Given the detailed description of the effects of a Nova Bomb detonation in I believe it is First Strike, it is indeed a weapon worthy of the Master of Mankind's arsenal. Which goes to show just how bloody big that bomb is. If I recall it exploded on board a ship in space and was still able to crack a moon in half and sterilize the surface of a planet.

To be fair, I'm pretty sure Gray Team did everything they could to avoid the elites from noticing them. If the elites had spotted them , then they would've either told them the war was over or killed them for trying to blow up their world. Even if the elites had told them, the war had been going on for decades with zero diplomacy; it's doubtful that the Spartans would believe a peace accord had been negotiated, signed, and put into affect in a few months.

it would be interesting if they actually fraternized with sangheli on a world they are active on, and then end up redeeming themselves by saving that planet from a plot by either some splinter group or better yet ONI, perhaps dying in the proces but I'm not sure if that would be better or not, the point is that they are a prime contender for such a redemption arc

I don't see how grey team did anything wrong. The Elites had 100% been on board with geno-ciding every human colony their was, plus they didn't have a single "war criminal" amongst their own ranks. Even the white elite guy (forgot his name) straight up mocked the unsc over the colony "glassings" in halo 3. If they weren't so war weary, the unsc would 100% be aiming to flatten the shangheili.
