20:45 actually gon did not lose arm cause he let his guard down. before they started fighting (wasnt much of a fight though) pitou tries to do same thing from his back and gon easily dodge it, that was not because he was on guard or expecting it, at that point his mind was already lost and all he was thinking about was revenge so him dodging pitous surprise attack has nothing to do with expecting it or waiting for it. he felt the murderous intent and simply reacted to it. that being said when he killed pitou and puppetry took effect pitou was dead and emotionless like a real puppet so there was no murderous intent for gon to feel and react to. anime even manages to emphasize this by showcasing how there is no sound of anything in that whole scene and only thing you can hear is sound of killua's footsteps as he rushes... which is another thing i see people miss when watching anime as up to that point it was a major point in killua character that noone ever heard the sound of his steps because of how skilled assassin he is. anime emphasized how there is nothing coming from pitout to give away that attack by giving sound to something never heard before emphasizing how much in comparison there was nothing to hear from pitout. it was also beautiful moment for killua as in that moment he gave up his own nature, went against principle he followed his whole life (making sure to watch his steps and his footing so nobody can hear his steps) abandonding his own safety in hopes to get to gon in time. went on a tangent about killua cause i am passionate about this but yeah my point is gon did not lose arm cause he left his guard down :D
