I've always liked that interpretation of Halsey acting as the surrogate mother to all the Spartans but showing the most effection to John, in particular, has been the most heartbreaking. She took away John's childhood, future, and family to create the perfect hero to save their species. Over the course of the war, John lost comrades and people he genuinely cared for. Halsey lost her distant ex-husband Keyes to a gruesome death by the Flood and then her estranged daughter Miranda was taken by a conflict that has left her marred and marked as a monster. The only person that understands her and has a semblance of a connection to her even if it is hinted with animosity, is John. He is all she has left after the dust from the galactic scuffle settles. The only person left in the galaxy that knows who she is in earnest has no love to give. It's tragic.
@rohanthomas4134
@rohanthomas4134 3 жыл бұрын
I have much the same interpretation to you. Though I like to think that John would be capable of showing his affection for Halsey in his own way. It is tragic though. To add to your point, Halsey’s arguably greatest creation and in a sense other daughter has now become the new overbearing threat to the galaxy and is specifically targeting John. Just another nail in the coffin.
@kaptainkoffee9074
@kaptainkoffee9074 3 жыл бұрын
I can agree with that. Something that's fascinating that no one achknowledges is that Cortana's personality is mirrored completely off of Halsey. So Cortana's deep rooted connection to John might stem from that branch or it could have been coincidence that builds the relationship she does with him. She treats John in a kind bashful way as opposed to how John was treated while in Halsey's care. Cortana is a reflection as stated so aside from rampancy wasn't this outburst of perfection with the Guardians inevitable given her creators personality or is she simply a fragmented mind clinging to a purpose she no longer understands?
@NordicTobz
@NordicTobz 2 жыл бұрын
I think one more tragic thing is John and Cortana's discussion about who is a machine, John is a human that made to resemble a machine while Cortana was a machine that was made to resemble a human. It seems like a sick paradox
@Bryan-uw1ny
@Bryan-uw1ny 2 жыл бұрын
John is definitely NOT the biggest tragedy in the S-II program. I forget some of the names, but some had horrible starts before Halsey selected them for extraction. Serin is one example I can think of. Her mom was a junkie and abandoned her before age 6 and Halsey picked her up. She completed training, but almost died in augmentation. That's when Admiral Parangosky recruited her into ONI. If you don't remember her, she was the ONI officer who gave Captain Lasky the green light to take out Halsey in Halo 4 Spartan Ops. You should definitely read the kilo 5 trilogy.

Why? Serious question. 343 contributed nothing of quality to the Halo universe so far. All they have done to this point is stolen the work of other people and made it infinitely worse. What in the hell makes you think infinite is going to hw different. Just another dumpster fire made by 343.

@@Cincinnatius That is the worst argument ever. Halo 4 and 5 were both a disgrace for the Halo IP. 343 has a track record of making garbage. They can't even make a port of a game that came out in 2001. They had almost an entire year of delay and had absolutely nothing to show for at E3. This is just another Cyberpunk. The fact they hide their non existent work so much is more then telling. But 343 fanboys like you will never learn. It's not like they ever made anything good in their short existence. Sad to think again about the fallen spartan 2s and other soldiers
@Cincinnatius
@Cincinnatius 3 жыл бұрын
honestly, I always found that the spartan 3s had it worse. Their parents threw them out to be experimented on and possibly die horrible deaths on the operating table, and they were old enough to know that as well as be hated more than spartan 2s because they were looked at as more expendable and weren't made by Halsey. Most went on headhunting missions that were almost a 99% mortality rate, later renamed as suicide missions because of that statistic. hell, even ODST's were considered less expendable.

@@lunasnightshade I think it would be more accurate to say that ONI wanted to win the (what seemed to them due to the Karva findings) inevitable mass conflict with the insurrection, and by extension prevent the predicted deaths of billions. What ONI did to facilitate the Spartan 2 program was utterly monstrous and in principle unjustifiable, but it was about more than just control of the population. Seems they really hit home on understanding the characters in this one by what we've seen so far. but just going on rambling as I can say from a third party standpoint..you have a Tremendous Great Understanding of John and You are deeply infatuated with the Character. You know… I was thinking about this the other day as I was reading “Silent Storm” the other day. How does good come from evil? Because, when you really think about it, what Halsey did to the Spartans was pure, cold-hearted, and twisted *EVIL* . She didn’t make the Spartans to defend humanity from the Covenant, that’s just something that happened. She ripped these children out of the lives they could have had because she wanted to see if she could turn children into killing machines and the government, a completely soulless entity that was in a war to maintain its death grip on the colonies who were tired of being cogs in the machine, agreed with her. John-117 could have turned out exactly like Darth Maul. “The Sith ripped me from my mother’s arms, murdered my brother, used me as a weapon, and then cast me aside. Abandoned me. Once I had power, but now I have nothing. Nothing.” When I think about it, John is almost exactly like Maul, or maybe even the Clones. Halsey may be playing his mother now, but she doesn’t *really* care about him. He’s expendable to this scientist and the government that enabled her to abuse him at the end of the day. When there are no more wars to fight, when Cortana, Halsey, and all of the other Spartans are gone - having given up their lives to a cause they didn’t choose - he will have nothing. Not even a life. Humanity was saved. I’m sure the species is grateful for the sacrifice of the Spartan II’s… but when we think about the atrocities our species is capable of, all of the unspeakable things we have done and will do solely because we either wanted to or because someone told us to… it really makes you wonder if our species *deserves* to survive. If we’re like Halsey, a woman who was only ever devoted to science and never had any morals or ethics and was willing to destroy the lives of hundred of children *just because* … I really wonder if whatever smacks us down the road isn’t because we deserve it.
@rohanthomas4134

While I totally agree that the Spartan 2 program is evil regardless of the net positive it gains for humanity, I strongly disagree with your assessment of doctor Halsey and her motivations. It is made very clear in multiple sources particularly"the fall of reach" and First strike" that a significant if not the primary motivation driving Halsey is the Insurrectionist threat and the possibility of large scale human civil war predicted by the Carver Findings. As far as Halsey and the UNSC are aware, if drastic action is not taken to stabilise the political situation within the colonises then humanity is on the track to tear its own society apart and kill billions in an interstellar nuclear war. I would definitely agree that there was an element of morbid scientific curiosity and ego that drove her proposal for the spartan 2 program, but that does not invalidate the (as far as Halsey and the UNSC are concerned) grim necessity of the program. In addition, it's made clear in "the fall of reach" that if Hasley tried to delay or refuses to move ahead with any of the unsavoury elements of the spartan two program (witch she strongly considers dowing just prior to augmentations when the candidates are fourteen) then ONI would just replace her with someone less concerned with the child candidates welfare. There are several instances of her feeling immense guilt over what she did to the Spartans and by the end of the human covenant war she has come to believe that the choice she made to embark on the project was wrong and subsequently does everything in her power to save the Spartan 3's on onex defying ONI and the UNSC in the proses. (ironically it's this act of attempted moral penance that gets her arrested and scapegoated by ONI) She absolutely cares a great deal about the spartan 2's especially John, there are numerous instances of that being expressed over many books, comics and games. While there is a certain dissonance to her caring for but still putting the Spartans in harms way, as soldiers it's important to remember that by the time that the Spartans are actually deployed the covenant has already made its threat known. In the face of such an existential threat, it would be madness not to deploy the greatest soldiers in human history against it. We see her express affection or concern for the spartan 2's in almost every interaction she has with them across the whole franchise.

Something to think about, that though perhaps humanity has yet to produce super soldiers, every soldier then and now who faced great darkness with courage and a willing heart, began their life...as a child. And when they put on that uniform they are a child no longer, innocent hopes traded away for the will to fight and defend others. Hoouragh Master Chief from JT Hughes of the 1st Infantry.

Well actually in the lore the spartan program started out with 150 candidates but only 75 were taken to reach, between the augmentation washouts and those killed in action most died. There are however at least 12 active spartan 2's that being Blue team, Red team, Gray team and Naomi 010. There are more than a dozen Spartans who were ever crippled during their augmentations and thus never entered combat, retired and became a civilian or deserted from the UNSC. Even with 20 years of content were still not sure.

well, you'd have about a 1/25 chance of dying in an accident during training, a 13/36 chance of dying during augmentations to get the suit, Plus an about a 1/3 chance of dying in the human covenant war so who knows how long you would have it but yeah, you would have a pretty coll suit.

Your actual, not the first person to ask me that and look at your channel you seem to have some interest in editing so I give you the same answer I gave the last person. (as in I'll copy and paste because I was pretty detailed this first time and it's quicker than writing it out again in different words) To answer your question, I use a program called adobe audition. it has a feature that attempts to extract and isolate different types of noise like speech, sound effects and music. it's not perfect and it has limits and you can hear a lot of tell-tail fuzzy background in this video if you know what to listen for but it gets the job done for the most part. there are better ways that result in cleaner sound but they require specialised software or piracy to do it. If you have the physical media as ether DVD or blue-ray you can use a piece of software like Handbreak to render the clips you want in your desired video format, just be sure to render the chosen media in 5.1 audio (assuming that is an option) as this will give you multiple audio channels in your editing software one of which has most of the dialogue and sound effects and nothing else. (this varies depending on the media you are using) the other option is piracy. There are plenty of tutorials that will teach you how to torrent movies and TV shows safely on KZbin all I will say is that if you chose to you should make sure To download files that are already in the 5.1 audio format. Bear in mind this method is considered illegal in dozens of countries around the world so do so at your own risk. To answer the question more specifically I used adobe audition with the rerendered cutscenes and I got hold of a 5.1 copy of the fall of reach movie (either Blue-rey/DVD or Pratcy would work for that.

Well, this was made at a time when the only Infinite content we had was a teaser trailer and a preview of the first cutscene. I can't deny that the multiplayer content is pretty botched despite a pretty fun core. Narratively I think Infinite is a bit of a mixed bag but its positives soundly outway its shortcomings.

I chose the title as a reference to a quote from kelly in the Fall of reach movie. In the video you can hear the quote at 7:16 in the video. I chose the title because the video's major focus was on how the Spartans are child soldiers how had any chance for an ordinary childhood stolen from them.
