Not always. In canon Covies win ground, air and especially space. In game for some reason they overpower human weapons like the scorpion. I guess it's to make people feel like humans are strong so they play more but realistically humanity would be obliterated. The only reason humans even won the war was because the Elites broke off and wrecked havoc inside the covenant (and of course the Spartans)

No one would in any normal logical society but 343i had to make Humanity seem like the top dogs even reviving dead worlds saying they were never glassed. Basically, the Scorpion is superior. Shouldn't be surprising. The projectile flies faster, and doesn't arc like the mortar. You pretty much can't dodge it, and the Halo 3 Scorpion is fast enough to out-maneuver any mortars that come its way, unless it gets too close. The only way you'll lose in a Scorpion is if you miss, and AI don't miss.

I think the only thing that wraiths are good at is long range attacks (in the video, many of them were going for tanks far away) and due to plasma tech, I think they'd be better for taking out squads of marines.

Hokiebird428 True, unfortunately the Scorpion isn't that great in multiplayer (against any halfway decent team). It's too slow and gets plasma stunned too often at which point it's easy to board or blow up with grenades. Absolute beast in campaign though.

In real battle, AI controlled wraith can stay far away from enemy targets and attack beyond visual range with the mortar, they dont have to approach the enemy. But it is difficult for player controlled wraith to shoot far targets accurately because this game have no artillery aiming mode. It works like the SPGs（arty） in WoT, provide indirect fire support behind. I think this game need an artillery aiming mode for player controlled wraith.

The Wraiths are not using the hills to their advantage... they have mounted plasma "mortars" which are meant for firing over obstacles, behind cover. Elites are my top favourite characters, but even as great space battle strategists they just want to get up close and personal in the ground battles. Silly Elites... for honour and for glory! if a wraith hits, they are more powerful than a tank shot. sadly wraiths in the games always had bad speed and was better at close range (would always hit where you aim, but target would probably see it coming and move.) but in multi player matches were op if you knew how to use em. infantry. ntm a single wraith can do damage to several tanks at once if they r clustered.

The only time the Wraths seem to get an advantage is in tight spaces and first shots. The one time the AA Wraths won (and a Scorpion decided their people needed them) was when the battlefield happened to have the right amount of wreckage to make it difficult for the Scorpions to pathfind, while Wraths could strafe around the wreckage. Fun fact, I designed a Invasion Slayer map where the Spartans only had 2 Scorpions, and the Elites had 3 (there were other vehicles, but focusing on tanks), and the Elite side of the map had tons of wreckage to hid behind, and the Spartan side was pretty open. So basically, if you want to win Wrath vs. Scorpion, you have to wait for the Scorpions to come to you, or take cover behind objects, where the plasma cannon's firing arch can give you an advantage. It was pretty balanced, as I also gave both Spartans and Elites good classic Star Wars Battlefront-like loadouts. So, there was never a situation where people were spawn-screwed, since they could spawn with rockets or snipers, but each loadout was balanced accordingly. Spartans didn't have any cloaked classes however, and giving the Elites a couple of clocked classes helped a ton to balance the combat. I can give you a full list of classes, if you'd like.

Most human weapons go insanely fast (hitscan if I'm correct). Yet the Covenant weapons shoot so slow. In reality, Covenant technology should theoretically be better. Stronger, less recoil, and faster than bullets. The Covenant Wraith always was a joke. They need an actual vehicle to counter the Scorpion, one that's less suited toward mortar-type shots (Wraith) and more toward shooting straight (a tank).

Realistically if it were actual wraiths like in the lore they would do much better as they would keep a distance and fight smart. The wraith shot arcs, it's not meant to take on heavy armor face to face. They would shoot from afar with cover unless it's infantry. The scorpion fires fast, direct shots that are easy to hit. This is an AI battle so a socrpion ai is better but whether they would win in canon is a different story. And Anti Air wraith my ass those things are dangerous on the ground. Those took out a whole squad of scorpions one round. Those shots are too slow and powerful to hit fast air targets they should stick to ground fighting.

Well Wraiths basicly are like mortars, good at shooting at infrantry, less so against tanks....AA-Wraith is much the same, except ofc is designed/suited at targeting air targets as well. Covenant might had the edge with their ships and plasma weapons, but Scorpions are vastly superior to any Covenant land vehicle, except the Scarab.

The issue here is that wraiths would be decently effective if they had the ability to target and fire on targets that are not in line of sight. Like I would think Wraiths might have the technology to be able to see through a hillside and get the coordinates and elevation of an enemy vehicle on the other side of a hill. The other option for the Covenant would be having forward oobservers relay enemy target location data to the Wraiths in hiding allowing them to set the correct elevation and velocity to successfully create an arcing mortar shot that should connect with the target area on the other side of the hill without having the Wraith ever being exposed.

It's a glitch that happened in Halo 2 and can be exploited very easily by hitting the tank with an object (most often while in a wraith) in the center directly underneath the tank. There was no advantage of this glitch in matchmaking since it was easier to just use weapons. In Halo 3, they did a much better job at keeping this glitch from happening... though it still happens from time to time like in the video. In this video the tank ran over an object and hit the sweet spot and flew away lol

So what did we learn? A fast moving, ballistic based weapon is superior over slower moving, energy based weapons. Breaking formation and charging in alone is an excellent way to get yourself killed. Focusing fire/Concentrating firepower kills the enemy surprisingly quickly. The Convanet-well just the AI in general-has no idea how tank warfare works. That this all the time we have class. Study your notes thoroughly. There will be a test tomorrow. Dismissed.

I like to call the AA Wraiths "Reapers" At least they were able to win a match. I see the Wraiths keep going in piecemeal, scorpion beats wraith 1 v 1 but the wraiths AI goes against the scorpions 1 at a time making 2 or 3 scorpions vs a single wraith with predictable results.

Yeah no contest. As much as I love Wraiths, Scorpions are infinitely superior. Lightning fast projectiles, no arcing to worry about, tougher armour and is more agile on rough terrain. Only thing Wraith has going for it is a short speed boost and the mild advantage of maybe hitting a target from behind cover thanks to its arcing shot. Out in the open though, a Wraith will become its namesake quick

The two vehicles are designed for two different things. Scorpions are true anti-armour, they're designed to take out vehicles quick and hard. That's why they tend to beat the crap out of wraiths. Wraiths are more like siege engines, designed to pummel static defences. Or vapourise hundreds of fleeing civilians in your genocidal war. In an open battlefield against other tanks, they're out of their element.
