I cried at least 4 times from this, the Lore, the story of the UNSC’s finest Spartan, has always been one of the most powerful and complex stories… and that’s stating from the books and the newer games that now incorporate that backstory more properly. All of his fears and the fact that while he’s a nigh superb soldier who is able to succeed at many missions, he’s lost people close to him or because they just couldn’t keep up with him and he couldn’t save him and accomplish the mission or they gave their life to save him. That Chief, while essentially the perfect Super Soldier, he was developing a sort of extreme fear of loss, losing those under him or close to him, especially his fellow Spartans. Then you have the AI that is essentially now melded in his mind, a copy of the brain of his and the other Spartan II’s mother figure, and she became of that very close circle that we see him keep next to him in Blue Team. Then he has the threat of losing her, he goes far beyond the logical need to save her, to view her as more than a tool, an AI and as family, something he even did with Deja, how he remembered her fondly as the one the who taught him “about the wolves” and much more, not just as the AI meant to do so. He’s even shown compassion to innies after the war, refusing to fully agree with leaving behind rebels to the covenant to kill. He made promises and then always tried to keep them, anytime he seemily failed at that, he seems to be stuck in a deep thought and plagued with thoughts about it for too long depending on what and to whom the broken promise was to. On the Craddle, to Cortana, Johnson, his fellow Spartans, Mendez, the girl he promised to marry when he was a child, who he later met and got stuck in deep thought on that for a bit during the battle of Earth. And all of that I love cuz the games showed that in simple ways, that he’s essentially got attachment issues, each loss seemingly affecting the Spartans in a severe case due to his training, the pack mentality the IIs have, the losses they suffered from being abducted, trained as child soldiers, losing half of them and he himself being responsible for them and blaming himself, the inability to, even though he’s a soldier, to truly be one, instead he’s what he said he was, a protector of humanity, a human himself. And this video is probably the only fucking video I’ve found that says and expresses it all IN A SINGLE FUCKING VIDEO. Others separate it into deprecate videos cuz it’s so much deeper thanks to the books having tons of examples each, tons of things to read into, to analyze. But you, and your use of the audiobooks for some aspects (fucking amazing btw), the right scenes and the exchanges he’s had with people, the orders he’s accepted, promises he’s made and failed, the inherent fact that him and his remaining IIs are essentially alone and those they risk to bring into their close circle seem to suffer and die, and at least for him, it kills more and more of him because unlike the others, he bottles it up cuz he’s the leader, cuz he’s got a responsibility to be of sound thought. To be the pillar for his family. Goddam, this video needs to explode imo, as a massive Halo lore fan, this video brings soo many good memories from the books, from the lines, scenes, music, volume, pauses, there really isn’t a single fucking part wrong with this. Absolutely perfect. Splendid mate, just absolutely motherfucking amazing, fucking perfect. I can’t wait for what comes next from ya, and this video just gets me even more hyped for the story of Infinite, even more so than I even thought was possible enough already. Just amazing.

You have just made me unspeakably happy. The reaction you have to this video Is exactly why I wanted to make it. I definitely concur with your assessment. There is so much depth in the halo story and I so wanted to express some of that sweet book lore and characterisation from the expanded universe. Honestly I managed to get myself more hyped for infinite’s story during the months of working on this, I’m so dame excited! I’ll definitely make more Halo vids in the future (I’ve got lots of ideas) but I figure I should wait for infinite before I actually start work on any more Halo edits. Say what you will about Halo 5, I know a lot of people didnt like it but honestly, it was lines like those that hit hard for me. The original trilogy will always have a place in my heart but Ive enjoyed the more emotionally invested storyline of 343. The deep dive into Chief and Cortanas relationship, how Chief still needs Cortana and is trying to bring her back and Cortana truly does think she is doing this for good reasons and wants John to agree with her is the best part of the Reclaimer Trilogy by far.

I as well have many issues with Halo 5. one of those issues is how they changed Cortana's characterisation without adequate explanation. However, for the character she has become, the interaction she has with John is pretty fantastic. I really hope Infinite will give us more of that exploration as well as a proper explanation as to why she became that way.

@@rohanthomas4134 honestly ur video kinda helped me understand Cortana’s change, to me it feels realistic, she’s one of the smartest alive and she’s only an AI , John was her only partner. Okay, now it settled, I can comment properly. This blowed up my brain. It is amaizing done and you can feel the care you put in each second of it. Every dialogue intentionally telling us a part of his story as much as his feels and what he has to deal with. He goes on, his motives changing, his humanity showing and you reflect it perfectly. I'm in love you used everything on hand, legends, forward until down, fall of reach, the cut dialogue of halo 4. All of it gave me the chills and the ending destroyed me as much as gave me a small hope. He suffered a lot but always did what he had to. Everyone knows it despite you can see he becomes tired. I might be wrong about that last part and also to this; There is a change on this video, like it has two parts. His past, his duty, but now at some point when he loses Cortana it feels he is "moving" to still kept that promise he did to her. Than you for this amaizing piece. The games don't really do that great of a job showing the person behind the armor. This video does and includes everything in between. Iv read some of the books and watched comics and stories of chief and iv never gotten the characterization that this video holds. In every way the audio you put in over the games was so damn good. The transition from the kid version of chief to him getting his first suit of armor and them cutting to him fighting the flood with that same suit of armor makes that situation seem so much more humanized instead of a war machine tearing through endless hoards of flood with ease with seemingly no emotion. It makes me wonder what he's feeling under the armor instead of seeing a stoic badass that can tear through anything. There's a human under there and this video did a great job of visualizing that. After playing the halo infinite story and watching this, I can see through the armor and finally see his emotion it seems like. Obviously you could at some points see how he's feeling without even seeing his face but there's more emotion there than the older games tend to show.

I would never believe i would say that to someone ...but i am so sad that i missed the good old days of halo...being just a kid ,having no major responsibilities...just playing and enjoying halo 1 and 2. And i am even more sad that nobody of my friends wanted to play halo with me. Seeing this video , my childhood memories evoked and i cried so much , that i tried to supress the sorrow. I am not even kidding , this is the best edit-mashup of our journey to the halo universe being 117. Thus Thomas u made my night , and i shall sleep peacefully now ,thinking about all these special moments that basically changed my life ,especially my childhood. Thank you for that brother.

Your videos are just so amazing. Being able to condense all that story in around 18 minutes. This video reminded me of how much Chief and the other Spartans had to do just to keep Humanity away from extinction. Even after the horror of training and augmentations, they still had to keep on push themselves to the edge and keep making sacrifices cause, just as Kelly said, "We were children". For the Halo universe is filled with threats that can wipe out an entire civilization in the blink of an eye. I hope Chief's story comes to a conclusion in Infinite. I love him just as much as all of you do but... the man deserves a rest. He's saved a lot and lost a lot. And once again, thanks for making these amazing videos. Keep being amazing. Keep being awesome
@rohanthomas41343 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Your kind words mean so much. The Spartans have certainly been though hell to defend humanity, it’s almost a mercy that they were conditioned to be so machine like as any ordinary person would break under half of what the Spartans have dealt with. As for the chief I totally agree that his story needs to and probably will come to a definitive conclusion in infinite. Though infinite is intended to be a 10 year plan with mutable campaigns so we are probably some time way from that ending.

this only just now came into my recommended and it was amazing and i only have great things to say but all i can and will say is this, i was 6 when i first played halo ce and i played halo 2 which had only come out a year before (2005) and ive been playing games ever since and it was only when i was in high school i started reading the books. the more i had read the more interested i got not just in the games but into the entirety of the franchise so this made think of chiefs back story and i'll be completely honest i cried a little bit cause chief at least to me idk about anyone else but he never mourned those he lost, and he only goes into deep thought when he thinks of them, so some people forget he is human he has fears and he bleeds like the rest of us, he is definitely one of my favorite characters of all time simply because although he may not show his emotions he focuses on keep everyone together and moving forward. all i can say now is great video and im definitely giving you a subscription my guy.
@rohanthomas41342 жыл бұрын
You are certainly right about John not preceding all of what he's been through, His childhood experiences alone would be enough to traumatise the average person for life. Part of his training was emotional repression so he could both wether the unthinkable stress and pressure he has been under for decades and so he can act the rock for his team to depend on. Also, I'm very happy you enjoyed this so much.

Playing halo for 12 years now and me being 16… this brought me to tears. Hell if someone told me those where gonna be the best times of my life growing up with my brothers and cousins playing halo reach everynight playing infected swat slayer all to end in a argument about who one and cheesy spots on the maps to learning all the lore from halo follower and hidden x. I almost gave up on halo, the new ones not following the lore. I still don’t approve of the new graphics and halos downfall in five. But this game franchise made me who I am today and shaped my whole gaming experience and performances. I love halo. It is such a emotional and lore driven game that most people going into infinite wouldn’t understand. I hope your video shares some light to them and they get to experience everything I have growing up playing halo. Thank you for bringing the memories back as cheesy as that sounds.

@@joshfinch7041 I have seen it, overall I think it’s to early for definite judgments however my expectations are not high for the rest of the series. It certainly captures some aspects of halo, namely it’s aesthetic and certain points of characterisation and theme taken mostly from the books. It also appears to be going in a very different direction than then main canon and I don’t know what to make of that. I wouldn’t give it a glowing recommendation but I think it’s worth checking out for oneself. If nothing else, the production values are quite high particularly in regards to its action scenes.

This is genuinely one of the best edits and tributes i've seen in year's, and really makes you realise everything the master chief went through throughout his whole life, everything from the abduction from his home planet, to being woken in the middle of a massive war to being dragged under by the gravemind and having to go up to the forerunner ship that then lead him to back to earth and then, working with his so called enemy and then helping the arbiter take down the prophets and then making from cryo at the start of halo 4 and slowing starting to lose cortana, and eventually her turning against him in 5. Such a well made tribute to a soldier that gave so many of us, our childhood's/teenage years and will hopefully keep giving some more. Thank you for making such a well made and well edited tribute.
