Tim you are having a ball with that Mad Dog. ?Did you have to pay import duty on the purchase or was it below the import threshold. I’ve also watched the sloper option vid. Looks fab but if kit and I like the multiple collars for various bands. Plug and Play. How well does it tune in a single MAGMOUNT? Looks to be more robust than the Slidewinder Coil I'm currently using.

I am lucky that my Mondeo has plenty of metal so I get a good match on 40 and above on a single mag mount. All depends on the vehicle.

Hey Tim,great job!!! Wouldn't the mad dog work better with the 17ft whip instead of the 7ft one?? Do they say not to use the 17ft like m1ecc do?? 73

As the coil undertakes inductive loading, anything longer than a quarter-wave in terms of a whip on any band would be too long. The 7ft length allows 10m to tune well along with the lower bands. The 17ft option and this coil are really for operation at 30m and below, if the whip is extended to the full 17ft. 73 mate.

You just answered so many questions I had. I have the Mad Dog 40 and a 17ft whip and could not tune it with the whip fully extended. I lowered the whip to 8ft and have 2 collars and now get 20m and 40m with an SWR of 1.08 - 1.2 on 20m and 1.15 -1.37 on 40M. Everyone keeps telling me it should be fully extended and I couldn’t explain why this was better (new Ham here). So thanks for the detailed explanation. Now I need another collar for 10M!
