Follow along as I install recessed Halo LED 4” down lights. These lights are readily available and in my opinion the best lights you can chose for your project because they are UL certified with great features. I will be installing 157 down lights in the cabin and I’m excited to show you some great lighting details. Halo is the #1 leading lighting brand. These lights are dimmable, with very wide flood. Also IC rated for direct contact with insulation - great for fire safe trusted lighting. 790 lumens with 50,000 hours. They can be used in any ceiling with airtite certification. Driver box is repositionable and 2” depth makes them great for shallow ceilings.

Thanks so much for the support. This lighting series is going to be lit! I’ve got 157 Halo 4” recessed led down lights. There is a couple features that I’ve not seen before on the next couple installs!

Thank you for this. The electricians working on my reno are so nervous about placement being correct during rough in and wanted me to get standard cans but nope- so I marked the floor and the closest joists for them 🎯 it’s simple measurements from the wall and from each other so I’m not worried - just trying to calm their fears!

Great video. A couple of questions, how much space between the lights? Hard to tell from the angle of the camera. Second, what do you think about using the install plates, defining the layouts and mounting the drivers before the drywall? $5 each seems a bit expensive if you have a lot of them, but the argument for them is you know exactly where the lights are going to be (if a joist etc. is in the way) before covering them.

Spacing of lights depends on the room you want to light up. In this video I need a lot of light in that room so I used 6 spaced about 3’ apart. In a kitchen with 4” lights I would space 4’ - 6’ when making grids in the ceiling. I like a lot of light and then I use dimmers to adjust depending on mood. Better to have more than not enough. The plates are good. I don’t use them because I usually don’t cut the hole until I’m done mud and tapping. If you use the plate the drywallers should cut them as they install because it would be hard to drill and hit the perfect spot after. I hope that helps! Happy diy!

Are the drivers also IC rated? Sometimes the fixture is IC rated, but the driver is not and needs to me mounted on a joist or rafter. Clean work though

Can you also use those black notches for the wire? I also like these lights
@ConstructionCoach

The black notches are great to use, they are called Romex traps. I like to use the knockouts because it keeps the wires together. I think it is easier to feed it through the hole. Thanks for watching!

use the drill in reverse, its much smoother and goes through the drywall easily

Why do you need to anchor the boxes, can't they just sit on top of the sheetrock? What's the big deal?

Thanks, but unfortunately, 4 3/16 in hole saws cost north of $180. You can get 4 1/8 hole hole saws for $25 and 4 1/4 hole saws for $16. I sure wish that the engineers who design lights etc... would consider the availability and cost of tooling in their design decisions. Why 4 3/16 in?

I used a Kobalt 4 3/8 hole saw with the dust shield from Lowe’s for about $25 and it worked just fine. No slop and fit the hole cut perfectly.
