The MCC turnaround that began in 2018 is literally the only remotely positive thing 343 has done since taking over halo. I think it’s all been bad, ranging from levels of disgust and ineptitude that are unconscionable to nearing mediocrity, but MCC has improved and continues to improve at such drastic rates going on 4 years now that I cannot help but be impressed. They even just fixed Reach’s visual bloom to scale with resolution and they’ve made fixes to both classic Halo CE and 2 graphics that have existed for 15 years. Just excellent attention to detail and a focus on fixing things at the core rather than work on bandaids.

343's practice of hiring contractors for 18 months then firing them likely hasn't helped, either. If you have a live service game that is meant to be the future of Halo for 10 years, you want people onboard who know what's happening and don't have to learn the ropes every rehire. Yup they bring new people in with no experience on this bloated difficult and hard to program basic functions reliably engine they have for infinite. It’s the exact reason why they still haven’t fixed basic gameplay issues like Desync. Because everytime they try it breaks the game or breaks some new cosmetic they were told to add by next week. I was blown away when the devs were saying things like changing playlists and doing things like a service record would take them months to implement. Probably because they knew they would be there only to dump paid dlc cosmetics before anything else to make it seem like it was still a “live service”

From what I've been able to look up it doesn't seem like we're going to get any campaign DLC until at least 2024 which means we're definitely not getting it until 2025 considering the fact that almost every single thing that comes out of pretty much all of the Triple A Studios now gets delayed. Which really sucks for me because I don't really play online multiplayer. I'm an older guy (38 now) and none of my friends play video games. So I'll have no content for another 3 years at least. Lovely.

I’ve been playing halo since I was 4 years old and it’s always been my favorite game by heart. But things change and we grow older. It’s natural to want to hold on to things we grew up on. Sometimes you just have to not give a fuck and move on. I haven’t liked halo for the last 7 years, and it’s cost me time and energy and stress, but not anymore. Now I look at it I objectively, its just a game, its not worth any amount of stress, games are about the opposite of that.

I don't think it will get better. My problems with Infinite are not going to go away. The store will not go significantly go down in prices (not enough for me to be personally happy); the UI will continue to be slow and unresponsive because there is an obsession with a full 3D menu that has to be loaded; there's a lot of the system that discourages social play; forge was delayed from the release and; there is so much content I could not realistically get because 343 totally ignored the promise to have no FOMO in infinite. For my stance to change they would have to: stop vaulting content, let folks buy whatever whenever; add voip; stop trying to force the game to be a comp sweatfest (I like ranked playlists but even casual game modes suffer when comp is no.1 priority); make progression not solely based on challenges that make it so I can't play the way that I have fun if I want to earn anything and; release all of the features that have been in every game prior (for my stance on any future game to be positive they have to be there from release).
