I recommend looking at Quarantine Break Comic, Halo the flood book to look at the round Explosion effects In Quarantine Break, Johnson Used Full Auto mode & Fired 4 rounds, they were strong enough to remove the Upper body of flood Infected Human, It removed/Blowed the infected Head, Neck & Upper body Creating U shape where the flesh were removed from the chest, & In Halo the flood(I think) Chief said a one round was able to leave one ft wide wound in flood infected human. Edit : Also we need to take in consideration that Halo Explosives are more potent then ours, Their Standard Issue HEDP Fragmentation Grenade is able to Clear a whole room from a flood, an Explosion send in Quarantine Break send infected human flying break thorough metalic door, in another comic The Grenade was able to flip 3.5 tons warthog.

You should cover the Faust C-41 Pistol from the game Advent Rising. It's a standard issue 90 Caliber (22.8mm) Concussion Pistol with Armor Piercing rounds. That's unreasonably large for a handgun, and I absolutely love it! It's also considered weak by the standards of Advent Rising, and is outclassed by the H.A.Z.E. Blaster. A prototype fusion weapon that fires a plasma-coated kernel of radioactive matter which can fuse explosively upon contact or be wrapped in an entropic field for a delayed explosion.

Given how its about 400 years in the future when its created. To us now it seems like overkill but thats also 400 years of armor advancement with new materials and things that they would need to overcome, so I feel like it fits the setting.

You have to remember they ditched weapons for a good bit of time and had to start over again approx 500 years before halo 1 started so they're not that advanced as they could have been.

There is a carbine and PDW vaiant of the M6 series of handguns in lore, sadly we only see them in novels but you can use them in Halo: Mythic a free fanmade pen and paper RPG system.

You know, it and the seemingly also semi-armour piercing rounds of the scorpion tank were probably designed to deal with technicals. And I don't just mean Toyotas with guns on the back, I mean they probably dealt with a lot of civilian vehicles with armour bolted on till it was decently resistant to most civilian firearms

Thats pretty much the case. The UNSC had been fighting nothing but heavily armed militia groups for several hundred years so almost all the weapons and vehicles we see in the Bungie era games were designed to fight them and their refitted civilian vehicles, stolen UNSC stuff and the occasional homebrew tanks and apc's.

@@RowbotMaster In Reach we mostly see the UNSC Army who uses pretty old guns so the DMR and almost all of the other guns are older than the weapons the Marines use in the other games.

Im glad you brought up that point at the end. Most people forget that a lot of the armament seen in the first few games and even the Spartans themselvs were not made to fight the covenant, but to fight rebel groups.

Really great breakdown and it’s cool to see the possible numbers for the HE part of the gun. Looking at it a bit more from a in universe perspective, it’s likely that the round is using comp L for the explosive, the same one used in the frag grenade. Or if some is feeling truly ballsy they can use the UNSC’s C12. I don’t have any numbers for exactly how powerful C12 is but we know that a 4x4x4 inch cube is powerful enough to level a 5 story building. As for how powerful it’s treated in lore it’s a bit wonky. In The Flood, Chief blows limbs of flood combat forms which were noted for how strong they were. And in what I believe is a tie in comic, Johnson blows the entire torso off a combat form. But in Silent Storm it’s only noted to being about as strong as the AR, which as talked about in the video, only seems to take account the kinetic energy and not the HE. It should also be said there is a carbine version of the magnum in the M6J/C Carbine. But it’s only referenced in some old Bungie.net posts and hasn’t shown up in any actual lore or game yet.

Body Armor in Halo is pretty ridiculous if you go by CE's standards, Marines can tank a full 60-round mag of future 7.62x51 right to the body armor and be MOSTLY fine. So I honestly could see the Magnum being considered a great option by high-ups, especially considering the absolutely insane acts of terror the Insurrection would act out.

???, even though the BDU is good it's not that good to take A full mag of 7.62 nato, It has taken A burst(3 bullets) multiple time, but not A whole mag. Also in one novel Johnson was shot on the chest by a Magnum wielding insurrectionist but the .50 cal round failed to penetrate the Armor & only pushed Johnson back by step.

@@moonamir9708 If you've played CE you'd know so long as you hit the Marines in the body armor with a ballistic weapon it ricohets off doing significantly less damage than it would otherwise. On Easy they can eat two 60s worth of 7.62 and on Heroic/Legendary they can eat a full mag before going down. The Magnum also turned The Rookie's ODST helmeted head into a mist of mush, whats your point?

@@moonamir9708 Mjolnir MKV is more durable than MKIV, MKIV, its the single heaviest suit given to the Spartans. It was capable of shrugging off more than you are giving it credit for. You are also forgetting the Marines in CE are wearing heavy plate made specifically for Operation: Red Flag which gave them better protection than the average ODST or suit of SPI.

The 12.7x40mm round being SAPHE makes working out its terminal ballistics such a hassle even above and beyond the usual hassle which comes with terminal ballistics. In saying that it's definitely the weapon that feels like it most suffers from being designed for the Master Chief as the player character. Just a monster of a gun lol

One thing to mention is that the UNSC does have access to octonitrocubane explosives, which is theoretically the most powerful chemical explosive we've come up with IRL. Although seeing as density would matter for this case, it'd probably be the (theoretically) denser heptanitrocubane. Maybe a 20% higher energy yield.

In a remake of Halo I'm doing, only technology mostly, I have the iconic Magnum pistol be a real gun with two models, long range single shot and a closer range shotgun blast. The 12.7x40mm ammo is used in a Thompson style SMG, mainly used by criminals and Insurrectionists, but that wouldn't stop Chief from using it on some Covies.

I dunno why I wanted to bring this up but in somewhere in the lore the ce magnum is mentioned as being classed as a pdw vs an actual handgun. So a pocket sized carbine that deals high damage has at least middling ranged combat capabilities would make sense to issue to some crewman. Until they decide to introduce the smg the very next game lol

There's lore rules, game rules, and rules of cool. Halo is odd with bullets. The AR a 16shot kill and the DMR an 8 (non headshot) shot kill use the same 7.62 NATO round. I assume that they don't put this in every gun because the bullets would be too expensive.

How long is the M6D's barrel? Those FPS measurements are probably from the S&W 500 with the 6.5" or 7.5" barrel. I wonder how that compares to the snubby they made? You know, in case you get mugged by a bear, and no, I don't mean a large gay man.

We don’t have an exact barrel length for the M6D but taking the numbers given to us from the Bungie website for the M6G (Halo 3) it would have the a 4.6 inch barrel. It makes sense that these number would be the same because they have the exact same overall length of 10.5 inches. (Note: the Halo 3 pistol is originally listed as the M6G but the 2022 Halo Encyclopedia, and Halopedia, now name it as the M6G2 with the Reach pistol taking the M6G title) But this gets wonky because the Halo 2022 Encyclopedia now lists the Halo 3 pistol as being 12.2 inches long.

I swear every time I see Halo weapons and vehicle breakdowns I have to obsess and comment. I absolutely love the M6 Series (particularly the M6G), one of my favorite guns in sci fi. I have a lot of strange little autistic headcannons on the weapons and vehicles of the UNSC and I just can't help but rant about them. Halo has always had a strange reputation when it comes to its weapons, with a lot of people criticizing the UNSC for using many "modern" rounds, such as the AR, and not being "sci fi" enough. I agree to a point, but I think that sometimes it doesn't really matter much. The lore on this is grey, but many ammo types in Halo do use some advanced sci fi propellants, making them more powerful than their IRL counterpart (again, the lore is grey with this, not all guns are 100% confirmed to use them). Stuff like the Battle Rifle (which fires a 9.5x40mm round) for instance being one of the confirmed ones. So you can imagine that IRL this thing would be a monster, but just remember, that there is a chance that it could be using some sfi fi propellant that makes it fairly more powerful than it already is. I feel like this can give interesting interchanges to the weapons used by the UNSC. I like to think the Battle Rifle would be the main rifle of the UNSC, being powerful, being good at most ranges, ect. Something like the AR I feel would be something more back of the line soldiers or vehicle crews use, like you mentioned in a video talking about pistols and stocks. The sidearm on the other hand I have a few hot takes with. The MK50 Sidekick is a better main sidearm for general use in the UNSC military. Its sleeker, more controllable, and fires a 10x31mm SAP round, making it actually pretty powerful on its own. M6 Series is something I feel should be reserved for Officers and SOF as an option if they even want it, and probably would be the default for SPARTANs. Being as big and powerful as a round as it is, thus of course making the pistol itself a lot bigger, its just not a great practical gun for a general use sidearm for most average soldiers/normal humans.
