So many people forget that the Multiplayer is ALL THIS GAME HAS TO OFFER. The campaign is really nothing special. And there are absolutely no other features that a Single-player could do without playing online multiplayer. This game should've had at least local splitscreen, so that people could play the campaign and play custom games. Or, give custom games some form of bots. You HAVE to play this game with other people online. Otherwise, it isn't worth much.

I'm just sad that the campaign didn't deliver the "Hunter becomes the hunted" feel that they tried to convey in the trailers leading up to the game.

same, I was really looking forward to switching between Locke and chief more and actually trying to hunt down the chief rather than what the story did. I think if they would have made the main story in this game in the background and locke Hunting the chief in the foreground with more combat than one scene it would have been a lot more enjoyable, within my opinion.

It's just that the trailers and marketing for tha game made it feel like Chief was going to search for "the truth" or something like that while not wanting to really get involved in fighting and stuff while Locke was going on this huge mission to bring Chief to justice. I don't know, it just made it seem like a lot more than it actually turned out to be.

My older brother and I have played every Halo campaign Halo 1 through 4 and Halo Reach. We LOVE every single one of them. Alongside this, I always invite my friends over and we do 4 player halo split screen. It's VERY fun! None of my friends have Xbox Ones so we can't play Halo 5 together at all.

+marsnail2 So, don't bother watching the ads then? Maybe I'll enjoy the campaign more that way. The main thing I'm worried about is the multiplayer. They really screwed it up in Halo 4. With the loadouts and hardly any weapons spawning on the map... and the few weapons that do spawn on the map has a marker that appears to let everyone know where it is. Also the ordinance thing was dumb. At least in Reach you could set up a match that doesn't have loadouts.

awesomeman1223 Not to mention the maps have no character to them. Every map feels like the same person wearing a different mask. In the older Halo games, every map was different and unique. They had their own character. Some maps had this weapon. Some had others. With 343 putting a small amount of weapons on the map and putting markers for the power weapons, it is just ruining the game for me. Not to mention the maps are all designed around competitive play. We don't have any maps like Last Resort or High Ground with vehicles in them. The maps of old played differently from eachother. The Pit was different to Construct. Now every map feels like the same meal of bread. Just made with different kinds of wheat. Also, the biggest culprit for me is the fact there is no Social Slayer. That is the biggest failure for me. I will never play Halo 5 Transactions ever again.

SalsaSpartan7 The marker for the power weapons I think is a great addition. It PUTS A HUGE infansense on power weapons again. Which is what halo revolved around which is control of the map and the power weapons. And that is stronger than ever in Halo 5. NOW I do agree that we needed more maps like Last resort and High ground and more map variety. And I agree we should have a social slayer. We should also bring elites back for social big team and a supposed social slayer. Bring dual wielding back as well.And I think make the maps a little more spaced out. But some maps like Overgrowth and Regret were pretty solid maps . Plus the forge maps were FANTASTIC if you played custom games in them. I don't like warzone and would rather have a more focused on social and social big team slayer maps and just drop shitty warzone.

awesomeman1223 I agree. Halo 5 does put a bigger focus on power weapons more than any other Halo game. But, for me personally, I don't like it. Because it announces their arrivals and has markers for the power weapons. I liked the older days where You were rewarded for knowing where and when they spawned. I don't like how it is now a mad dash and camping spot where the power weapons are. Lesser skilled players didn't know this information. Now, they see it and don't worry. 343 put the markers there for the Call of Duty noobs. So they could find weapons on the map because they are so used to spawning with them in a loadout they made prior to the game starting. Map control and getting the Power Weapons were always important in Halo. Halo 5 is just more adjusted for it than any other Halo Game. If you like it, then that's fine. It's not wrong for you to like it all. I just personally don't & I thought I would tell you why. If I could have a hand in the development of Halo 6, I would remove the markers and audible cues for their spawns. I think Warzone is alright. I personally prefer Big Team Battle over it. I just hate how req's are the means to unlock cosmetics and customization items. And I HATE hearing Palmer's voice all the time. I hate her enough already. And I am not a fan of the forge maps. I just think it shows some form of mismanagement or laziness on how some of the maps in Arena are just remixes of other maps and all the Big team Battle maps are all Forge Made. But whatever. It is what it is. If you enjoy Halo 5, more power to ya man. As for me, I am going to go play Black Ops 3 and Battlefield 4. Halo is dead to me now. I am not excited for Halo 6. I am more excited for Titanfall 2 than I am for Halo 6. I dunno man. I guess I ranted on for a bit long. I just miss the glory days of Halo. And I want things to be better. But whatever. Enjoy Halo 5.

This is like when they added Kai Leng form the novels in Mass Effect 3 majority of fans that only knew the series thru games where confused on who that guy is and why Anderson know him so well. Also Spartan II's are not really the most sociable characters with the exception of Kurt 051 in the lore, Chiefs conversation with Lasky in Halo 4 is pretty much the actual conversation you can get with an spartan II.

2xucan I knew the story of halo 5 is poorly told, honestly I'm a bit disappointed because by playing mission 2 I already you can see the plot of the game without getting to the big reveal in the end, I'm just pointing out the con in which said it has some weak characters, characterization of the Osiris is actually amendable but Blue Team get the short hand of the story because 343 depends so much on the lore on the books that sends the message if you want o know more about blue team explore our extended lore thru the books and live action halo series. And honestly Spartan II's are not the most sociable characters in the halo universe.

I loved halo 5 tbh, the mehanics that they added created so much pathways for tactical play. I felt faster, stronger, and bigger in halo 5 and it is primed for pvp. I wish the story mode didnt involve locke. I didnt care for him or his team, except for buck from odst. I felt like the missions should have been 20% locke 70% chief and 10% arbiter.

Halo's campaign was the REASON I fell in love with Halo. MP was fun, but me and my best friend in high school would play the campaigns over and over again. It seems in the review they just say, "Yeah, the campaign is a letdown, but who cares?!?! MP rocks!" This is so sad to me. I don't read the books, and I never will, so I didn't understand anything that was going on in 4 and it's obvious I won't in 5. I don't want to spend hours/days of my time reading Halo lore just so I can understand a video game campaign, I just want to be able to pick it up and understand what's going on. Oh well.

I'm surprised that this game received such a mixed response, if I'm honest. I mean, the campaign wasn't amazing, but lack of story and character development were the only problems that it had. The actual game-play was still fantastic, and there were great set-pieces and battle-moments, like in every Halo game. Sure, story-telling is something that Halo is known for, and it's something that people would want - same for me, but that's not everything that makes a Halo fun. I mean, are there really that many people who feel inclined to play the entire campaign just for the story alone, and nothing else? Even if the game-play was a bore? Don't think so. My point is that 343i nailed the most important parts of the campaign. It just sticks out as being a bad one because it lacks the things that most other Halos (maybe even all of them) seemed to succeed with. Okay, so Forge wasn't added immediately, not that it's everyone's cup of tea anyway, but it got added in the end, and that's all that matters, yet people still try to hold that against 343i, and it's just like, well, what does it matter now anyway? Who cares at this point? If you really wanted it that badly, then the wait was worth it. So, stop having a tantrum? It doesn't make sense to list something like that as a con, at this stage, seeing as it's been added. The multiplayer is great, and let's face it: the multiplayer really is the meat of the meal, with games these days. Yes, even with a Halo game. The campaigns are always something that I would assume most people traverse to first when they play a specific Halo for the first time, but once you've finished it or completed it on Legendary, it's pretty much just the multiplayer that lasts until the next release. Warzone is great and makes Halo feel massive, because the maps are big, the games are longer lasting, there are bases to capture, the requisition system is very fun, different but well-designed, and with the mix of AI and players, there's a lot going on. Arena goes back to classic Halo, with classic game-modes (maybe not all of them are in the game at first, but the main and biggest ones are there), smaller maps, weapons spawning around the map, shorter encounter-distances, etc. And the maps are generally well-made, but what makes them even better is that they also accommodate for some of the extra combat features that Halo 5 added, such as mantling, boosting spartan-charging (mainly campaign, but still), and ground-pounding (or whatever it's called, that's what I call it :P). There's a lot here to keep one going, and that is the same for a lot of people. It's just that the older a game-franchise is, the harder it seems to get slammed for making small mistakes that don't affect the game as massively as other people seem to think it does. No game is perfect, not in a general sense, and Halo 5: Guardians is no exception, but at least 343i were honest in the holes that they needed to fill and actually put some of the missing features into place. On top of that, all of the DLCs and updates thus far have been free, and I don't believe that's going to change for the time that this game is supported. The game has strong points, yet people are so quick to aggressively point out the weak points, and then leave. Having said that, Halo 5: Guardians is apparently the most popular since Halo 3, so it's kind of weird that wherever you go, practically everyone is shitting on it. Kind of makes you think that most of the trash-talkers probably play it anyway, which wouldn't surprise me. Gamers these days seem to have really unbalanced opinions about games, such as only slamming a game for its cons and ignoring its pros. Almost as if they can't admit it when a game gets something right, and that they just want to hate it...

Wow, over two years ago now. I stand by these points for the most part, but looking back, I can definitely understand why people were a little upset at some of the things that this game lacked. A lot of Guardians' shortcomings were things that were typically nailed in past Halo games (plot, characters, Forge mode, etc), so I can see why people might've been a little frustrated. The Halo series is extremely prestigious and worshiped by many, so it makes sense that people take this kind of stuff seriously.

My first experience with Halo was getting an Original Xbox for Christmas and Halo: Combat Evolved with 4 controllers. Me and my family spent countless hours playing 4 player split-screen and it was the birth of my affinity for the series. Since then I bought every collectors edition, I displayed them proudly and lined up for every midnight launch... Upon Halo 5's release my local store didn't offer midnight launch as they always did, my collectors editions of Halo are packed away and I didn't see the need for another addition. When I played campaign with the same people I always played campaign with, we weren't in the same room, attempting to clock the game on legendary in 1 night. Now when my mates come over and see me playing Halo 5, they ask to play along and I say "sorry you can't"! Halo 5 is great but it's just not the same Halo it was all those years ago...

my review: *Spoilers ahead* Love the new gun styles for the promethians, they feel more like their own identity rather than just reskins of classic guns. Also disappointed that the grenade launcher/sticky detonator didn't make it back, but am happy to invite the plasma caster into the fray. Second, Story. While i haven't been able to complete due to a bug that keeps crashing the game, the story is very good. I got the concept that these are lifelong friends of the chief, without having to read any of the novels. I also enjoyed the return of some familiar characters, but i feel as though the return of Cortana was a little forced. As in, we could've had this huge story of Chief abandoning the UNSC to search for some remnants of Cortana for Halsey to piece back together, but instead she's alive and well and beckoning john to come over to her side. Multiplayer, fun as heck. Like the new ranking system for each mode, Warzone first impression left a bad taste in my mouth but I'm sure a couple of more times in there will lighten that. However, map design is a huge issue for me right now. Over half the maps are just reskins of old ones, and some seem to be calling back to the days of Halo CE in terms of graphics *cough* Guillotine *cough.* One very big thing i was disappointed about was Warzone, they hyped it up to sound like team slayer along with firefighting from halo reach/ODST. Instead AI enemies just spawn in groups at different locations around the map and just wait for someone to come kill them. That for me was a huge buzzkill. The last major complaint i have is no forge. Seriously, Halo reach had a great forge system and they improved upon it with MCC. Now with no forge it just seems like the basic multiplayer shooter with a good campaign. Overall i rate it a 7.5/10 merely because of the lack of content. I still love most of the content that is in there but it just feels lacking compared to past halo games.

When i picked this up at gamestop the employee asked me if i wanted to get it on xbox or pc. I kept saying that halo isnt on pc but she kept insisting that it is and she had been playing it on pc. The way it's told is good enough for me. And since when were big enemies boss fights in games? The only thing I would considered a boss fight is in warzone, the warden is just a big tough enemy in the campaign.

6.5/10, tops. Decent game. But compared to what came before, it's mediocre. I think its worst crime is that it isn't Halo--it's Call of Duty, or Battlefield. If the main story was good that might be redeemable, but a mediocre campaign that tries too hard to please everyone and takes no risks(Locke is 'Just following Orders', Cortana, whose 'death' was so powerful in Halo 4 is back and better than ever, etc.) means that the game as a whole falls flat on its face.

I loved the campaign of Halo 5 it had a lot of Halo lore, but i think the problem was that most people didn't like it because of the strong lore it had IMO the campaign is 8/10 but your average halo player will probably give it a 5/10 or 7/10.

Been a halo fan since the beginning , personally I love the campaign of the halo 5 , multiplayer isn't as fun this time around tho , warzone just isn't my thing. And the maps aren't all that great. 9/10 campaign , 7/10 multiplayer
