There is one and only one way to play Halo 2 on legendary: Plasma pistol, and, ideally, a battle rifle. I had played through Halo Reach, Halo CE anniversary, Halo ODST, and Halo 4 on legendary. Halo 4 in particular 3 times. When I finally got an old copy of halo 2 (this was before anniversary), I had set out to complete the entire series on legendary, and all that was left was 2 and 3. Halo 2 legendary is an absolute nightmare. I spent 2 months banging my head against a wall. The only progress I had made was to get through the first quarter of Cairo Station, and get stuck in the room with the boarding craft where you first get grenades... I found that landing direct hits with frag grenades, and sticking with plasma grenades on red, silver, and gold elites, multiple times in a row in quick succession, would usually not only fail to kill them, but often fail to take down their shields. At one point, I chucked all 20 or so grenades that are up on that landing at the same silver elite, and it ALL failed to take down his shields or kill him. He kept recharging in the time I'd go back and grab more. The devs had buffed elite shield strength into the stratosphere (as well as buff all other enemy AI stats to ridiculous degrees, and nerf yours into the ground). As much as I love halo 2, this is genuinely awful game design. I spent months stuck in that one spot. Why? Because I detest plasma pistols. I just think they're a silly gun, and hate using them. It took a while to hit me, oh yeah, overcharged plasma pistols knock down shields. I had assumed up till this point that their shield stats were so high, using a plasma pistol also wouldnt do much... But I hadn't actually tried it. Sure enough, hit them with a plasma pistol, takes down shields that previously could take multiple plasma grenades, and then a couple follow up shots to the head could kill the elite.... What the fuck. This isn't fun bungie, it just corners your players and forces them to use one and only one cheese strat that takes advantage of a gimmick. It basically made your secondary slot pointless as, if it didn't have a plasma pistol in it, you're wrong. Halo 2 legendary is the only campaign where I EVER main'd a plasma pistol, and only because it's practically the only choice. I would honestly consider Halo 2 Legendary, no plasma pistol, to be up there with Lasso. My bud didn't believe me when I described it, so I brought my XBox over to show him since he hadn't played Halo in years. I told him he can't use plasma pistol... He got to the spot where I got stuck, and within 20 minutes was about ready to break my controller. ... And that's before getting to jackal snipers, with perfect situational awareness, .3 second aim time if so much as a foot is sticking out of cover from 300 yards, and a one hit kill on the player no matter where they hit... Why?... Just why?... This isn't difficult, it's unrealistic and borderline impossible. Once I started using plasma pistol and got past Cairo Station, rest of the campaign felt more normal, outside of HAVING to use a weapon I hate. Most of the rest of the campaign you can just run past enemies straight to checkpoints. Only other time there was an issue was killing the prophet half way through the game... Holy fuck that was retarded. That was way worse than the final boss, which doesnt even make sense. By contrast, reach's legendary campaign is how to ACTUALLY increase difficulty without making it completely unfun. Reach, instead of just buffing or nerfing enemy vs player shield, health, and damage stats, they instead put a ton of effort into increasing the INTELLIGENCE of enemy AIs. It was uncanny actually, I witnessed a few elites in that campaign almost behave like players would. This meant that enemies were difficult to kill, but not impossible, and actually killing them was an achievement because they didn't just have huge health pools to whittle away at, they are actually cunning.

This. Fucking, this. My friend and I had been going on a all halo games on legendary run from reach to 5. We hit halo 2, and found both of us landing consistent hits on one red elite with headshots AND grenades was only enough to crack the shield before it killed both of us in 5 secs. Reach made enemies hit hard, but not THAT hard, and mostly just us using teamwork and tactics got us through, where we would sometimes provide constant fire by taking turns reloading and shooting and we would throw our grenades one after the other's. Our teamwork and bonding ment jack fucking shit in halo 2, so after 6 hours of that damn mission we just turned to heroic with some skulls on. Halo 3 legendary felt like a mild breeze when we got to that.

If I could give you some kind of reward for this comment, I would. You described how I feel about H2 Legendary to a T, and frankly this is why I have no interest in playing through it on Legendary. I'm sure some nostalgia-blinded "true fans" will slither in here and tell you how wrong you are, how it's actually "fair" and shit like that, but that would just be them being them. I love Halo 2, but objectively speaking Legendary is absolutely ridiculous and if 343 handles Legendary in the same way in future games, we all know the aforementioned "true fans" will be flaming them for it and saying how "ridiculous" it is and how it's "bad game design."

I 100% agree with the title. Halo 3, was incredibly easy. Too easy, I loved it tho. I love all the Halo games, mainly the first one is my favorite. But 2, they definitely stepped it up again and the campaign was just so badass and challenging, in a great way. Love Halo, probably gonna buy it again and play now. Love the vid Charlie!
