@@gman2015z Depends on the studio, but gaming has become an industry that looks down on movies in terms of revenue. The way the moneymaking studios have done that is to create huge teams of developers who usually only work a few years before leaving, if that. They can crank out high quality assets well enough but coordinating the code on that many programmers is a nightmare, and the upper levels of management are constantly sweating because of shareholders. This results in a strategy that is really conservative on innovation, both for the sake of a continuous stream of revenue to please shareholders, and because it is difficult to get any decent talent or experience in your development team with their typical hiring strategy. However, it is still effective because massive numbers of people buy the games and they don't have to rely on "rockstar" developers that we used to know, like the id Software founding team, leaving the company and tanking the cash cow franchise.

Honestly if you think about it, back then it had the best graphics compared to sega and ps1 and the library was a mix of hardcore shooters, a few pc ports, and platformers, not to mention the plans to bring online multiplayer to it, which fell off unfortunately. If they had halo they'd be above playstation, and xbox probably wouldn't exsist lol.

I love the little details, like all the minions having Goldeneye-esque canned death animations, or the Warthog's model getting more detailed from closer up, or the little framerate stutter that always happens with old games when entering a vehicle.

I can't believe I'm doing this, but I'm gonna nitpick a bit. The N64 had native anti-aliasing and texture filtering support, so a lot of polygon edges and textures looked really smooth and non-pixelated, especially compared to the PS1. Seeing a lot of aliasing and a ton of unfiltered textures here killed the... "authenticity" of the video. I still love the video regardless. I wasn't expecting that SM64 reference.
@Fastman6984 жыл бұрын
Yes, my thoughts exactly. Can’t believe no one else is saying this. N64 games back then still looked relatively good graphically, in conjunction with their art style. Here, it’s just objectively downgraded in quality to the point where it’s not even believable anymore that it could be an N64 game.
