Nah I don't think it would be Cortana, because she's a clone of Halsey who Chief and the SIIs considers a maternal figure. If it had to be somebody, it'd be Kelly 087, and my evidence is The Fall of Reach by Eric Nylund. Chapter nine, page 98, paragraph 4 Chief described Kelly's face as having "rough, angular beauty." According to Halopedia, the books are from Chief's POV so these are his thoughts, not the author's. And in all the books I've read (Fall of Reach, Ghosts of Onyx, Shadows of Reach, and First Strike) Chief doesn't describe anybody else in that manner. If he had a crush, it was on Kelly, but the mission always comes first for both.

THANK YOU for acknowledging Covie girl was a POW for THAT scene. I knew the show's writing was shit from the start, but that scene showed me that the writers might legitimately have brain damage. That whole scene was played off as being romantic, but that was a war crime through and through. It was especially stupid because they were operating under the assumption that she was an enemy agent, but they were treating her as a refugee. So, either Jimmy Rings sexually assaulted an enemy POW that was captive and couldn't offer consent, or he sexually assaulted a refugee who was detained-- someone which he was supposed to be guarding-- so she couldn't offer her consent. Either way they turned him into a rapist. Top-tier writing there. Also, they absolutely ruined Halsey as a character. In the show, she's clearly depicted as a self-serving villain that shows absolutely no remorse for what she did to the Spartans, and she continues to exploit them for her own ends. In the books, she admits that what she did is wrong, but she also claims that there was no other way. She truly believed that it had to happen to save mankind from itself, and so she judged that the ruination of the lives of 75 children was worth saving the lives of potentially billions of others. Was it wrong? Yes. Was it right to preserve mankind by sacrificing only a few children? Also yes. There's an argument to be made for both decisions, which is why it makes book Halsey a far more intriguing character than the show Halsey could ever be.

I know it has been 2 years since the TV show premierd, but I think I just realised something, about the infamous Chief and Makee plot point. While I 100% agree it is awful and clear character assassination for Chief, I belive its possible that Makee originates from very early extended lore from the classic halo era. In the novelisation of CE ("Halo: The Flood") there is a female ODST named Melissa McKay, She fights alongside the chief, and at one point she even sees John outside of his armor. In a FEW LINES in the book, there are VERY, VERY SUBTLE hints that the Chief might have been interested in her. As he is escaping from halo In the longsword, "He thought about sargent Melissa McKay. The womans calm green eyes. He never had the chance to get to know her better." I think what happend, is that the showrunners, read some of the books instead of looking at the games, and desperately looked for any traces of romance, this beeing the best they could lach on to. Turning McKay, into Makee.

The obsession with cortana is what helped kill halo, she should never have been anything more than just a piece of the narration to give us something to think about as we blast covenant and flood with various weapons, slowly revealing a bit of lore and being there to hack open every door that chief should logically not be able to pass by on his own. She was nothing more than a narrative tool to begin with and she should have stayed a narrative tool.

OK everything master chief described about the show is exactly how I reacted when I first saw season one and season two all the way. I swear I totally relate to master chief, right there. Yeah the people that made this didn’t do their homework on halo at all. I’m watching Mr. invincible now because at least they stick with some of the comic stuff I mean the games were based off the books from halo. so it’s like they didn’t even bother following the books either. we need one with the arbiter reacting to the show, I guarantee you he would have the same results in the very pissed off way. Considering the arbiter they had in this show was killed off at the end of season two
