Tim, just wanted to say that I enjoyed the video. Like you, I too have the FT-891 which I think is a great radio. Also, I'm a big fan of using Hamsticks although I've yet to try 10 meters but will more than likely add one. While I don't do POTA or any other activations, I do like the idea of being portable and work contacts from the shack and backyard using 20 meter Hamsticks configured in a dipole setup. Any way, keep up the good work as I look forward to watching your informative videos.

Magic Tim. 10m is a band for all, not just the big guns. Your clear take off will help no end. Eventually I want to make an A/B comparison between the tank whip and the Moxon. Max Mountain World did this and the difference was incredible(multiple s points), not what the modeling suggests. 12m is also a great band and made some great west coast contacts at greyline.

How does the slidewinder perform on 10m tim
@timg5tm9412 жыл бұрын
It does well but for good swr you’ll need a whip that’s less than a 1/4 wave long as the coil provides extra loading. That said, with the coil and 9ft tank whip I had a 2.0:1 swr which wasn’t the end of the world, a tuner at the radio will stop the radio folding back any power and the 11% reflected power at 2:1 isn’t a huge issue. 73
@T.M.G20142 жыл бұрын
@Tim G5TM so something like a 6ft fire stick or 9ft tank whip direct without coil on a external atu
@timg5tm9412 жыл бұрын
@@T.M.G2014 a 6ft whip with the Slidewinder would be fine on 10m. And would be fine 10-20m. It would also probably work on 40 but the longer the whip, the better the efficiency down on 40.

@@_0815_ On 160 mtrs the bandwidth is ofcourse very narrow and they are fine for ssb.Also the grounding to the car is VERY important and I have used several braiding straps. There are plenty of good tutorials on KZbin related to this subject. 73

@@ianharling9569 I got a round steel plate with a lot of screws around in a circle, where I can connect radials. Comparable to the lower plate of the DX Commander but larger in diameter and without a hole in the middle. I used to put my mag mount without the rubber and the foil on it. On 6m and 10m it worked great with the long element of a buddipole and a 3/8 to PL adapter as a vertical. Should also work with the ham sticks... I hope.
