Someone else once said in a KZbin comment "RWBY may be Monty's masterpiece, but Haloid will be his legacy." I couldn't agree more. Monty inspired a whole generation of people, still inspires animators even though he's no longer with us, and will continue to do do fo r.c as long as we remember him and his work. His animations were like an art form rather than something cinematic. I hope to emulate his style while I grow as a 3D animator. His name will never be forgotten. Thank you Monty for inspiring us all.

I think it’s the other way around. RWBY is his legacy because it’s what he’ll be remembered for. Most people who know or remember Haloid don’t know or care about who created it. Hell, most people who have heard of Monty don’t even know about it. Haloid is much more niche; but it’s a masterpiece in the category of “early piece made by a hungry bright eyed young creator”. Similar to how Duel is a minor Spielberg work, but it’s a small masterpiece in its own way.

I can just remember it like it was yesterday, just finished halo 2, and was still waiting for halo 3 and the hype was all over my mind, then one of my friends tells me about this guy who did this video, with Master Chief and Samus Aran, just throwing it all at it and here I couldn't believe it until late one night I found the video and watched it. . I was in awe and grew this love for this man's work. Jump some years later, I meet him at one of the cons, the guy was a great, calming, really full of life and I couldn't believe how much his work has changed and how people just enjoy crazy fighting mashups like this. Though most of the series were written by other people, it was his idea, and he had already planned 9 seasons before he died. As for Red vs Blue... Hands down this is still one of the best animation sequences I have ever seen. Monty was/is a legend. I have no idea how he did what he did in his time. I wish he was here for so much more. He put things together so perfectly, "it's like a run on sentence that never gets old" Just better as time goes on.

I remember watching this with my buddies back in the unofficial Halo vs Metroid Prime days. We went nuts, loved it so much, and it was the talk of the school for a bit (we were like 12 back then). Looking back now, WOW, what an accomplishment this video was! Barely any of those animations were in halo, and zero suit Samus in 3D with any animations was non existent. Oum had to make all of them himself probably. What a tragic death, and at 33 too. :'( RIP man, and thanks for all of your other contributions!

I just read about this animator and his untimely death. All condolences go out to his family and friends... Also, as someone who has a BFA in 3D Animation, I wouldn't sell this short as his earlier "rough" work. This is an incredible amount of characters, choreography, keyframes, and top-notch timing, not to mention Oum pays homage to some of his favorite fight scenes from the Matrix. Just felt like offering a comment in support after reading some "Meh, THAT was his best work? Not so good..." when this is one of his earlier animations and by studio standards, would get him hired by any Pixar or Blue Sky. I've seen self-taught animators with videos that pale in comparison yet receive nothing but compliments (you'd think some suggestions for improvement would be in order!) but it seems many are spoiled by today's standards, and most still know nothing about what it actually takes to animate, so their critiques hardly carry any weight. That said, R.I.P., fellow animator.

Oh definitely, looks a lot like Nora's style when she is fighting Weiss in the food-hall. My first thought (after rewatching, since last time I watched it was years ago) I actually thought it was the basis of Agent Carolina fighting the 100-Tex army.
