I would like to propose an alternative theory as to why they lost: If you watch it you’ll see they start to really die when taking the hill. My theory is that the elites rushed up and the marines spread out to all sides meaning the elites got shot from three angels without cover from multiple enemies and they never arrived in a full force and so you had small groups of two or three against 5-10 marines making it very easy to wipe out the marines.

@@anoblefish411 What do you mean? The elites were always smart my guy. The dumbass elites are in halo 4 and 5 because they were lazy, but elites from 1,2,3, and reach are very smart and skilled.

Or if they were on level ground so the elites didn't take a bunch of enfilade fire. Though tbf there's a good chance the army troopers would win anyways; hitscan weapons, more health, smaller target.

These aren’t Marines, they are Army troopers. Marines have brown and black uniforms with the Military Police helmet and were only seen at the end campaign on the mission, “Pillar of Autumn”.

I was surprised too, When i saw all the Elites packed in one place i though okay marines are done, but no, i guess it was because they had the "high ground" :)

Are you sure about that? Ingame is different from what it is in the books. Covies were were kicking the UNSCs ass and if not for the huge boost from S2s, reverse engineering, and smart AIs, UNSC would've been finished.

Kind of the real difference is that in the books one or two shots from a plasma rifle would have killed a marine instantly they cant have that in the game because the game would be near impossible to survive let alone beat

Marines or in this case army soldiers Do better in extended periods of combat, and farther range engagement, while the elites definitely dominate in melee combat

These firefights actually showcase how cumbersome and unwieldy the Covenant plasma rifle is. The UNSC's MA40 not only has a higher rate of fire, thus making it better at suppression, but it appears to have overall superior accuracy.

I mean tbf the elite AI doesn’t shoot the rifle at its full fire rate and plasma weaponry in game is not as lethal as it is in lore books.

Irc in lore the UNSC rifle outranges the plasma rifle and is more accurate. Plasma Rifle though does just so much damage it makes up for all it's other weaknesses.

@@Cyberbro665 I mean, plasma literally just destroys your insides. Having a slower firerate is pretty fair, though it doesn't make too much sense for the shots themselves to be that slow. I'd expect what is basically energy to move faster, y'know?

Forge mod alone is really worth it, its really fun. I didn't even play multiplayer yet, because i modded the game and multi is disabled but i can imagine it must be crazy fun. With all the vehicles, ships, turrets, i would say it is a must have, specially if you never played a halo game before like me

Marines/odsts need to be represented as capable soldiers. Putting gameplay and lore aside, in reality, there are many cases of real-life marines being 6 foot 4, muscled, killing machines. I don't see why they wouldn't be 500 years in the future. At range, the shield and plasma weapon are really the only things the elites have going for them. Underneath the armour it's really just a big space lizard, no less vulnerable to bullets than any human. Once their shield's dropped, it wouldn't take much to put them down. Again, speaking outside of lore and gameplay.

If you want to get really technical the elites do wear far more advanced armor and are strong enough to rip any human that isn’t a Spartan in half.

I would do heroic as I feel it the most realistic the elites would be stronger than the humans but both would be decently effective in combat if it was legendary the army troopers would die in mear moments after the battle had started

I like the AI of the Troopers on Reach. In the thirteen years I've been playing the game, I've had three distinct instances in which i had a single trooper take out multiple elites and brutes. Granted, I did a good chunk of the work for two of them by taking the shields down only to get caught up in a reload, but it was still nice to see them jump in and finish the job. The third guy was a warthog gunner that destroyed two wraiths (two brutes each) and a ghost on Exodus when you have to arm the missile batteries.
