arrival, And a description. The crucial detail, being, *The Mark of the Thorn on his Wrist* Flash forward the the crime scene in Part 6. Police will find the dead bodies of cultists, Including Wynn, And will also see that he has a very distinct feature on his corpse: *The Mark of Thorn on his Wrist* Sticking to the logic of these films, It’s safe to assume the police would pin the murders of the last 3 films on Wynn and the Cult, Loomis sounding crazy trying to prove it was Michael, but no one believing him, As there’s no real record anywhere to prove that Michael didn’t just die in the ambulance crash in Part 4, Loomis’s persistent involvement and apparent instability, lending credence to the conclusion that Michael wasn’t involved.

If she did believe she watched him burn, She wouldn’t have needed to fake her own death, And Loomis wouldn’t have needed to die going insane. It’s a matter of their fear not letting them accept he’s gone, And also to not acknowledge the past. If Laurie can completely change her name and move across the country without anyone finding out, A few news stories from a small town in Illinois likely wouldn’t make it to where she is. If anything, The headlines would be focused on a cult trying to take over the town, Michael just being lost in the mix as one of its many pieces. And coupled with my theory, It’s just that people didn’t think it was Michael doing the killings.

AMC used to play these constantly when I was a kid. Therefore I love them lol. Are they a mess? Absolutely! I remember never knowing the difference between 4 and 5 because I would only catch 10-20 min of both movies here and there . I’ve always thought it was pretty cool that the two bleed together so well I couldn’t tell the difference. Even though I was just a kid that’s still a pretty cool thing idk maybe I’m just nostalgic for these . Sure wish they were better planned and small shit like the masks were consistent but oh well. The 80’s were fucking wild man

That black and white shot in Curse, of two men taking Michael away and putting him in the back of a van, is accidentally hilarious. The framing and blocking makes Michael look like a dopey trick ‘r treater getting taken to his parents.

Shocking opinion, but I love the Thorn timeline. It's my favorite timeline and H6 Producers Cut is my second favorite Halloween movie.

I had a mad crush on Lori's 2 friends in Halloween 78. The girl that said "Linsey Lester's barking & getting on my nerves again" *sighs* Annie was her name, & the Blonde. I was born in 1990 & I think 70's bell bottoms looked good on women. Jamie Lee Curtis wore them good when she was banging on the front door for help when she knew Michael was pursuing her. 70's bell bottoms, those are something else. I'm a 90's baby, & I'd time travel to the 70's if God allowed it. 😂😂😂😂

Although, I understand it was the 80s…I’m not sure WHY the original look of the mask would be so different to recreate?? Not that it matters, to ME, as Halloween IV and V were my favorites!! I was around “Jaime’s” age, back then, and she was an INCREDIBLE actress!!!

Halloween 4 is still one of my personal favorites in the series. It’s the film that I rewatched the most during AMC’s Fear Fest movie marathons.

I was never a fan of Halloween bc my first one was H20... on TV. Being young and lost on the backstory, I think I just dropped the franchise. Only recently have I gotten fascinated with the backstory and convoluted timeline shenanigans.

It's funny how the quick description of 4-6 at the start almost perfectly describes the new trilogy too. Lol. Just love when people retcon films out of existence just to repeat their mistakes. Same thing happened with the Terminator Franchise.

These are my feelings on the these three films, plus H20. Halloween 4: I really like this movie, and it might be my favorite sequel, second to, perhaps, H20 (mainly because of how amazing Jamie Lee Curtis was in that). The premise of Michael's survival worked enough for me to not have to suspend my disbelief too much. The music was at its best since the original. Donald Pleasence provided a phenomenal performance that felt like a continuation on the idea of fate established in the first Halloween. Danielle Harris and Ellie Cornell had an authentic, sisterly bond, and really sold the terror. Beau Starr's Sheriff Meeker is criminally underrated. When you first meet him, his behavior and reception of Loomis suggests he always knew this day would come, thus sharing in Loomis' fatalism. The opening, use of silence and music, and the look of the movie feels authentically Midwestern and autumnal. This is especially true after the power goes out, and the way the moonlight reflects off the darkened houses and Michael's eerily whiter mask. I liked the lynch mob angle, and the shootout. The series should have ended right then and there, at least for a time. Side note, and I know I'm going to get railed on this, but I actually like the Halloween 4 mask on its own terms. The whiter, featureless, less human quality about it is really creepy. It looks ghostly, or otherworldly, like something thinly trying to disguise itself as human and not quite hitting the mark. The original is still number one in my heart, but the mask in this movie is my second favorite. Halloween 5: Pure bullshit. Pleasence, Harris, Starr and Cornell - completely wasted. Halloween 6: This movie was a mess, but I prefer it to 5. Like 4, it feels authentically Midwestern and autumnal. The cast is really good, especially Paul Rudd. Some great shots include Kara Strode walking backward through the Myers House, in the dark, as he follows her. It's the lighting. Mrs. Blankenship's cool/creepy story about Halloween coupled with shots of Rudd walking through the cold at the Halloween festival. That's pretty much it. In my mind it almost feels like a standalone film, and I treat it as such. Halloween H20: This and four are my favorite sequels, followed by the original Halloween 2. I think it would have been better if they had ended the series for ten years after Halloween 4, and then do H20 with Harris having found and established a relationship with Curtis, rather than giving her a son. Harris was still acting, and would have been about the right age. You could have still had Josh Hartnett, and Jamie's sister could have still been alive. After H20, series should have ended entirely.

H20 is one of the worst. I can't believe how bad that duped the soft in the brain fans

5 is just about the ONLY sequel to pay any respect to the motif of the '78 classic. For people who appreciate the original...there is not another film in the series that comes as close to replicating that approach as Halloween 5. Halloween 2 and 4 are good, but aside from them, there's hardly anything that's even worth MENTIONING...

Donald Pleasence running around with the gun in 4 is my spirit animal! And Danielle Harris gives the best child performance in a horror film ever. And I know everybody talks about the 4 ending, but I think the ending of 5 is just as desolate

I loved this trilogy of movies because of how kooky they were. Halloween 4 is my personal favorite movie in the franchise. Halloween 5 is a goofy b movie messy that’s so bad it’s good and the design of Michael in 6 is the best in the franchise for me as he’s built like an NFL player and the mask is dope and that movie has the best atmosphere of October in the franchise. I love the thorn trilogy despite its issues and I go back and visit a lot vs the rob zombie remakes that are garbage in comparison.
