@@jeffreydsmith6245 You're not entirely wrong; the Master Chief did keep his helmet on in order to maintain a sense of immersion for Halo players. However, it was also to serve as a blank slate for players and allow them to feel like they themselves were actually the Master Chief himself. The fact that we've never seen his face makes it easier for anyone to self-insert themselves into the Master Chief's Spartan armor. I have to agree with E;R in that revealing the Chief's face in only the first episode (let alone even showing his face, period) was a colossal mistake. Another reason why the Chief always wears his helmet is because we, as an audience, are supposed to view him as more machine than man, essentially an unfeeling soldier who obeys without question and kills in order to protect humanity at any cost. A massive red flag for me before this show even released was that the showrunners didn't even bother playing the games and trying to understand Halo's extensive lore, or even what made the Master Chief such an endearing character for so many people.

All of the Spartan candidates were told the exact the reason why they were kidnapped and Halsey made sure none of them had their memories altered because she wanted to prevent the exact situation that is depicted in this first episode. It's absolutely astonishing that people wanting to promote female empowerment effectively dropped the IQ of the smartest woman in the universe down a couple hundred points.
@MalfosRanger2 жыл бұрын
It is frustrating. The pool of SPARTAN candidates was so small that the UNSC couldn’t afford unnecessary attrition on top of those that they knew would suffer complications from the augmentations. There was no room to compromise results by messing with their minds. The SPARTAN IIs may not be socialized like the average person but they still had a sense of belonging within their unit and a genuine commitment to safeguarding humanity. They aren’t as relatable as Steve Rogers but their resembling machines was mostly from the outside looking in. The games only show John-117 after almost everyone he’s ever had a relationship with prior to the Covenant overrunning Reach had been killed or gone missing. As for Dr. Halsey, she may not be as free-spirited and chipper as Cortana but she’s no mouse by any measure. She never could have achieved her position in the cutthroat, backstabbing halls of ONI if she didn’t have the resolve and guile to back up her intellect. Whether it’s Miranda Keys fumbling around with an insurgent prisoner like she’s a rookie human resources or insurance agent, the UNSC trying to kill a SPARTAN in MJOLNIR by hypoxia, or any of a myriad of narrative inconsistencies, it’s clear this isn’t for anyone that would pay a subscription out of fondness for the franchise.

I love when characters forget guns are long-distance weapons and they just charge in, as though a few yards closer will somehow make the bullets more effective. Even better when those bullets are clearly hitting their mark but having no effect slowing down enemies, much less harming them. Then those characters just get themselves killed when they come within reach. It's always so convenient for the enemies and they save those calories walking the few extra yards. Such great writing.

And the dumbest part about all of this is that all they needed to do to environmentally explain that stupidity is animate shield damage (not just the shields, but the shields getting damaged) or have the idiots charging in bring out melee weapons that are strong against shielding such EMP batons or something. It's that simple yet to these writers this is some sort of galaxy brain revelation.

@@Ramsey276one Strictly speaking, all guns that don't have to be mounted or stationed are more effective at close range. Meaning literally all of them except snipers. They have more stopping power (because less force is lost to air friction) and it's easier to aim them. I mean this all just kind of speaks for itself. With that in mind, the idea of a fully automatic ranged weapon is that you can stay at range and spray such that other people can't close in on your position, so to move from your position when you can aim an hit from where you are currently is just silly. You would only move when you're advancing to a new position, but if they aren't moving, you won't have gained any g round, you've just made it easier for them to kill you.

Halsey as she was characterized before was absolutely brutal, but had a bizarrely mother-like attitude towards her surviving candidates. The show being non canon is not an excuse for bad story telling, Halo legends did super well with non canon story's, it had the classic and iconic halo music, it didn't try to put in a message and they got the art style and story all right. It actually felt like it was halo. Its disappointing that this show has to be another bad video game adaption because the showrunners wanted to tell a generic sci fi story instead of a actual halo story, This is even more annoying considering halo has done super well with adaptions in the past like sonic has. In fact instead of watching this, just watch the halo legends anime, it gets everything right and treats halo with respect. IN fact Id rather have a halo legends 2 instead of this show. If there is fan demand for it, it will happen.

The propaganda is not made for you. It was produced by Paramount and Amblin Television which tells you all you need to know. Episode 1 and he's portrayed as a dumb brute who needs to be lectured by a teenager AND he's betraying the UNSC! Great. Ok moving on- INDEPENDENCE for your shitty planet? I thought you wanted to get off it! Plus now that the Covenant know humans are on it your planet is about to be turned into a hunk of glass slag. Stay independent queen. Also yeah, MC should always have his helmet on. I've read some of the books and he's actually a ginger. Best not to show that or anything else. Keep it mysterious.
@RobertMorgan2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that was a hallmark of the SIIs, none of them were mediocre. Even the 'worst' of them were experts in whatever field they were in. With a selection process as brutal as they had, it makes sense no one not up to the highest standard would slip through. MC never really thought of himself as the smartest of the group, but then you have moments like forgetting the equation for gravity acceleration, so he just runs through the calculus in his head to derive the proper physics values...then 5 min later beats 4 ODSTs to death with his bare hands, feels bad about it as they're his colleagues, but then justifies it as he was ordered to do it and he wouldn't be ordered to do that without a good reason, so no need to feel bad...that's a lot of character establishment and development in one single book scene.

@SollomonGrunty it only makes sense in the tv show timeline because they made a few super special humans "blessed ones". only chief and makee are able to use forerunner things in it that we know of making them an extremely valuable resource. regular lore it's something any human can do, so they just use some prisoners after a battle if they need them and then kill them afterwards.
@halinaqi21942 жыл бұрын
@SollomonGrunty they had human prisoners no doubt, probably used for interrogation and to activate forerunner artifacts. We even rescue some in halo 2, the mission "Gravemind". But here's the thing, if the covenant want humans to be able to use forerunner artifacts they'd just give them the Johnson/Miranda treatment, why would they even bother having a dialogue with them or give them any sort of influence in their politics?
@chaotixthefox2 жыл бұрын
@SollomonGrunty No, it does not. The Prophets declared humanity an affront to their religion and went to every effort to suppress the humans status as Reclaimers, and if they really needed a human to activate someone they would just capture one for temporary use.

The diverse cast is so carefully crafted it's almost like state-of-the-art diversity. Like on the cutting edge of nailing every single combination of race and gender. The only thing more cutting edge would be a trans character, but the bottom line is the whole thing is about money so I believe in their board meetings they opted to remove the trans character because it would have otherwise thrown off their pitch perfect casting.

I wouldn't be surprised if they had some kind of nonbinary/androgynous AI that gets introduced. It would be super easy for them to deal with, they wouldn't have to find an actor who "looks" the part. And they wouldn't have to worry about romance developing because it's an AI.

Probably pointed out many times but the spartans being kidnapped children was introduced to the lore before even the release of the first game in 2001 when it wasnt yet as overused of a trope. It draws from the actual historical spartans where kids were taken away very young to become soldiers (hence the name spartan). Also the fact they changed them of not knowing this was ridiculous and stupid. It was carefully stated by Halsey in the book when produced amnesia and lying was proposed that it risked them turning against their makers if they got their memories restored or learned that they were lied to. One of the biggest misses opportunities was exploring this. The spartans see Halsey as a motherfigure. The dynamic is fucked up Halsey sees them partially as her children but also as her greatest scientific accomplishments.
