only thing worst to steer is the warthog. no idea why they thought it'd be a good idea to add a timed section requiring precise maneuvers to get through with only a warthog to get you there. I had to retry that damn mission 7 times to beat it.

@@Sparrow_Bloodhunter I never had a problem with the warthog in any of the games on console ngl, PC was a bit trickier but you can get the hang of it (unless you're playing infinite). Rack up 25 kills in blood gulch slayer by doing donuts around the bases and spawnkilling a bunch of people back when I was an honorless brat.

@@Sparrow_Bloodhunter The Warthog actually has some of my favorite handling in any vehicle of any game. Few vehicles allow you to powerslide so hard you can turn the body into a giant sledgehammer and side-sweep multiple enemies. Only problem is that the controls don't adapt well to mouse and keyboard.

@@casualbird7671 Because it mostly depends on the environment if it’s difficult to drive or not. If it’s a big flat open area then the Ghost will handle really well. It can even glide over shallow water ofcourse.

@@AmanStudios Looks good! You did the visuals well. Adding longer travel on the spring could help, but there'll always be a limit there. And unfortunately, grappling hooks are just really hard. There's a reason it's taken me as much development time as it has to get what I consider acceptable performance - if it was as simple as 3d printing something, everyone would have done it already. Good luck with it though!

It's always a toss up between including more details for the more serious audience, vs just keeping it high level for the majority. One day I hope to start uploading companion videos for each project that go into the more technical content. No Patreon currently, but I've been considering it... I just don't know if I want to take money from viewers while the sponsorships are already covering me well enough. Thanks though!

@@Built_IRL Honestly, the finnicky nature of handling it just makes it seem even more like a ghost, what with how they tend to take a second or two to come to a complete stop. If the Halo games supported vehicles rotating outside of the players' control, I have no doubt ghosts would have been given a similar tendency towards spinning out.

Great build! For mk II you may want to consider separate throttle and steering. Have mechanical steering that utilizes thrust vectoring and let the throttle be more or less constant. With the right thrust vectoring configuration you could even have a thrust reverser for braking.

I think that thrust vectoring on the jet engines might be a good way to get faster steering response. Or you could use electric drone motors or EDFs, which would be quieter too.

But for thrust vectoring, you need the engines further back from the CG. I think in this case, if you wanted to keep the jets positioned as they are, you could wire both jets on the same throttle, but have some clamshell doors partially cover the exhaust on one side to turn. The mechanical blockage would be more responsive, without the spool down/spool up delay of the jet.

Though now I'm curious - obviously we're far off from inventing an "anti-gravity drive" but how close could a hovercraft of this size get to the speed and handling of what's seen in game?

The speed, we could definitely get - even this one should be able to go pretty fast. The handling, though, that's a lot harder. Hovercrafts just aren't very easy to manoeuvre, no matter what you try. Still, I won't say it's impossible!

RE: how the ghost handles It seems like you might want a “fly by wire” solution to be able to translate user input into more acceptable handling. I’m assuming there wasn’t any code written by the creator… Which is an assumption! If I am right, my follow up questions would be “have you ever programmed an arduino before,” “what’s the mix and max (acceptable) output of each jet,” and then it would be a matter of finding a good graph/math equation. Honestly, if I had access to this build to measure stuff I think it would be fun to tweak code in unity to get the best ‘fly by wire’ system for this particular build.
