I think adding a small amount of information regarding the Precursors might be ok if they don't go overboard like for example making an entire book dedicated to just Precursors but maybe something more like the terminals in Halo: CE-3 or even just a little nod here and there. Though I would vastly prefer more lore regarding Ancient Humanity and their overall effect on the galaxy at that time though not all at once like with the Forerunner Trilogy of book and more like seeing an ancient human appear or finding audio logs or something like that

Yea like just imagine we find this empty Ancient Human cylix which housed one of the warriors who fought with the Lord of Admirals and then when we find him he’s all confused. Or maybe we end up finding one of the weapons they used against the Forerunners which apparently they “had no defense against” so they were studying it on Zeta Halo. Ugh there’s so much potential for campaign DLC but I fear they won’t utilize it 😟

Now imagine this in a Halo BR where you just start with your gel layer under armor and maybe a shield but you have to find your armor parts like other loot and they can take damage and break requiring repair/replacment. Bottom line, we need some form of armor degredation in Halo and we need it yesterday!!!

I think you accidentally mistook what they said like most other fans have. I don't think they ever said they were ending the narrative for Multiplayer. They were just ending the cutscenes to explain it- that's why we're still getting in-universe messages building on the lore outside of just the multiplayer that explains where battlepass themes have come from basically. They do still build on the actual lore of the universe, they just aren't making cutscenes to explain the lore anymore.

Is it still a possibility that The Endless are the precursors? If so, they technically already have. I think if it is done well it won't ruin anything. There will still be a lot of ambiguity in the game and people not very in touch with the lore will still see it as mysterious if done right. Keep them in the shadows, pulling the strings of the flood.

I think that would be the best way to take the story forward. That the Endless were actually precursors and well, the flood lied. It makes more sense, given that during Infinite, one of the cut scenes, tells of how the Endless were immune to the effects of Halo - but their technology wasn't. That would allow free reign on a totally new scale - re-writing the lies told by the flood, the war between the Forerunners and The Endless(precursors) - it would explain why many left, as the other choice was basically storage in status on a Halo(Zeta Halo if I remember correctly). A new game tribology - where with a mix of Halo two, you get to play through as both Spartan, Forerunner and Endless. Along the lines of Alien vs Predator - where all three campaigns over lap with each other. Also if the programming and console processor will allow, try to have them affect each other - so on one play through, you play as a Spartan, and have to choose which side to support - then your campaign goes from there. I do like the idea of the Endless being the precursors, it fits very well. Also fits why the Lady Endless, was so against humanity, as the forerunners entrusted the Mantle to humans, after stealing it from the Precursors, so very naturally she would see it as URSURPED POWER AND WANT IT BACK. edit - would also love some games covering ancient humanity war with the forerunner and flood. I think that could make a damn good FPS and RTS.

In Outcasts the Precursors were seen to have been "guiding" other species which in turn frightened the Forerunners to the point where they'd send Guardians to lock down those planets. My guess is that the Endless were one of these species being influenced and guided by the Precursors, hence why they share similar dialogue lines and connections. This is also probably why the Forerunners were so scared of finding them, their discovery not only meant they knew what the Forerunners did to the Precursors, but that the Precursors have essentially taught a species to be so advanced they could survive the Forerunners' greatest weapon

Hey Installation 00 ive actually got my own theory with some of the flood. I remember during the outcast book (spoiler) that the precursors were planning to test Humanity for the mantle of responsibility, I do believe this new appearance of the flood will build up to that test where it is the Flood and then some, an evolved version of the flood, I mean if you look at tge Rusalka kit it's a combat form with what looks like Flood Chitin, not flood flesh & bone full blown chitin, there's even two infection forms in the poor guy, so basically I believe the flood is evolving now to use more chitin than flesh in order to challenge the UNSC & if the UNSC wins this coming flood war they would have earned tgeir right to the mantle.

@@nicolae-alexandruluca7853 the reason I say the flood has evolved is due to the Rusalka kit, that poor guy has two infection forms in him the poor guy, that's something we've never seen the flood do, and it didn't grow the normal fleshy bits, it grew Chitin in him, thats something completely new to the flood. Not to mention an evolved version of the flood with a yeah keymind or maybe the actual reincarnation of the Primordial leading this new age of the flood would be the greatest challenge humanity would face in order to aquire the Mantle of Responsibility.

So I was under the impression the multiplayer was continuing the story from the survivors of the Infinity's perspective? Also, I know people didn't love the books, but the Forerunner trilogy covered quite a bit of these mysteries... Librarians voyage to another galaxy (Andromeda I think it was) How 343 was an ancient human born on one of the Halo installations... There were 2 Diadacts, Bornstellar Diadact and the OG Diadact we saw on the terminal videos for Halo 4.. OG Diadact having communed with the Precursor before going crazy evil... And how humanity was intended to take on the mantle of Responsibility... Maybe I remember this wrong or Mandela Effect going on...but didn't the Precursors create the flood as punishment for wiping them out and for devolving humanity?

For future storylines, would be interested what is going to happen with the Banished, Forerunners, the Xalanyns and the NEW inhanced [from the Librarian] MC. Also...side story, since DATA is never completely erased...it would be interesting to know if any remnants of the [original] Cortana is still around. If so, who &/or what would benefit from using her vast amounts of human and alien knowledge?

It's seems likely the Endless were visited by whispers from the Precursors. Their story is the story of the Precursors and the lack of legitimacy to the Forerunners claim to the Mantle. It would be interesting if the Endless weren't a one-off villian and became a persistent part of the Halo Universe. I kind of hope they end up being immune to the Flood without being allies to the Flood. Halo is at its best when things are multifaction. That would add a dynamic where saving the Galaxy from the Flood could mean handing it over to the Endless.

Layers of mystery have been added and explained since the beginning. The forunners were mysterious at one point, and then the precursors were added into the mix. It’s always a shame since myth is often funner and cooler than cold hard lore.

Typically i prefer when a mystery is established, it's let to festoon in the tide pool of speculation for a few years, and then a hard answer is given. There's a kind of catharsis in finding out the answer, and especially if you were in the speculation game, and your pet theory was close to the truth, it feels WONDERFUL! Even when the real answer is disappointing, that in itself is a form of catharsis.

Revealing the Forerunner was a good move when they did it but the problem is they had no idea what to do after that and making the Banished Covenant 2.0 and framing the Endless as worse than the Flood was the absolute worst thing they could have done with those factions.

"There are things worse than the Flood" =/= "The Endless is worse than the Flood" The Primordial, and the record of what was done to him, is worse than the Flood. I find the main appeal of mystery is the exploration, mystery without exploration is pointless and so I welcome the release of more lore. So much the better if it's written in such a way that it welcomes new questions that can be answered later but a mystery unexplored, unanswered, perpetually vieled, ceases to be interesting; only so many questions can be asked and without unveiling new information those questions can only remain unanswered and then people lose interest. There are still plenty of places for Halo to go, plenty of rocks undisturbed for millennia, the endless expanse of space to explore full of known and unknown unknowns alike and I for one want to learn as much as possible about these unknowns, not just question their possibilities until I'm left with a wall, a void and nothing left to ask.

I understand the sentiment about leaving mystery...deep mystery in the overall halo narrative. But personally i have been waiting for pre precursor's to come back. If your thinking that revealing any mystery left in halo is a bad move I understand completely. But who's to say they are not going to add additional mystery or if the precursors and mendicant and offensive bias are a part of a main line halo game in the future that it wont be good or amazing. Obviously everyone has there opinion about more deep halo lore being added to a main line or spin off game but personally I would love to see chief and arbiter talking to a precursor. I would love to see interaction of mendicant and offensive bias with chief and arbiter. They can always add more to the mystery...Problem is will it be interesting enough going forward or will it fail to capture us in that way again. I think we are at a point in the franchise were we can benefit from opening these types of storylines in a mainline halo game. Imagine for a second a mainline halo game with everything we fans want in it, Campaign wise. We get chief we get arbiter we get halsey. we find out a precursor is trying to contact chief and need arbiters help to get to it. Along the way maybe we learn more about the ancient humans or even get to interact with one. Maybe they try to warn us about precursor secret intentions. Possibility of bringing ancient humans back and seeing them walk around in game would be amazing personally. During all of this the flood are in the game again along with some new enemy's and new character's. I think that would be pretty dam cool.

Whoever it was at 343 that decided to finish the main game franchise plotlines off screen and then begin halo infinite like that was not paying attention to their fanbase and what they were saying..Im a die hard fan played every game ocer and over ive read some books and comkcs ect and even I was pretty upset they did it that way... I prefer how star wars has handled comics and books, they create chaaracters unique to them and once they are well liked they introduce them into the mainline series that they launch, everytime a main char from a mainline series is in a comic they dont do anything all too important that would take away from or cause a lack of awareness regarding anything plot wise, it just rewards those who are more into it with the side stuff with greater depth. I really hope they keep up with it , not launching with forge and making people pay seperate for single player and also not having split screen really killed the launch , not to mention what ive covered regarding the plot.

I want Precursors, standing in front of the whole UNSC marines and spartans, transforms themselves into flood and growing stronger rapidly while Chief and Blue team are searching for Mendicant Bias or Offensive Bias but this tine OB will be the rouge AI. Mendicant,using some left over datas of Cortana from the Domain and the characteristics of The Weapon AI revives Cortana. I understand your concerns but I don’t particularly agree with this sentiment that if we go in the direction of exploring the precursors, then the mystery will completely disappear. Unsolved mysteries can get quite old imo. I prefer the bread crumb approach of satisfying our curiosity in a meaningful way while also keeping the mystery alive. I also think what’s going is that the precursors are pulling the strings and using species such as the endless as proxy to reach their goals without actually being physically involved. There are probably more than one species being used such as the extinct civilization on Netherop. Maybe these species, along with the flood (I don’t think the precursors are a monolith so the floods goals might conflict with other precursors), are part of this test for humans that the primordial was talking about. Maybe its survival of the fittest and the species on top become the inheritors of the mantle and the precursors guide them from the shadows.

I think we should take a look at more clues across the last few years. Disclaimer: I’m still taking Infinite’s multiplayer story seriously, 343 just said that they’re not supporting it with a big budget, not that it’s completely void. Take what you said about Outcasts and combine what we know about Infinite, Zeta Halo, and what just occurred aboard the Saturn. The Xalanyn (I think that’s how they’re pronounced) are the harbinger’s race, kept condemned for being immune to the Halo array and possibly the Flood. They obviously must have some connection to the Precursors. Take what we know about Zeta Halo being a place of extreme Flood experimentation and storage and combine that with the Xalanyn’s idea of the Endless. It’s not exactly their race, but rather an evolution of it. If we add that to our hints from Outcasts (that being the Precursors will eventually reform themselves) and the words of the Gravemind/Primordial aboard the Saturn… I think we’re seeing the evolution of them at the very least. My theory is that The Endless are a combo or joint force between the Xalanyn and the Flood, in attempt to reform themselves into what may have once been the Precursor. Who else would motivate them to take such a drastic move but the corrupted words of the Primordial/Gravemind, the last Precursor whose last known location was on Zeta Halo. I think we’re gearing up for a possible mobilization of the Flood given purpose.

This is one of the biggest dangers of a narrative being carried forward for an extended period of time. You can't keep telling the same stories, retreading the same ground, forever, else it grows stale and boring. Yet there is usually only so many places one can go within lore and storytelling before a mystery's allure starts to take over the importance of leaving it be, the hunger for information. To maintain allure while also preventing the stagnation of the story, you have to keep creating new pathways for exploration, and the longer that goes on, the harder it gets. These situations are so much like the Flood, in that if not given due care, all will be overtaken by the desire for discovery.

I don't think this will be as detrimental as you'd believe. I think truthfully Halo as a whole could use some new mystery infused into the story. Remember the Meddlers? I believe that's what they're called. I'd like to see what happens with that.

Granted I haven't read the books so this is maybe a misconstrued opinion but just based on the fact that the flood are basically the precursors why wouldn't they have known of or use the word sweetness as a trap?

While I do agree that this could be a colossal loss, I also believe there is potential for new growth within such narratives. Perhaps humanity's own ascension to a similar level, prominent figures within the precursors themselves, the mysteries surrounding them, and much more. My main concern isn't that the mystery will be revealed. It's that the mystery will disappoint all expectations. When the didact was revealed, it was, in my opinion, a let down, not because of him being revealed, but purely because of how the narrative used him. His presence, etc. He was supposed to be a major leader, yet he felt more like a senile fool. And the fight was terrible as well. His end was so lackluster. And his "true end" came from a book (which happens far too often in modern halo). I think that if they do it, they should do it right. They need literary and filmographic geniuses to perfect the craft. To perfect each appearance to one where it commands attention. Something imposing and awe inspiring.

There was too little time to handle it right, also the way he died in the book was worse then when we killed him by pressing a button. Honestly I don't know how they fucked up like this but it happened, in the lore I would mostly portray him as the absolute leader of the forerunners army and how he led them against the prometheans for thousands of years, eventually winning the war and then fighting the flood. Then obviously you fight him in halo 4 but fail to kill him, he makes no appearance in halo 5 but he does come back in infinite to lead the prometheans once more, maybe the xalanyn could have been kept and there would have been a struggle for power between didact prometheans and the harbingers xalanyn

1. Halo affects beings with a central nervous system the most, and definitely is only able to affect living creatures. 2. Slipstream space is/was used by the Precursors for a lot of things, including physical storage, data storage, and a whole lot more. The possibilities are currently unknowable.

*reads title* Well given they have no dedicated team for the campaign, AND have actively ignored questions regarding any campaign DLC... I assume we're not getting any for a few years. So all of us that bought the game to support said campaign content got library'd :D Honestly lost all hopes that we will get any and uninstalled. I'm simply not interested in PVP after the launch fiasco and wanted it for the chief's story...

Since completing the campaign in Infinite i kinda checked out of anything 343 has been doing. Didnt even realize they released 2 more books. I'll just say that I believe they'll do stupid shit with the lore/story to bring in more $$$$ for the f2p game, no other reason. I hate that I now look at Halo like that, but here we are, it was a fun 20yrs. 🤷

If you talked to a living god - how would he communicate his existence to you? Through "miracles", right? Through showing you things that cannot be physically real. Precursors, if ever introduced, should be introduced in a way which is not obvious, like a series of totally out of order and out of reason events and thoughts (e.g. causality loops, broken laws of physics and logic, broken symmetries of space and time, etc.).

As for you saying the flood "needs to happen". I fully disagree with you there. What 343 did in regards to the flood on the ark, reintroducing them back into lore completely and utterly destroyed the whole purpose and sacrefices made during Halo 3. The flood destroyed? Huzzah! - Erhm, no, they're still there. Atleast we destroyed the covenant? Right? - Eh... About that... Ever heard of the storm covenant? Not all was bad, And 343 did a few things excellently right... Until they didn't. The UNSC Infinity? Badass, incredible and powerful ship. Made to be Humanity's last bastion of hope after Earth falls and became a beacon of human strength in the universe. Basicly a space citadel with forerunner tech. And then became Humanity's last hope against at the end of Halo 5 after it managed to escape the attack on earth. Was once seen blasting through a Covenant Corvette during the spartan ops co-op campaign when it came out of slipspace, didn't break a sweat. Truely powerful and awesome. The Banished? Truely a force to be reckoned with thanks to strong leadership and brotherly yet dedicated spirit. Their ingenuity rivals that of Humanity, making them an excellent and ruthless threat. The Created? Well, making Cortana an villain wasn't a popular move for a lot of members in the community (I found it excellent as the writing was on the wall ever since H3). But it did correctly raise the stakes and showed humanity that their greatest tools could be turned against them in a second and forced them to adapt. Then came Halo Infinite and it showed how fractured and scared 343 became of their own established lore. The Infinity? Destroyed in the most stupidist of ways by the Banished. The Banished? Turned into a laughing stock after they conveniently removed the biggest threat, Atriox. The Created? ALT+F4 The infinity was destroyed because it was "too awesome". The Banished were 'too boring' and groomed to be replaced by the flying purple space monkeys or whatever the fuck their names are. The Created had to be destroyed in order to 'redeem' cortana in the eyes of the community. All three options were absolutely horrible. Reality? 343 had good ideas with Halo 4 and Halo 5, but the community destroyed all that ambition and good choices for generic, boring and tasteless developments culminated in the dogshit that was Halo infinite. In truth, I wish 343 would just cease to be and let Halo rest. It's suffered enough.

Everything relating to the forerunners needs to be put on the back burner. Bungie understood this. They were the foundational thread , and never really the main focus of the series. I understand that there is interesting lore people want to see, especially after the whole "reclaimer" saga. But there is a reason Melkor is in the Background of LOTR, The Emperor in 40k. The larger than life, vague cosmic powers get a lot of their weight from being exactly that, vague. Even the flood is a little too "explained", sometimes undermining some of the very clear Lovecraftian themes to them. One franchise that recently comes to mind is warcraft. A few years ago they released a series of short books basically explaining the entire cosmology away, and almost overnight everyone lost interest, because what was once the looming ever present force or narrative thread just became "Steve the alien and he's sad cause X"

Halo isn't going to last forever, and, maybe soon, they will run out of adequate mysteries, and I think we should be fine with that. It would be unreasonable to expect 343 to keep supplying us with new and intriguing mysteries at every turn. Eventually, they are going to have to close the book on this wonderful saga, and I would rather have no mysteries left when that happens, versus a million unanswered questions that will never be answered.

It would ruin more than the mystery. Halo used to just be Humans trying to survive and accidentally winning. All 343 ever seems to do is bring up enemies from the distant past with stupid levels of power. The Flood were beaten, the Precursors were beaten, the Forerunners were beaten. They have the Banished and Covenant Remnants, stick with those instead of bringing back species with godlike levels of power. Not every enemy has to threaten the entire galaxy, and I just know they'll find a way to make the Precursors an enemy.

I think people are overreacting to "revealing mysteries', Mysteries are only really good if the narrative connected to the Mystery is finished. If the story is complete then sure Mysteries are good for the story, but mainly on the side of theory crafting. Revaluations on mysteries don't ruin the lore it enriches the lore. For every answer we get, 5 more questions are created. The Forerunner saga may have gave us a proper look into Forerunner race but even more questions are left, or just created. A main question that circulated the community is the Forerunner and Precursor war, how did it end as it did? I agree that one would have to be careful with how they progress with the narrative of the Precursors returning but I don't think it will be a bad thing. Mysteries are good for theory crafting but sooner or later the answers would have show themselves, especially if the story is still progressing. This isn't a world where past events are gone and can never be recovered, the ghost of the past still walk the galaxy, and sooner or later they will be discovered. The precursors returning was a matter if 'if' but 'when', Point of Light, and more specifically Baston, wasn't an Easter egg, it was a warning. This will happen whether you want it to or not.

If I've told you once I've said it a thousand times, 343 doesn't care about bringing forth good and/mysterious narrative to the canonical halo universe. Proof being that that straight up backpedaled on multi-player being Canon, meaning the whole flood or precursor thing in multi-player is just a marketing ploy to play on fan nostalgia and emotional attachment in order to make more money.

A lot of the magic of playing Halo 1-3 was exploring these hulking sterile metal structures with weird symbols and holograms and wondering "what the hell was this place even for?". Justbimagining some ancient mysterious civilization walking those halls was a neat thought. Actually introducing the forerunners took the mystery away.

Personally, i really like the idea of the Precursors returning to the Halo universe. As you said, it can answer some questions about what the hell happened, HOWEVER, it does need to be handled correctly and i have zero faith in 343 right now. I hope they can rise far and above my very low expectations and deliver us some truly meaningful lore. I know what you mean about losing the mystery, but new myseries will emerge that will leave us all scratching our heads. Side note: 343 have got to get away from the idea of Halo being multiplayer first and get back to the idea that Halo is, and always will be, a huge universe that requires exploration. Halo multiplayer (in universe) was only ever intended to be Spartan training exercises. Get back to telling a good story and the training exercises will still be there regardless.

Im not too worried about it. The mp lore stuff is practically irrelevant, and the books havent felt like they've set them up as an immediate, physical return. Point of Light was to give the Forerunners and Spark a chance at atonement and a "second chance" in the distant future in a faraway galaxy. Outcasts felt more like the Precursors were guiding certain species, and personally I think that's what the Endless are and why they share so many similarities to Precursors/Flood, they were "guided" by the Precursors to avenge them and this feared the Forerunners greatly. We'll have to see but I dont think 343 plans on bringing them, they'll likely just continue to sow seeds with their connections to the Flood and other species which I'm totally cool with.

Literally even the name is a synonym and they have the exact same purpose in the plot. Not exactly, sure the names maybe but plot wise, the precursors mostly wanted humanity to handle the mantle but the forerunners were against it except a few religious believers like Faber librarian and the such their followers, didact on the other hand did not believe in that and therefore he caused humanities extinction.
