Far Cry 6 story was surprisingly really good. The writers attempted to keep things consistent from the previous entries but also tried not to make the game an exact copy and I believe they succeeded, and today I would like to share my personal thoughts with the story.

Anton Castillo's story was beyond phenomenal. Diego's conflict and relationship with his father was great. The protagonist was pretty good too. However, the actual Allied faction was formulaic and very uninteresting.

ok, at first i was pretty shocked by that ending and upset with the lack of choice that has been a mainstay in most farcry endings (ie: FC3, FC4, FC: ND) but after watching your video a couple times and seeing all those important cutscenes again, it's clear now that Diego did give his father a definitive answer during the dinner table Truth or lies scene before claras murder. Anton created Diego for the sole purpose of continuing his vision after his death, when he asks Diego if he is going to fufill his duty - Diego responds with "Truth or Lies?" and Anton says "truth of course" but thats the moment when Anton finally gets a real answer from Diego. it means it's over. If Diego really was going to uphold his duty to Anton, He would have just said "yes sir" but he didn't. He looked his dad dead in the eye and said basically do you want me to lie to you or do you want me to tell you the truth that theres no way I'm continuing your dictatorship.

What shocked me about the end was how little the rebel leaders gave a shit about a kid lying dying on the floor- instead they instantly started bickering with eachother and looting the place. While theres a kid dying on the floor. This left an extremely sour taste in the mouth and made me feel bad for hanging with all those characters to begin with. It made we wish there was an alternative to tell them all to go to hell, but no - instead the game ends with an epilouge were you get buddy-buddy with Juan Cortez. Absolutely tonedeaf writing.
@FraserSouris
@FraserSouris Жыл бұрын
@@Hauerization I think that was the point (minus the epilogue. I agree that was tone deaf). In Far Cry 6's story, a common motif was that Clara brings up that "taking down Castillo is just the first step. We gotta rebuild and heal Yara afterwards. That's the hard part". Clara is also the only other person that gets why Dani cares for Diego. She even brings that up as a reason for how they should coexist. That Diego isn't the enemy. Hell, even Anton technically isn't really their end goal. It's freeing and improving Yara. Basically, Clara is the heart and soul of Libertad and the only person that sees the humanity in their mission. Even Juan brings this up. That Clara is "the opposite of Juan" and that there are "way too many Juans, Antons and even Danis in the world. But there will never be enough Claras". That's why Juan even does his illegal trading away from everyone, including Clara. Because he knows that would ruin Clara's reputation. When Clara dies, the heart of Libertad died with her. Yeah, Libertad is still strong and skilled and smart. But they now lack the compassion and vision of Clara. In the ending, Dani sorta realizes this. When only he (and technically also Lucky) cared for Diego, Dani saw that Libertad now lacks the heart and compassion to truly improve Yara like how Clara would have done. That's why he rejects the offer to be the leader despite the support of everyone. Because Dani has the self-awareness to see he isn't much better than the other leaders of Libertad, and he sure isn't close to being Clara. The ending effectively is bittersweet in the sense that yeah, Libertad did win, but without Clara as the leader, things are less likely to really improve (I mean, they weren't guaranteed to improve even when Clara was alive. Clara herself admits to that. But the odds were still better at least).

Bitterwseet is a common theme amongst the FC-ending (FC 5 ending might be my personal favourite, were the gamer potentially ends up the equivalent of the antichrist according to somes scholars, very interestiong take). The problem with Far Cry 6 is that I wasnt sure if the character were intentionally ridiculous or if it just was due to poor writing skills. It's not really something Dani was ever gonna accept. Anton was desperate and grasping for straws (and as we see from that scene alone he does that a lot. First with Viviro then with Diego) Anton doesn't always have a good grasp on reality either. Hell it took Diego for him to realize Dani is the true reason for Libertad's success and there's a whole scene where he basically plays Hitler and Speer, redecorating his capital as it burns around him

I love how the cutscenes are third person, it helps us relate and empathise with Dani more than if every cutscene had a disembodied voice. Third person cutscenes always tell me that the main character does matter in this story, to the player and to people around her. If we never saw Dani’s face it would be harder to empathise and care for her, first person cutscenes make me feel like the main character, which I really don’t like. I don’t want to see everything through the eyes of the protagonist, because it’s their story. We shouldn’t always see what they see because we’re not the ones going through it, we aren’t there being kidnapped by pirates and cultists

@thejallenator5722
@thejallenator5722 2 жыл бұрын
I would slightly disagree. I’d say the choice of perspective depends on the character. With Dani we are in no position to empathise so the third person works, making them their own character. However with say Jason Brody I feel first person works as we can empathise more with Jason as we the player go through the same journey. We both start as powerless in a strange foreign land we don’t understand but grow to be a battle-hardened and bloodthirsty warrior in tune with the island. I’ll also say with the characters first person is an easy way to build connection, I mean you straight up make eye contact with the other characters. You experience these characters in a way comparable to normal human interaction. Any interactions a character had with Jason felt more personal as they looked into my eyes and when they spoke to me. Tl;Dr: First Person can work best when the player goes on a parallel journey with the character and helps to establish a more personal connection with the characters around the protagonist. Also Far Cry 3 is still a great game.

I really didnt like that Diego never really made his choice. I was soooo curious. And also that the player couldn't choose. This ending sadly felt empty af, Bembe never appeared again (despite his relation with Dani's escape from Yara), the game made me think Clara or Juan were building up to be antagonists but Clara became a Martir and Juan became something like Dani's bff even tho he got Clara killed, neither Alejo or Lita got a proper burial even after the main story, Mckay's death doesn't have any impact on the story, Espada's brother never appeared again, there were no further details about Jonron's brother and his relationship with Yelena, that Guerrilla Diego punches doesn't have any relevance. Man i could go on and on, the game was fun and the story was enjoyable, but the ending was just a bumer A few days after finishing the game, I kinda made my peace with it, I just wished that Dani showed more emotion, it felt out of character for her just to accept Juan got Clara killed and didn't cared about Diego dying on Dani's arms, other than that, Dani walking away was a good move ("Yara is yours") but I wished we got to see her actually walking away from the revolution (All the characters she cared about died, she's seen enough or something like that) before saying something like "I got a few loose ends in Yara" so it leads to the player finishing the game and you know. I would really love that Ubi stops making the MC gender a choice, it kinda ruins the way the rest of the characters percieve Dani, same happened with Eivor to me tbh

One character brought down the whole story, and that was Juan. It wouldn't have been as bad if the character was able to (quite literally) tell him to fuck off, but despite going against Juan several times, we just accept that "ahh I see me when I look in your eyes". We defend Diego on more than on occasion when Juan would have just killed him, and yet we are still apparently Juan's protégé. The ending was the icing on the cake, with both Anton and Diego dead with Dani just content to split, Yara is left with a bunch of unstable lunatics at the helm - much like in Far Cry 4. Unlike your perspective, I don't see a lot of redeeming qualities in the other characters. Philly was fun, but beyond that they're all horrifically immature and emotionally unstable. I enjoyed a lot of parts of this game, but the ending absolutely killed any like I had for it. It's also very..."because video game" that Anton is suddenly so sick.

The last two missions made me hate Juan. I think he does care about Libertad and Yara. I think he's selling viviro to raise money for the cause. But I think he just enjoys the violence too much to care about the moral grey or the people who get caught in the crossfire. And he assumes we're just like him. That's why he accuses us of saving Diego to keep the war going. He assumes we just want to keep fighting, he can't understand that we might actually sympathize with Diego. He's so blind to Dani's actual feelings that the first thing he does upon entering Anton's office, is walk right past the dead Castillo's and a devastated Dani and steal one of Anton's Cigars, all with a look of smug satisfaction on his face. But in one short scene, they reveal SO much! They tease the identity of the mother (who you still don't know, but they dropped a hint), his back story about being enslaved himself, how he cared for his mother who taught him (notice the boy responds with "He's a a great teacher" showing Anton has continued this tradition) and his absolute indifference to what he's doing to his people for what he sees as the greater good. But then the reporter drops how he still has the blade from his enslavement. She's telling him how she knows why he keeps it (to never forget the suffering he endured) while confronting him about that he's doing the exact same thing. But the best part was were he did the most frightening thing a cruel dictator could do when you confront him...he made an excellent point. Specifically, about how America got its start and what it continues to do (all absolutely true). He made a great point about how we really don't care human about suffering (see where chocolate comes from, iPhones, etc.). The whole scene was chilling. Whomever wrote this had some series balls to throw this into the face of the very Americans playing this game. Up until that point, the player is the reporter; disgusted by the cruelty. It's a bitter pill to swallow to be forced to look into the mirror and be reminded why this county has all the nice things it does. And to cap it off, the ending was the best part. Because without even threatening the reporter, he showed her who really has the power and she'll take from him just like everyone else. Even better, the boy is the one who gives it to her. And we as the audience know, the boy is actually sympathetic to her pain.

I like that they got rid of the skill tree and went more for the mmo feel ( with the gear that has different perks). Love how the environment went back towards that far cry 1-3 paradise feel. Even some of the background music has an AC blackflag sound, which I also love. Is the game perfect, nooooo lol but in think it's a step in the right direction. It's a great game for coop ( especially for me and my fiance) and a nice change of pace from sweating in online multi-player. Thank you Gingy for the review. Cheers brotha.

I played Far Cry 6 about a year ago now, due to it having free play days, and I have to admit, I was enjoying for the most part, until the end. When I first experienced it, I believed I had gotten the bad ending. Maybe it was because I had killed too many people or I had made a bad choice in the past, but I then learned that there were only two endings for the game, the secret ending and the ending we get where Anton kills Diego. Which I'll be honest left me quite unsatisfied, as I kind of felt like we'd been through so much struggle and death for this revolution only to have it end in even more death and the end of a bloodline, which is why I believed I had got the bad ending. I will say that I did enjoy two of the territories. However, Talia and Poalo were the ones I didn't really enjoy, I understand that their missions were more about the propaganda part of the revolution, but I just didn't enjoy them. However, my favourite section was probably helping the Legends with El Tigre, I honestly think I had a smile on my face all the way through those missions. Overall, Far Cry 6 isn't a terrible game, as many people have stated. But I also don't think it's the best either. Anton was a good villain, and Giancarlo Esposito did amazing work, also side note, I think he even stated interest in doing another game for Ubisoft as he enjoyed working on Far Cry 6, so I hope we see him return in a different game or something. For me personally, I think Far Cry 6 is about.... 6 maybe 7/10.

Dani was a trained soldier that wanted to get away, but she got the revolution in her veins seeing what was happening up close and personal, while being able to stop some of it. Juan sums it up when he tells Dani “once a guerilla, always a gorilla”. They knew it was likely she would have the fire lit to earn her boat. It is right on the money with the fighter mentality. Well written.

There’s some good philosophy behind the story of this game. You see Diego starting to understand his father because of the revolutionaries violent acts as much as you see what they endure and understand their issue. Point being, violence begets violence and it’s hard to see who the good guy is or if there is one.

I'm glad I'm not the only way who felt this way. I think saying the story was REALLY good is overselling it a bet, but I definitely thought it was better than FC5's storyline was. Anton Castillo is right up there with Vaas and Pagan Min IMO and the dynamic with his son was quite compelling. I also did like most of the cast of supporting characters with a few exceptions to some of the rather cringy/irritating ones. Also, even though the game didn't reinvent the far cry formula by any means, it definitely did perfect it. That said, they definitely should shake things up more in the next entry at this point and risk trying something radically different gameplay-wise.

Great vid though I would also like to point out the dramatic irony in Anton’s main weapon. Behind its engravings and gold plating it is very much an m1911. A pistol used by the United States not only in WW2 but also the Vietnam war. The ladder taking place in the same era as the Cuban missile crisis. It’s ironic because he lectured about America’s mistakes and consumer attitudes, yet uses a weapon not only from the US but one that saw service in an equally distasteful conflict. Only made worse considering it’s furnishes that some may consider distasteful

"Dani wasn't at the wrong place at the wrong time - she was born at the wrong place at the wrong time" - this is where you completely missed the point, since fc6 does have same idea here as in other parts (I don't blame you though, because the story isn't nearly as good as you've painted it): The important thing is, whole game story lasts nearly half a year. Now, remember what Anton said? His medicine had stopped working half a year ago, about the same time when Dani joined Libertad. That's why Diego says that its her fault - without Dani, guerrillas would've never succeeded, but without medicine Anton would die on his own, so if Dani would simply leave, Anton would've quickly perished, and Diego would take control and eventually stopped tyranny since he obviously does not like his father's methods. So in the end, Dani's actions result in more blood and destruction that could be avoided if she would decide to Just Walk Away.

The corruption of the Legends comes from Lobo when they first fought the revolution of 67 it ended with Lobo wanting to take control of Yara and Rule it as the dictators had before the whole Revolution is prolific to our people was built on a corrupt Foundation where the Freedom Fighters were actually fighting for something they couldn't see coming even men with the best intentions on the outside can be corrupt when they have the power

I actually really liked your far cry villains video. It's actually what helped to inspire me to make my video essay "Fat cry 4". I'm not trying to spam here, but I genuinely think you should check it out.

Far Cry 3: Great story, Entertaining fun Far Cry 6: Decent Story, Sometimes lacking, Entertaining fun You don't go to play games to expect some Shakespeare writing, you play it to have fun and enjoy the game. Far Cry 6 does just that, it's fun and enjoyable. Not everything makes sense and not every aspect is that great.

I'ma be honest McKay was my favorite of Anton's goons? He's very charismatic, but the minute he said some shit about a fiesta and pinatas I capped him right in the head.

I wish this game had choices and consequences. Far cry 6 could’ve been more meaningful if it involved your decisions and actions to influence the ending. It would also add replayability

Whilst The Characters Weren’t As Impactful As Other Games, I Feel Like The Story Itself Rather Than The Characters Is What Sparks For Me.

Far Cry 6's characters really sucked. You could tell an effort was made to make them unique by making each one have eccentric personalities, but the opposite effect was achieved when each one's traits blurred together. I can't remember anyone besides Dani, Anton, and Diego.

When games try to make every character super quirky and interesting they just come off as annoying. I think one of the few games to actually do this correctly is rdr2.

Im starting to think that reason why dani didn't leave is because she/he starts to be more like juan, they start to enjoy it all, in the words of liquid snake " you enjoy all the killing don't you? " its not until the end of the game that dani realizes that juan willing to kill a fucking CHILD, that juan is wrong. With the ending credit scene ita clear that when the revolution won, nothing really changed, the drug is still being produced by yara, just new people in charge and another revolution to fight for juan, the cycle of violence repeats itself. As for if dani followed in the footsteps of juan or becomes there own person, we'll have to wait to see if theres a dlc that will comtinue the story, like how new dawn continued the story of far cry 5

The best part of this game for me was the moment I deleted its content from my console.

I never played far cry 6 and de ided to watch this as I was thinking it was just the same repeat but as I watched this video and heard "my mother had a rule no lie at my table" it felt so real I genuinely was enthralled with how this all played out this is a huge step in the right direction with a character

22:39 i definitely agreed with Dani in this scene. Juan's self serving rationalization of why Dani protected Deigo disgusted me, and still does. He's unable to see Diego as a person and couldnt seem to fathom that Dani could, and that he didnt deserve to die just gor being a Castillo. I hated that, aside from the breif dressing down from Dani in the scene, he gets no repercussions for trying to shoot a child and getting Clara killed. Yes, *he* got Clara killed. If he hadnt tried to shoot Diego, Anton wouldnt have put a bullet in her head
