hallway closet organization & declutter! (realistic cleaning motivation)

tackling my apartment one space at a time, this time.. the hallway closet!

The biggest deal changer for me is to not have spares. I have the one item I’m using and just buy a new one the week before I’ll run out. It was a difficult mindset adjustment at first. I used to have the panic feeling of running out. I can’t get to the shops easily either. It’s taken about a year but I’ve finally got there. I now store so much less stuff. It’s easier to clean. I just plan in my mind for what I’d do if I run out. For example my soap can actually double as shampoo if needed. I’ll use dish soap to clean work surfaces if I run out of surface spray etc. I realised it’s not the end of the world.😊

Good going on the closet. I live in an apartment as well and it can be challenging finding the balance between having enough of what you need and fitting it into the limited space available. Don't let mean people get to you, although I know it's easier said than done. You're putting yourself out there and that's brave.

Awesome work it looks so much more functional. We recently did our storage under our stairs which was an avalanche so it’s good for us to see our spaces and helps calm the mind. Also that dust was nothing and I also have 2 cats 😂

I fold up my sheets and one pillowcase and put it in the second pillowcase, rather than try and fit it all in the little case they came in. Then everything is contained and I just have to grab the bundle when I want to change my sheets

The dryer rack can be hung up high in the closet with a 3M hook. Love those 3M hooks. ❤

Someone might have mentioned it already (too many comments for me to read) but there are toilet brush holders waaaay higher than the one you showed. I know a version that is like a long pipe with a bottom and a lid with a hole in the center. The handle of the brush goes through the hole and a pet would have to knock over the whole thing, then pull out the toilet brush to be even able to reach the bristles. If you have tried this already and it didn't work, than maybe you could build something pet proof that can go next to your toilet for the brush. But there are really some other options than puttin it in a walk in closet (maybe a tiny closet for it next to the loo could work).

That's a good system! I just wad up the bottom sheet and then neatly fold the flat sheet and wrap the bottom sheet in the nice, neat flat sheet. I still get the tidy looking set in my linen closet and I dont have to get a frigging PhD in sheet origami. Pillowcases are folded separately because I like to mix and match them.

I feel the same way with that wasted space on top shelves in closets! I use tall clear bins from ikea for my closet’s top shelves and that satisfies my spacial needs! The bins are aver 2 feet tall and hold my sweaters and bulky jackets and sweats …. I hate wasting space! Your closet looks great! ❤👍🏻 good job!

Ou dont need to stock stuff - that is what stores are for. Eventually everything goes on sale anyway. They could also be out of use by the time you get to use them.
