The political leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, has been killed in Iran.
That’s according to statements from Hamas and Iran’s revolutionary guard.
Iran's state TV is also reporting he has been 'assassinated' in Tehran.
According to Iran's revolutionary guard, Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed in a strike on the building in Tehran where they were staying.
He was in the Iranian capital meeting President Masoud Pezeshkian ahead of his inauguration.
These are the latest pictures of that meeting in Tehran on Tuesday. He then attended Pezeshkian's swearing in ceremony.
Iran says it's investigating the killing of Ismail Haniyeh.
Al Jazeera’s Julide Ayger takes a look back at Ismail Haniyeh's life, and the events which shaped him into one of the most prominent Palestinian political figures.
A Hamas statement said Haniyeh was killed in a “treacherous Zionist raid” on his residence in the Iranian capital Tehran. The Israeli government is yet to issue an official statement on the attack.
Al Jazeera correspondent, Imran Khan, is at the studio for more about this.

He was probably killed by a drone strike , this is not the first time Iranian civilians or leaders or generals have been killed due to an airstrike in the country , but all sides must agree to a cease-fire and all sides must work with the UN to impose a lasting peace in the region I still think good relations between Iran and the USA would be a good thing , any deal that helps improve US-Iran relations is a win/win I would like to see the US embassy opened in Iran , I think good relations with the US is important for he region and for the Islamic world according to Iran media , the airport is closed and no one is leaving , not even the foreign guests and foreign delegates , everyone is under house arrest until they get more info , no details have been released but it was probably a drone strike , the government is about to impose martial law All Iran nuclear sites are safe and the nuclear sites are closed until future notice due to the possibly of a drone strike which means that the IAEA will have no access to these sites in the meantime , they will remain closed until safety measures are put into place , this is for the safety of the IAEA staff , there will be no more inspections , Russian staff at the nuclear sties will be sent back home , all embassies will be closed off due to martial law I don't want to take sides here , I don't support any side , I hope everyone gets along but all sides need to agree to a cease-fire and agree to a viable peace

The way Aljazeera narrates about the martyrdom is not worthy of its stature. Especially the brief narration about the Martyr Ismail Haniyeh is not as it expresses. While observing it looks as if Aljazeera was looking for this to happen. And on the soil of Iran, the martyrdom of a great Leader loved by millions around the world, only raised anger and concerns about Iran's caring of the Leaders of the world. It spoke volume about Iran's intelligence failure and raise doubts over Iran really want this to happen. May Allah forgive the sins of the Leader Haniyeh and award the highest place in the Paradise. May Allah make Palestine taste its freedom and may Allah free Masjid al-Aqsa from the hands of the zionists and make it filled with Muslim worshippers throughout the world.

Countries don’t have permanent allies or enemies, they only have permanent interest. Iran and Israel don’t share borders, Iran has no threat from Israel, and like wise Israel has no existential threat from Iran. They both can be a menace for each other but that too can be easily avoidable. I think the regime in Iran will one day form be mates with Israel.

Sooner or later a head of government may be afraid to go to Iran. Because Iran cannot provide security for a major leader inside Iran. What will happen to the common people? Is their security system or intelligence department so weak?

Most likely F-35. It has stealth capabilities and is able to evade anti-air missile systems.

@@Kalimdor199Menegroth Possible. Still that's a long way for a F35 to fly in, strike and depart all unchallenged. I'm not certain of F35 tech and current gen of AA defence but older jets could get picked up when they open the bomb bay doors to release munitions. Bombs, missiles are not stealth as well so all of these should have got picked up. Truly an embarrassment for Iran and enough reason to escalate the conflict to the next level. Bibi doing all to continue and escalate. Testing times

@@RollerGuideX Most modern anti-aircraft missiles and alarm systems cannot detect F-35 due to its stealth capabilities. Both the US and Israel have struck targets deep into enemy territory without triggering the air defense systems. They are saying that a guided missile struck Haniyeh's apartment. Had that been launched from Israel, it would've been detected until it reached its target. So most likely it was launched from a close location which maximized its precision. This is not the first time when Iran's air defense system and security apparatus is caught off-guard. It happened in the past with other targets being assassinated by Israel. When Mossad does its job, it does it in a flawless manner. Ironically, had Haniyeh been in the Gazan tunnels like Sinwar and Deif, he might've remained alive.
