I may take our old halogen bulb and replace it myself as its wasteful to just throw the whole thing away if i can replace the bulb. A million thanks for this video. I had my oven's bulb replaced by a Pakistani. When it was done and turned it on, the sound resembles that of a helicopter. The fan was mistakenly placed. I was trying to search on google a copy of a cross-section a halogen oven, i found none until i saw this on youtube. I can see the proper placement of the fan when he disassemble it and fixed it myself, thereby saving me money to go to another repairman.

After seeing how difficult this bulb-change is (thanks +Ziks Fix for the heads-up, and curse the manufacturer!) I stopped dismantling at 6:35, snipped the wires close to the bulb, and fitted the new bulb using a new ceramic connector block in the lid cavity (don't forget to re-use the silicone cable sheath). Saves a lot of dismantling, because you don't need proper access to inside the lid.

D Singh Pic of block: www.alliedelec.com/search/productview.aspx?SKU=70212358 Use it to connect old wires (where you've cut the old bulb off) to the new bulb's wires.
@d.s.51578 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the pic Dave much appreciated! Does everyone call them 'connector blocks' ?
@DaveUnderbridge8 жыл бұрын
D Singh I thought everyone did, but perhaps I was wrong! :) "Terminal blocks" seems to be the official name, but I've never liked it because "terminal" sounds like the circuit terminates (ends) there! "Connector strips" (for the plastic cut-to-size type) or "conn blocks" seems to be quite common though.
@everydayPianoPractice10 жыл бұрын
When I got to the bulb removal, I just cut the two wires and then grabbed a new bulb before adding in the new one. This way I could reliably reinsert the leads into the correct location. Otherwise this was a good exercise for me to see how simple the process could be... I also enjoyed the "animated" conversation. Cheers!

Since there are cable ties up in that area, it can't be getting that hot in there, so I'd suggest getting a connector block and cutting the wires and joining the new bulb wires to the old wire. (it's all too easy to get lost as to which wires wrap to each other, as they'll get pulled from the weight of the bulb part) you'll also be set for when the bulb goes again in the future! And don't use a bloody pliers as a spanner!
@JonnyBlueChair5 жыл бұрын
My very first halogen oven was specifically designed to allow the bulb to be replaced. I therefore assumed they were all like that, so I was very disappointed to find that that's not the case. It's very poor that you have to throw the whole thing away just to replace the bulb. Very poor indeed.

@ziksfix8 жыл бұрын
+Pat Robins Having had to look for one myself not so long ago, they appear to use the standard sort used in conventional fan ovens, I couldn't find the exact one or one that would even be likely to work - also the price of the motors that I found were close to or more than the halogen oven as a whole. Might have some luck asking the manufacturer but I wouldn't expect them to be of much help =/

+Pat Robins It's great you're getting a replacement, would be greener if they took the old one and refurbished or recycled it instead of it going to a landfill. Modern electronics for you I suppose. nope you should not have to take the entire oven apart to replace the heating element,have had mine a good few years that came with a new replacement one in the box but have never needed to replace it,but mines ready for a new motor,seems a shame that you have got to take the entire machine apart to actually find the numbers on the motor to find the cost of repacement one cos no matter what searches you use you cannot find a motor that you know will fit yours and the ones that do show you might as well buy a new machine as the cost is to high ,also with some halogen ovens the heating element is not designed to be replaced

I have not read all the comments as there appeared a common thread to them, and I really wanedt to pass comment like fast fred or bob lovelittle. It is so simple to be destructive just like bob and fred but instead I wil try to be more contructive. The vid is really very poor as you do a lot out of view, so I sugest that you take it apart first time with camera OFFthat way you know what tools are needed and what goes where. Then you reassemble, setup the camera for the best view angle switch the camera on and proceed that way you do not bore the majority your viewers and piss them off to the degree that they pass the type of comments that you have received. I did learn a little not by what you actually did but by watching your bumbling stumbling misstakes, a bit like realising not to step in front of a moving vehicle by seeing the mess made by someone who stepped in front of a moving vehicle.

Do not buy one in the first place, it becomes very expensive if the little nut will not come off as mine will not. There is no way you can remove it one stuck. Fact is they are the worst design ever as changing the bulb is a regular thing, it should be more simple with the cable attaching to plugs on the end of the glass tube, simple when you have a brain. Mine is in the bin , shame as I did love cooking with it. I am just not prepared to spend £26 every few months just because the bulb blew.
