Halo Infinite Story was almost perfect, it did have its faults but most of the issues I had were either very minor or could easily be fixed with the introduction of a DLC.

I think within the first hour or so they threw in little call backs to each other Halo game. Either a line a character says, the way chief shoots the pistol at the tank like the Halo 4 trailer, or when he opens the door and it really feels like he's going to say "to give the covenant back their bomb". It really felt like they tried to throw in a piece of each Halo

the ending definitely wasnt time travel, it was just the conversation that took place during the period displayed. the argument saying it was time travel since chief was gone for three days isn’t really solid, a counter argument to that is he was just gone, stuck between reality and the portal. teleporting in halo isnt an instantaneous action, it takes a lot of time between entering and exiting. that time was always skipped in previous halo games. (Edit ->) some more proof that atriox didnt time travel is the lack of a date during the non legendary post credits scene. It only shows up in the version with the audio

How. It’s similar to lightspeed in star wars. Sure it speeds things up but it still take a decent amount of time to go from A to B, many times starwars characters are doing things while in lightspeed. that’s essentially what’s happening to chief except hes in a limbo state and its over a long period of time(3days). Edit: ig its time travel in a technical sense sure. Like it does take time to travel from A to B. But not in the traditional way stories portray it

@@pipe2theface269 Depending on how it is actually explained it could be time travel. It could be like the original planet of the apes where the ship went so fast that time wasn't relevant in the same way it was to Earth. Or it could even be similar to cryosleep or a cryptum where years can pass on the outside without anything happening within. Even if they went this route I agree with you that Atriox didn't travel in time because the possible explanation I gave only applies to traveling forward in time

I think the game wants to present his hyper-focused dedication in a more complex light by showing the that it can cause him to conceal his intentions from others in addition to being as admirable as previous game in the series have established. It seems like 343's goal with all of their narratives have been to add new dimensions to what had been established in previous games, like MC and Cortana's relatinoship in Halo 4.

I want to point out that if people are saying the graphics are a downgrade they don't know the difference between graphics and an art style. Graphically this the best looking game in the series without a doubt. Artistically it's "simpler" than 4 or 5. It's far more akin to the Bungie era in style. Just because a game isn't "realistic" doesn't mean a game has bad graphics. Hell, I fucking love 2d pixelated sprites personally. That style is timeless. It will always look good regardless of time.

It seems incredibly obvious that infinite will have story expansions/dlc. They spent almost an entire console generation remaking most of the engine to support open world environments and real time lighting, for what, so they could just focus on multiplayer and never actually utilise the new engine features and story for the next 10 years? No. they're obviously planning something. My guess would be a kinda live service story that will eventually lead up to a rematch with Atriox or something

It's definitely a Live Service model, they want to support the game for 10+ years and the ending cutscene with Atriox does feel like it's referencing the Prometheans rather than the Endless, the Orange colouring and the music very much sounding like Halo 4. It would make sense that 343 would just want to copy & paste old assets and code straight into the engine as the multiplayer already does that with the armor assets ripped straight from Reach & the Unreal Engine's upscaled-versions for Halo MCC's menus likely acting as a proof-of-concept. Also, the game is literally called Infinite. As in Endless. That's why it's not called Halo 6. It's going to be chapters building on top of the Multiplayer client's install. The free-roam gameplay and environment generation very much lends itself to easy copy & pasting similar to how Assassins Creed or Call of Duty would repeat systems and assets for yearly releases. They could literally turn the game into Halo Minecraft with how their world generation could work for each chapter and it would allow for maximum dedication of the entire team to asset creation and cosmetic generation for the battlepasses

I have the opposite opinion. At the start of the game both the main badguys are already dead or dealt with. So we're just aimlessly wandering around a ring trying to survive. We get introduced to some new bad guys, in the Harbinger and she's trying to bring back "The endless". Which is cool, until you find out you learn NOTHING about any of them. So basically you're caught between two major plot climaxes and you're just running errands. Imagine a new starwars movie comes out and it's about Rey finding a ship to get off of tatooine and going for lunch and when they reveal the antagonist it ends...

Now that you mention how Eschareum is a great foil to Master Chief, there's a certain genius to it on a meta level. Just like how they're grizzled veterans coming back to a changing world to cement their legacy and show they still got it, Halo is a grizzled franchise coming back to a changing gaming landscape to show the new kids on the block what its all about. I also love how they not only blended different interpretations of Chief, but in how they show this blend. Reach did a lot of its characterization through excellent mocap and body language. Infinite seems to take this to the next level where you see the different layers of Chief from Halo 4 and the lore in his body language but what he says on the surface is mostly what Bungie was going for.

I'd have to hard disagree about it being perfect :P To me it came off like Rise of Skywalker. A reactionary pivot relying on nostalgia to get back in some fans' good graces. Everything interesting they were setting up in 4 and 5 was relegated to "it happened off-screen months ago" and instead shoved things like brutes and monitors and forerunner tunnels and a smoother armor design to make you feel the H1 fanwank. The most interesting/intriguing thing 343 did was spend two games building up Cortana to be the villain and it's immediately handwaved away and replaced. I get some people didn't like it but I guess they're just too beholden to the comfortable formula. The game I REALLY want to play is the one we were only *told* about in holo conversations and (ugh) audio logs. Let me play the siege of the Infinity. Let me see chief vs Cortana. Let me witness and feel that betrayal chief must've been feeling seeing his best friend go off the rails. Give me the tragedy of hopelessness of the unsc vs an army of guardians. Not this trite nostalgia-bait because some people can't handle the story being taken in a new/different direction. I digress but, they abandoned their story just as it was about to get good all because some people whinged. I wasn't impressed with the story one bit :T

Atriox is a very interesting and complex character. He's not some villain that has some misplaced delusion of grandeur. But his origins stem from being fed up with the injustice him and his people faced at the hands of the covenant, and saying "No more". His only real goal is to lead his people. His character arch is much more similar to Arbiter's. He doesn't seem nearly as dumb as the other brutes either. He has a much calmer, more calculated, and more menacing demeanor. Which only makes watching him dismantle master chief more hopeless knowing he wont make a mistake to give Chief the upper hand. Just a great character.

Something about the game that you mentioned was how is John is more cold to the "Pilot" and The Weapon, due to Cortana's death. It actually makes sense when you think about it, as Cortana is all he had left of his UNSC friends from the original Halo era. Keyes died in the first game, Miranda was murdered by Truth around the start of third act of Halo, and Johnson was killed by Guilty Spark before being cremated by the exploding Ark. Cortana was the last remaining loved one of John's that we experienced the games with left and losing her has definately hurt him whether it be her intial sacrifice in Halo 4 or this game. Ultimately, one of John's biggest challenges he has to face is that he needs to start forming new bonds with his new companions. While the "Pilot" or Weapon can't replace the bonds he lost in the Human-Coveanant War, I feel that he is on the track to healing in some manner from the lost of his Bungie-Era buddies.

While I don't doubt the importance of Blue Team or Captain Lasky, when you think of John's friends you are more likely to think of the characters from those games rather than the extended lore or the 343 games. Halo Infinite has us experience our disatisfaction with the previous games with John, where we say goodbye to the original Bungie Buddies before moving on with the new friends he/we have bonded with on this journey.

How did the Banished get involved ? What happen to Halses a d the Arbeiter? HOW DID ATRIOX defeated Cortana anyway?? Its like a whole GAME is missing between 5 and Infinite. By the way infinite is ectremly repetitive and lazy we dont have any bin or epic moments, no scarap Fights nothig of a great scale just the Illusion of it. I Love the feel of the Gane mechanics feels like Halo but the Game is nothing special after 6 FULL Years of production time. They öiterally scam Microsofts money for years and created an half ass game as product plus wanted to make it an 10years life Service Plattform xD they reduced the KING of the GAMES to an Bargeld mediocre experience not worth to be remembered at all. The "Cortana..." line on my first playthrough had me think he was just about to say something along the lines of "Cortana went rampant, how am I supposed to believe you wont do the same" or "Cortana cause all of this, and if I had stopped her, all this wouldn't have happened." You get my point. Which is what I think they wanted the player to think during the first playthrough. On my second one however, I realised it was just as you said... He got so caught up in arguing with her he forget she wasn't actually the same Cortana he once knew.

A detail I loved in the story for infinite is the lines from the Weapon such as wanting to see the ring completed and saying how beautiful it is. These on the surface just seem like observations but to Chief and the player they could be seen as big red flags given what has happened to the AI in recent games. Making the players and Chief more wary and untrusting of her. I didn’t realize this was an intentional choice at first until Chief himself started the “Red Flag” delete sequence for the first time. I absolutely loved that moment and it showcases the great writing that went into making the players feel that way. Just a shame 343 dropped the ball with the rest of Infinites potential but we’ll always have the story.

The game is called Halo Infinite because that's 343's plan. They plan to support the game for 10+ years and the game being split installs between Free to play multiplayer and the premium Campaign shows that they will just add new DLC Campaign install modules which will probably add new weapons and features alongside them. The music during the ending Cutscene with the Orange colouring on the Cylixes seem to hint that the Endless are related to the Prometheans, and it would save 343 a lot of time and money to just copy & paste the Promethean weapons and enemies right from Halo 5, allowing them to cut corners like we know they love to

I really enjoyed the story, it has really strong moments, but it is also far from perfect for me, everything about the endless and the harbinger was really bad in my opinion. The magic of h1 was that you fight the covenant and start to figure out that there something wrong about what is happening with the ring and you gradually discover the flood. In infinite, 343 seemed to have nailed this mystery feeling but then appears the harbinger who has no background and yells everywhere "something worse than the flood, the endless, are coming" breaking all the magic of discovering them by yourself like how you discover the flood in CE. Plus who the hell are the endless, we never get to see them, we are just told that they are a serious threat, which is a terrible and the worst way of introducing a character thus breaking the rule "show don't tell". The harbinger also add a fantasy aspect to halo infinite that I personally hate so much, 343 always did that since h4 and it is awful, halo never had that low cost fantasy aspect with bungie games and it gives a very kid aspect to the halo's stories. As for the relation between chief and the other characters and the banished background and characters, this is really well done. To me this story is better than h4 and 5 stories and under bungie games stories which were not "kid friendly" and fantasy like. Appart from the story, this is clearly one of the best halo of the franchise.
@zucciniii1878
@zucciniii1878 2 жыл бұрын
You may think the harbinger is fantasy like, but with the theories relating to her and the legendary ending, plus the audio logs, she is very much si-fi. Currently it's most accepted that she is a version of the precursors, who are fantasy like also, but only because we know so little about them.

I hope if 343i gives us a DLC, they give us a mix of forests, frozen tundras, swamps, jungles, deserts, beaches and even some crazy space levels. Another thing that I would love to see is that instead of a map, they give us a GTA style minimap on the corner, but it's tridimensional, meaning it only shows us around but not entirely, so the exploration feels more organic, highlighting points of interest for future exploration in our endeavors and give immerse us more, kinda like the minimap that appeara on the seaglide in Subnautica

The leader of the Banished inherited a DYING cult. The most telling cutscene is when he is looking through the archives of the previous leaders, all with great feats and conquests. But the leader in Infinite? He knew he could never achieve anything close due to their dwindling numbers, he knew that it would be his name that would be remembered as the end of the Banished. The only thing he could hope for was to battle the one, the only, the legend, Master Chief. And he won. But when he found out that the Chief survived, he knew that was it for him, he was going to lose. He would spend the last of his days lamenting on his role as leader before finally meeting his end at the barrel of Chief.

Did we even play the same game? I went into infinite off of months of watching lore videos for halo, and was confused from start to finish as to what had happened between games. This game starts of with you in the middle of being attacked by the banished, after the previous had set up that no one but the created was a threat any more- with hundreds of AI turning against their creators, the banished should have become a footnote against the background of horror that is going on. Instead, you go get an AI helper, and Cortana is apparently dead (which saving her was the entire point of the last game) at your own hands, off screen. Nah, this game was good, but was trash for writing.

About the time travelling thing: I didn't get that from the end credit scene. It could just take place in the present, right? Though whats really weird is the little bit of dialog after Chief and Cortana teleport and they mentioned a time skip. Why have that here? There has to be a reason for that.

Given Halo Infinite is a "live service" last i recall, we might get more Story stuff, but we can only speculate at this point. If they don't then that is yet another squandered use of a "live service" model. On a small side note, i feel its worth mentioning that according to New Cortana when they jumped though that portal to escape the Auditorium they apparently also teleported 3 days which is a curious observation. Their is also a "Halo The Endless" that got copy righted or something. Also some have speculated Jaiga isn't dead, not sure if its just their timing on killing him or not, but he appears to just clocks leaving his sword behind. Their is also alot of reference lines that some of the marines say too, "wonder what the Arbiters forces are doing right now" for example, Fan service perhaps but makes ya think.

The way I see it, Chief sees his handling of Cortana in H5 as a failure. He feels like if he’d taken his own feelings about her aside and just put a stop to her, he could’ve prevented the untold destruction she would bring in between H5 and Infinite. So when he has the opportunity to delete Weapon, he doesn’t hesitate, as he is resolved not to let his personal attachments affect what’s best for the mission. I do believe Chief as we find him in Infinite would delete the real Cortana if she still existed and posed a threat.

Jul ma dama would have been cool to keep around. Maybe as a second enemy faction in this game. His elites being bulkier and heavier could have been explained as a separate elite clan on sanhilios (I know I spelled the name wrong) where the elites are bigger and stronger more savage like beasts and wild elites. But comes at a cost as the swords of sanhilios elites are leaner and more cut up and more intelligent and have a different code of honor in combat. They even each other out but the swords elites are still superior since there more combat skilled , faster , more calm and collective and also lead by the arbiter. This would have explained/mini retconed the bulky elites from halo 4&5 and gave us another faction to fight. I don’t know but I really liked fighting the elites in each halo game especially the halo reach elites which were the best in my opinion. and while I love the brutes I feel like the elites are kinda on the side in the banished there not really on the same level as the brutes even though they are around it somehow feels like there not at times. The biggest complaint I have heard for the campaign is not showing what happened with infinity and the battle. Some even call not showing what happened with infinity as bad writing I highly disagree. First it created a starting point for infinite but not only that it cleverly pushed out halo 5 story without making those games non canon or pointless it also made gamers actually invested and intrigued in that conflict which halo 5 never did for me. It creates a mystery that I was actually interested on finding out much like halo 3 odst where you piece what happened together. Though i will admit they used audio logs to tell what happened instead of the story doing that I dont like it when games use audio logs like that some could players miss them and miss a pretty important part of the story it's also annoying to look for them just to understand what happened. They probably also should have had the opening mission on the infinity as it was attacked could have been a cool mission and a call back to halo CE but not only that actually shown a bit of the battle and show how strong the banished were then after cheif fights through the infinity have the cutscene with atroix play. We would experience the beginning of the battle but not the result of the battle still retaining the mystery and the starting point.

explain to me if im missing something, but halo 6s opening was extremely confusing. i have played every main halo game(including all of 6), both halo wars, and odst. the endings of 5 and halo wars 2 didnt match up anywhere close to the beginning of 6. 1) how did MC get on the infinity? 2) how did the infinity get to the ring and why? 3) how did atriox get to the ring from the ark? 4) why did cortana go to the ring when she was on earth? 5) when did they make a copy of cortana and how did she get to the ring? 6) atriox was fighting the MC at the beginning, how did he die? 7) when did cortana die? all of this is never really explained or shown, it just happens. or more so it just happened, but we are being told it all. its worse than exposition. with exposition you get a few sentences to explain how everything went down. however in this it feels like we only get the last sentence of said exposition. it was really off putting. other than that the story was pretty good. however the lack of info in the beginning is awful. much of the questions i asked should have been shown or at least explained on screen.

From what I can answer. The master chief had been stationed on the Infinity for a while. He has been since 4. He helped the infinity with their escape from the didact in 4 then just stayed stationed on it doing random missions which is how he ends up at Argent Moon in Halo 5s second mission. Atriox is also not dead. He’s presumed dead by Escharum and the Banished but we know he’s alive thanks to the post credit cutscene. He possibly just left without anyone on the banished knowing. We don’t Atrioxs motives right now so I cant say for certain wether he faked his own death or defected or something Besides that everything else you said we don’t know. Hopefully it gets cleared up in a DLC at some point.

This game humanised Chief in the perfect amount. I am a firm believer that CHIEF CAN BE HUMANISED. But there is a wrong way to do it. There are a lot of Bungie purists who think that it fundamentally, shouldn't be done. Halo 4 I think humanised him in the wrong way, made him too talky, too outwardly emotional. It wasn't compelling to me. One major aspect of Chiefs personality to me was how much he cared about people through his actions, not his words or outward emotions. He'd always take care of his fellow marines, and do anything to make sure everyone got out safely. 9:53, you hit the nail bang on the head. This is EXACTLY why Chief is so compelling in Halo Infinite.

I thought the story was thoroughly uninteresting, but hey to each their own. At least it was a better story than the one in Raid: Shadow Legends.

I really hope they don't introduce time travel into the games. It's like writers admitting they have lost the capacity to create captivating and original continuations of a storyline. All other franchises that use time travel in storytelling end up not making sense or have gigantic plot holes. At least to me, time travel always ends up feeling artificial in the end.

I love when game finish, a new company picks up the IP, and then humanizes the main character

The fact that he said the 343 wrote themselves into a corner was the most accurate thing I e heard about halo in a fat minute still laughing over that one😂

I also like that the story felt like a murder mystery. Figuring things out as you go on.

Yeah i liked it but I can see why others don't, and I'm sure 343 wishes they could've done more in the in between time of halo 5 and infinite but I think they kinda wrote themselves into a corner with cortana as a villain and I don't think she would've made for a good game.

I loved the story definitely up there with 3 & 2 however I didn’t cry at the end and I wanted to lmao I kinda feel like maybe idk if they waited till we finally met Cortana at the end and she or our new friend told us what happened it would’ve been better for me? Or maybe if they had that classic piano music we all know and love that “never forgotten” song idk but I still loved it lmao

Yeah the end of infinite was great, but it definitely could’ve been better with a little bit better implementation of ‘Cortana’s theme’ (the pianos from halo 3) or something like ‘never forget.’

I disagree with your interpretation of Chief's attitude toward Echo-216. Master Chief cares A LOT about Humanity. All Humans. He would never use one as a means to an end or view someone as a way for him to do what he wants/needs. I interpreted his seemingly dismissive nature in the beginning as determination to get back to the mission and salvage what he could and do his duty. In the books Chief is conflicted emotionally when his mission has to take priority over the safety of other humans caught in dangerous situations. However he doesn't let the emotional conflict impair his mission effectiveness. He even finds ways to help those humans when he can find a way which doing so helps his mission. For example: Promising a pirating vessel to the children of castoffs in return for their assistance on Netherop in Halo: Oblivion. or Requesting support from Infinity to reinforce the settlers on Reach to hold a captured Banished outpost. You could argue it was necessary but he didn't see them as tools or something to use for is mission and discard. "Our duty as soldiers is to protect Humanity, whatever the cost." MC to Lasky onboard the Infinity, Halo 4 Master Chief's effectiveness stems mostly from his desire and determination to protect and help Humanity in any way. His augmentations and insane luck just give him an edge in purposing that resolve. Great video by the way. I loved the Infinite story.

The pacing, map traversal, upgrades, gameplay transitions to cutscenes in infinite feels like a first person shooter version of the God of War reboot.
